You can get a lot of transmute crystals by doing battlegrounds. I think the cost is high on purpose.

Iv found this to be the most rewarding. Get 100k AP on each of your characters, and you will have 50 Crystals on each character. On top of doing a Daily battle ground, and opening rewards of the worthy.

Yes. Crystals are very easy to farm. However it is PvP that provides the lion's share.

I dare say it's one of the few things that PvP gives at a usable pace, that PvE doesn't.

I doubt Zos would be willing to permit us to change traits with a cost of only gold. They would have done that from the start and it would essentially make their intents null and void. Adding it to the crown store would be a little problematic.

If you are wanting to test builds use the PTS. That is what many serious theorycrafters do.

It's kind of awful that jewelry only drops in one trait per set, so there's no way to get other traits other than with transmutation. It would make a lot of sense for the occasional Triune set jewelry to drop in PvP content or Bloodthirsty to drop from Trials. Triune PvP jewels would probably sell really well on guild traders, too.

Meanwhile, some of us are barely ever able to transmute anything ever because all of the sources of transmute crystals are locked behind group content of some sort. Hi, by the way.

If you're on PC, @jirkasl, use the PTS server to test builds.

Transmute stones are free on the PTS server.

Last time I checked ESO is in the MMO genre ... where group play is encouraged and rewarded.

    giphy.gif

This is so wrong in many ways ... first ... transmute stones ARE NOT locked behind grp content, that's just BS.
Okay, depends on what you would call GROUP CONTENT in a MMORPG. (google for the mmo part)
The gear (which you want to transmute) is way more "locked" behind content ;).

Well, now for same tasty calculations, maybe helpful:
    • Cyrodiil Reward for T1 -> 50 per Month (and char) = 1,66 geodes per day and char.
    • Pledges (let's calculate vet hm non dlc and norm dlc) -> ~ 5-7 geodes per day and char (not fixed amount per box, therefore AVG)
    • Reward of the Worthy (PVP) -> 4-20? per day and ACCOUNT!
    • Trials -> 5 per week (char)
    • Arena (vet)-> 4 per run
    • random daily -> 1? if I am not wrong

So, what can we see from this. Cyrodiil and the reward of the worthy are easily and quickly done. You will most likely not spend 1hour for the T1 alliance war reward -> which grants 50 stones per HOUR (or less) but only 1time per month.
Still, nice profit for invested time.

Reward of the Worthy will be in inbox, if you get some alliance points (every 20k ap), and first one (20h cooldown?) will give 4-20 stones per acc/day. Also awesome ratio.

If you have little/less time or even if you want to maximize your transmutes gain, pvp is the way to go per month/day.
If you have enough time to play, pledges and arena (like vmsa) are still very nice. For example vmsa run in ~45min is still ~5 stones per hour, same as pledges but you won't need a grp, can't get bad luck with queue and such stuff. And there is no limit. It's also solo content ;) therefore the gif above.
But let's be real, if you want to maximize your gear with bloodthirsty or infused, you should be already able to run vet maelstrom, if not ... wrong order to improve (if you ask me).

*flashback of way too many vet maelstrom runs....*

If you don't ever do any of the content that drops crystals, what do you really need to transmute? The only thing I can think of is swift trait jewelry for faster farming.

If we're going to pull out the "but you don't need to" line, let's point out that nobody "needs" to transmute anything, for any reason. But let's just not and respect that players have many reasons for wanting to use the system and that they don't need to justify this to anyone other than themselves.

Agreed. I have friends who hate group content. They don't complain about not being able to transmute. If they REALLY need it? They always ask me if I can help them go through Cyrodiil for the end of the campaign rewards.

Fair point. While some of us actually do need to go for the gold when gearing up for trial score runs or challenging PvP fights, those that choose other activities may be just as interested in having specific gear and traits (though some gear will be off-limits to them by design.

However, Zos has said if you want to transmute your gear there are specific activities we will have to endure. Those activities happen to be the more challenging content such as PvP, trials, pledges, and arenas along with the final boss in dungeons having a chance to offer a small reward.

It would seem that it is Zos' intent to encourage players to participate in those activities which is likely where VaranisArano was coming from.

    Sure. But I was curious.

Thing is, if you aren't doing group content, the only gear you'll have to transmute is jewelry, and for most purposes, there's a good crafted set you could buy/craft with that jewelry trait. The only exception I could think of was swift trait on the speed farming sets, since there's not a real crafted equivalent. Maybe I'm missing something?

I go to Cyrodil if I want transmute crystals and I hate PvP. It's the easiest way to get them. Type lfg in zone and usually get 25k AP in less than an hour.

Easy. The best way it earning enough AP to get to the tier 1 reward for a monthly campaign. It does not take long and that is 25 crystals per character per month. While doing that Rewards for the Worthy will come into the mail. Open one per day and that will offer a random amount of crystals.

It is the easiest way to earn crystals. Repair some keeps. Get into a Zerg for a short while.

Actually, the transmutation system is designed to reduce grinding. Beforehand we had to grind for gear until we got not only the right piece but the correct trait.

That meant when running vMA was 8 times more likely to not drop what you wanted than it is now. So yes, the transmutation system is great as designed is a significant improvement.

You should have grinded for a vMA weapon in the perfect trait before transmutation came about. People did 100 and 200 runs without seeing the weapon they wanted. That is 1k to 2k hours spent in the same instance. At a certain point well before 100 runs it gets boring.

Even if it's an improvement, doesn't change that it still falls short of expectations and is still yet another grind. It's also used to justify swapping the meta around so often.

"Oh you can just transmute X now" blah, blah, blah. It's the same grind, different method.

    It's even RNG-based as well.

The meta changed every quarter before they added it.

The fact is, with the transmutation system the grind to get gear in the desired trait is significantly easier. Think it is to much of a grind then grind for gear the way we did before Zos made it easier. The only issue I have is the artificial cap Zos placed on how many crystals we can hord.
