The update to console had been delayed for some arbitrary reason about a funeral that has nothing to do with ESO and for those who wanted to attend it - well they could have simply “not played” - so I don’t actually buy it’s for that reason at all, more likely to emergency Retrofit all the patches in as mentioned on the pinned post on this very forum.

The decision does not seem to be arbitrary at all. It seems to be a conscious choice of Zos to make a solid statement of support for social issues at the forefront of the USA community. That is more than my opinion as Zos seemed pretty clear about this with their statement that #BlackLivesMatter. That said this was more than about a funeral.

BTW, they have to pass patches through the consoles before they can be released except in the situations of emergency patches. So if there was an emergency update to the chapter they would have been able to bypass the red tape.

That’s not true Sony and Xbox made changes a year and a half to two years ago allowing companies to do same day patches there’s no longer a time period of days for patch certification. Played Smite for the last 4 years and they adjusted their console patches after they made those certification changes so they could release patches for all platforms the day of and have cross platform play. And yea delaying the patch because of his death is silly tbh. Raise money for the cause do something but just delaying a patch for his memory is just signaling of the highest order.

Honestly. Im sure it has nothing to do with how big this has blown up in the media. There are so many worse things happening all over the world and no one ever gives a ***. Til it blows up in the media and people can say look how much i care. I dont buy it and never will.

And on top of that companies, especially game devs, as a whole, should keep themselves out of *** like this. Post what you want about your companies stance on a situation but dont drag your consumers into it. Delaying an update for any reason not to do with the game itself is dragging your consumers into it.

Think about how tone-deaf and crass it would be for ZOS to be tweeting/ive streaming/etc, basically celebrating the launch on twitter/twitch/fb, interspersed with people in mourning for George Floyd.

Today is an extremely emotionally charged day for a lot of people- black people in the US have been systematically mistreated and murdered, and police are not being held accountable for their mistreatment of citizens. George Floyd's funeral is representative of all that- it's not just about a single person. It wouldn't be appropriate for ZOS to be actively celebrating on a day that so many are in mourning.

When has Zos released a chapter via disk? Seems that the COVID related delay of the chapter is irrelevant to Zos not releasing chapter or even DLCs via disk. As such, I fail to see how the delay has had any impact on your situation.

Further, the COVID related delay was announced over a month ago giving anyone plenty of time to adjust their schedules if needed. A great number of software releases were delayed due to the impact COVID has had on the industry and the world. Zos did not cause the issue. They merely responded to the issue as best as could be like pretty much all of us have and currently still are.

    Yes, it is life interrupted.

    Never mind, wrong thread

Now with that last part you arent seriously saying that this is a political thing are you? That ZoS hasnt mentioned 1 thing about it being a bigger issue, or political in any way ..that they have somehow have another agenda other than a single funeral for 1 single man in millions who have died or probably thousands that have a funeral but just that 1 criminal is more important than lets say a military vet who died for his country and has a funeral that day?

Im curious What respect exactly is it that you think a delay shows?

The same kind as holding the door open for the person behind you instead of slamming it in their face. Or cleaning the mud off your shoes before entering someone's home. Or as I mentioned earlier, yielding to a funeral procession instead of trying to force your way though the middle of it.

In short, it's the kind that says you're not a complete ***. It says you're just another person who understands that they are going though an emotional time right now so you're going to let them have a day to work that out. You're not going to inject yourself into it either by trying to sell them something or by running up and crying all over the casket pretending to be personally involved with whoever is inside.

That's all it takes to show respect to someone. Respect doesn't mean you have to kneel before them and sing their praises as if we were all sent back to the dark ages and you were in the presence of a king. It can be as simple as accepting a minor inconvenience for the sake of someone else.

So, PC can't preload a chapter expansion either? Huh, so it's equally lame across all platforms.

I think ZOS should seriously rethink that. So many games that have pre-purchase also have preloading, for the CONVENIENCE OF THE CUSTOMER. Since internet service speed varies so much, place to place, I personally think companies that allow a preload to customers that have already turned over their money, just makes good sense. Having it unlock at actual release time, and being able to actually play then, instead of just beginning a lengthy download (for some) should be universal practice for digital purchase, IMO.

    @Bekkael

While I know some games have it designed so that a patch can be downloaded ahead of time, a lot of major MMORPGs do not. It does not seem to be that big of a deal to the masses and as I stated, updates are loaded on my PC and ready to go by the time I get home. Even when I have been home on patch day my game is ready to go when the servers go live again

If consoles do not let you set up your machine to download the update as soon as it is available then it seems it is the consoles that are lame and not so much interested in the convenience of their customers. They seem to be where the real problem is.

Well that's just a matter of scale. A company delaying it's product for each and every funeral that occurs on the same day no matter how small would be absurd. And not just because the product would never be released under such conditions. But a funeral that has for whatever reason captured national attention and caused heartache for a significant chunk of the population? Whatever you think of the person or the circumstances of his death, I don't think it's unreasonable for a company to let them have a day to mourn instead of trying to celebrate the launch of whatever their product is.

    Bungie did.
We're not dancing on Floyd's grave by playing this content which was planned for today months ago.

Yes, Xbox does allow preloading if the game company does. I used to preload BioWare games that then unlocked for play at the designated times. However, that was always for a singleplayer RPG, which I assume is the difference. ESO is the first (and hopefully last) MMO I've played/will play. Well....Destiny too, I guess, but after 2 months I couldn't stand the lack of story anymore.

So many restrictions and inconveniences makes me dislike MMOs all the more, but that's just my bitter, singleplayer-loving soul talking. I'm sure I'm in the minority there.

And that probably says it all, that MMORPGs are not your cup of tea. They tend to work on patches up to the last minute. Heck, PTS is still active the week before this goes live with changes made from PTS to Live. A stark difference from the single-player genre but then again a single-player game has other limitations that are much greater than when they can be downloaded.

On the one hand I 100% agree and support ZOS decision to delay the release one day out of respect for George Floyd's memorial services. I think that shows respect and integrity on their part.

On the other hand, I don't see why they couldn't release the content to download on the date planned, and just unlock it to play on the 10th.

They do download game when available, problem is Greymoor is still unavailable for purchase on the PS store and Tuesdays are the day Sony updates the store. I can't even buy an unlock code on Amazon yet either. Probably will have to wait until update loads and buy in game, who knows.

Edit - Sony updates as late as 7:00 PM EST so still time.

Thank you for the dictionary description of the word respect. We all knew that - But
On that logic you’ve produced , all Tv should stop broadcasting, all radio too? Should websites be turned off out of respect?
Should we stop filling our cars at petrol stations?

Where do you draw the line?

I repeat , there is NO logical Reason or link between this delay decision and the funeral.

It’s a decision made with sentiment and I’m sure with heart and the best intention - but it’s ultimately pointless

There are better ways ZOS could have shown their support here. They’ve missed a trick TBH - but delaying a software release is nonsensical

What I can't figure out is can I buy this on PSN or not? I'm hearing that it's purchasable but not released until tomorrow. For a company that's already struggling to communicate, they didn't need to complicate this any further. A game release has nothing to do with police brutality.

Am I the only one that's just plain tired of politics being injected into absolutely everything? Are we not allowed to have an escape? Isn't that what entertainment is supposed to be? I've been watching weeks worth of riots, destruction, and people being killed now I have to come here and be reminded of that.

That depends. Do you mean all reference to politics no matter the context? That's actually part of the problem that has caused us to become so divided. Lack of discussion means lack of understanding and an inability to find any common ground, leaving everyone in a place where they believe that those who disagree are nothing but horrible monsters who must be shunned.

There are other ways, however, that politics are getting injected into things that is absolutely sickening. But I'll leave it at that for now.
