Is LOL always a bad response to a post?

I can't quite make up my mind what the LOL option on a post is meant to mean.

I assume that as the other options are positive (awesome, insightful, agree) that LOL is meant to indicate people are unimpressed with the post ?

Would I be right in this assumption or can I carry on believing that all my posts are just so full of humour that that is what people mean ?

Maybe "disagree" or something similar would be a better choice ?
Yeah, I got a PC. I just don't feel the need to post it's specifications for an ego boost.

I take it to mean two things. One of the obvious ones is that it means unimpressed. The other that the poster finds the post humorous.

And, it being the internet, good luck figuring out which one it is.

Most of the time, I've looked at it as "this post was funny," but I've seen a few posts, where someone was clearly using it to indicate, "you dumb f---.".

While it may be intended as a more "positive" usage, I freely admit to occasionally using it on people who post something so bad I question their ability to change their own underwear in the morning.

Yea, I have seen a lot of LoL's for bad posts. Which really sucks for me as generally I try to be fun in my posts and receive more LoL's than anything really.

I generally use LOLs for posts that are funny, if I disagree I post, saying why.
Other people do it differently, but I use Laugh Out Loud for Humour.

Mind you sometimes finding that someone thinks you're funny, when you are being serious, can be offputting too (I had that happen a bit on SWTOR forums).

This "LOL" flag is as pointless as is the whole LOL phrase now. Firstly, as everyone knows it was Laughing Out Loud, but then some moron called other guy a "lol" and then lemmings started copying it - and that is absolutely misguided usage of it.
    - Also using "lol" as a negative comment is pointless, as it does not carry any message of agree/disagree value on it's own. Even "lol noob" is more informative.
It was also used in smaller instances as Lots of Love. This meaning died and it's nonexistant at the moment.

Why remove downranking a comment and replace it with this "lol" nonsense. They would need to split it to "Funny/Entertaining" and "Ridiculous".

But then, today's modus operandi is to make everyone safe, happy and "accepted" even cheaters, botters, morons, trolls. That's why we had "disagree" removed.
  • GambitJ79b14_ESO
Being as "LOL" is an indicator of laughter, I would take it as that. If someone thought you were just as dumb as *** but made them laugh, they still laughed. Like wise if you said something clever and humorous. It doesn't matter to me if people think my comments are dumb - but I know people are different. The hard part for me is when people laugh as a coping mechanism...

When someone tells a joke, LOL is a good response, but when someone is being serious then LOL is essentially "Oh, you poor dummy, go away.".

Also, no disagrees, it's offensive and can hurt someone, just like jokes, arguments, debates, smalltalk, user names and many other things. *sigh*

On the other hand, I'd say it's best to have no buttons like this, makes people express their opinions a bit, rather than "+1, BRO!" and "No." which is usually even less usefull than silence, unless it's a vote on something.

Perhaps the buttons should reflect your main character's skills in the game, and posts should have "health".

You can heal those who have been flamed, dragon leap trolls, and use soul trap on high level plonkers.

If a post's health reaches zero, the post is dead and deleted, and everyone who joined in the attack gets some experience and loot, which is attributed to & mailed to your main character in-game.

Sorry, i was staring out the window just watching the waves...:p
