Vampire Eviscerate...

Is it just me....or does the new vamp spammable feel horribly clunky to use in combination with trying to weave in staff light attacks...?

not sure if its just the animation but it doesn't feel smooth to me at all.

Thoughts?

Perhaps I'm just too much of a casual to see it, but I'm not even sure what this skill is supposed to be used for in the absence of a magicka based melee weapon.

If you're using a staff using magicka character, probably wearing mostly light armor, why would you get close enough to anything to use this skill? :s

It uses the same animation as Searing Strike from the Ardent Flame skill line Dragonknights have. That ability is a single target DoT ability and was not meant to be spammed over and over again, although you still could. A few people on these forums have said the animation feels clunky and that's probably due to its animation length more than anything. I don't really know for certain.

You've probably never played a magDK before, or you have and are making a good point about Eviscerate itself. What makes a close range magic build possible is having all your melee attacks have some form of healing, and a form of snare or other kind of crowd control. Like for example on Dragonknights Searing Strike has the Burning Embers morph that heals you for a large amount of the damage done, and Flame Lash when targeting a immobilized or off balance foe can heal you for over 14k health in 2 seconds. Also all Ardent Flame abilities snare your foe for 30% for 3 seconds.

Eviscerate lacks these two qualities and promotes actually getting hurt amazingly. The more damage you take the stronger Eviscerate and its morphs become, but good luck getting that damage in when the ability lacks a way to keep your target still.

Im demoing out the vampire magblade build that alcast has doing, and I have to literally be INSIDE of the enemy to use blood for blood, but im getting better at it. It says it has a 5 meter range, but that sounds like a lie because thats 15 feet, and I have to be closer to an enemy than my character is tall to use it. Realistically, if you're more than 3 in game feet away from the enemy..it becomes a nightmare to use. On my magblade, blood for blood is used in place of swallow soul.

There are actually a lot of fights that (regardless if you're ranged or melee) you are expected to be in melee range. There are very few mechanics in this game that are harder to avoid the closer you are to the enemy.

Although it looks strange, striking someone with a staff, and if you're a Light Armour user and get caught in a powerful AoE, you could easily get in trouble.

Take vSS, for instance. Everyone in vSS practically stacks in the dragons mouth. Leaving your melee distance stack, even as a ranged character, is how you get deadified.

This right here. That this wasn't considered is a real bummer. But not a surprise.

That holds true for medium armor users too and they're just as likely to happen at range as they are in melee.

Except medium armor was literally made to be in melee range.

as a mag nightblade i blame light attack weaving. i dont know the answer but i suspect it has something to do with the effort to prevent/reduce animation canceling by adding millisecond delays in our weaving. i could rant..

Actually, since initially posting here I have been having some fun with Blood for Blood on a no staff melee MagSorc.

Now of course I'm still a dirty casual and not claiming that this is viable for endgame, but a high crit rate combined with Surge mostly mitigates the health loss while freeing up magicka that would otherwise be used spamming Force Pulse for other things. So maybe it's not completely useless after all.

Still think we need a melee magicka weapon line though ... B)
