Anyone interested may find the following two threads of interest (though the 2nd is somewhat hijacked by pedants in the comments, its the poll result that matter).
How many character slots do players have on average? Here is an answer:

Question - how many of you 18 character folks have max CP? I ask because it often seems like altaholics rarely get very far in the actual game. It’s common to read things on here like “I have 18 characters between both servers and have been playing since launch. I’m at 125 CP.”
Anyway, if you’re at max CP then ignore this but if not, may I suggest actually playing the game before you make another 20 characters?
Fact that this hasn't been done yet is quite mindblowing. It only earns ZoS more money in the end.
They could just keep the train going with you spending crowns for a slot.
Tho maybe there are some system difficulties/limits.
Also, 18 characters fully geared etc? damn you've been busy.THEDKEXPERIENCE wrote: »Meanwhile I’m almost done leveling my 4th character in like 6 years and even that feels excessive.

810 cp is about half a year give or take of doing your daily bg's/dungeons (If you use your xp scrolls from login rewards on it helps alot aswell), the game has existed for what 6 years now? so it's not that insane to have lots of characters and be at the cp cap.
And leveling to 50 on a character takes like 24 hours at most if doing it the fast ways. (Not including the yearly xp events, which makes it even faster)
I'ts a matter of individuality and points of view.
Some of us are more creative and they exploit ESO high cutomisable talent system and charaacter creation to have some fun.
For this and other reasons, it has no sense to debate about the "reasonable" amount of characters and we already uncovered the reasons why a 2nd account would not be a viable option as we explained how not providing more slots eventually translates in a loss for ZOS itself.
It's not a matter of "begging" it's all about making everyone perceive the inadequate current state of things so that something is done.
Apologies if my language was not clear. I have absolutely nothing against altoholics, I'm genuinely amazed by the amount of dedication some of these players including you have. That being said, I tend to disagree with adding more slots. I would guess that having more character data means it needs to be stored somewhere somehow. I don't know the technical details at all, but I would also guess that if having even more characters had no impact on game and server performance, they would add the option to have over 18. A new account possibly creates anywhere from 1-18 new characters, but adding the option for one more slot possibly generates thousands of new characters on thousands of accounts. I'd be interested to see how many characters the average account has, and even more interested in how many active characters the average account has. I won't lie, I have 8 characters created, but I play on one character all the time and the rest are effectively mules. Looking at my friend list, I also tend to see mostly the same character names, it's rare to see an account that constantly changes between more than 4-5 characters.
This thread probably leans towards those with more alts, but the state of things being inadequate seems to be a stretch for me. Judging by my previous MMO experience, 18 is already a high number of characters you can have on one account. Yes, there are probably MMOs with more character slots, you can always find a counterexample.
As much as it sounds upsetting, I think that on a macro level, altoholics who actively play all characters represent a minority. Having the option for a 19th or 20th character slot is probably not a problem of money, but rather resources and load on the game.

My thoughts on game load. Everyone can access 18 character slots. Not everyone does. The game is built with the load capacity for everyone to max out 18 character slots. Again, they don't. So, there is a lot of unused character slots/load available that could translate into more character slots being available for those who want them. I'd pay. I'd buy from other people too, but I think that would be pretty complicated to allow/apply.
really, more character slots. I dont want this. It would mean I need to buy them and progress them from new.
with 2 accounts and 36 characters, for me I have enough.
If I really want to expand I could create accounts on EU and have up another 36 characters but maybe that would cause my head to explode so I am not going there

You don't have to buy them, just because they are there. Seems a rather silly reason not to let other people buy more slots that DO want them.

Is there a database impact with more chactachter slots? I’ve seen that mentioned on similar threads although I understand ZOS is removing old, unused chactachters/accounts plus they have encouraged us to create new chactachters for Gremreymoor.

The question does not make much sense to me. All your characters share the same CP. As soon as any of your characters hits CP 810, all are maximum CP, even freshly created ones at level 1.
That said, I have 16 on my main account and main server (PC EU), and I am at CP900+ there. I only have one below level 50, and that is a new character created to go through the Greymoor tutorial.

I think the question could be rephrased to say "How many players that have 18 characters also have max CP" because the assumption is that someone who plays lots of characters isn't investing a lot of time into any of them.

It is pointless to ask regardless: it is not for anyone here to decide what's enough since it is purely personal.
