The update to console had been delayed for some arbitrary reason about a funeral that has nothing to do with ESO and for those who wanted to attend it - well they could have simply “not played” - so I don’t actually buy it’s for that reason at all, more likely to emergency Retrofit all the patches in as mentioned on the pinned post on this very forum.
The decision does not seem to be arbitrary at all. It seems to be a conscious choice of Zos to make a solid statement of support for social issues at the forefront of the USA community. That is more than my opinion as Zos seemed pretty clear about this with their statement that #BlackLivesMatter. That said this was more than about a funeral.
BTW, they have to pass patches through the consoles before they can be released except in the situations of emergency patches. So if there was an emergency update to the chapter they would have been able to bypass the red tape.
That’s not true Sony and Xbox made changes a year and a half to two years ago allowing companies to do same day patches there’s no longer a time period of days for patch certification. Played Smite for the last 4 years and they adjusted their console patches after they made those certification changes so they could release patches for all platforms the day of and have cross platform play. And yea delaying the patch because of his death is silly tbh. Raise money for the cause do something but just delaying a patch for his memory is just signaling of the highest order.
This game needs 15 megabytes / hour.barney2525 wrote: »One gig per Hour ??
the download speed is 1000 megabytes per Hour ????
How are you even playing this game?
When has Zos released a chapter via disk? Seems that the COVID related delay of the chapter is irrelevant to Zos not releasing chapter or even DLCs via disk. As such, I fail to see how the delay has had any impact on your situation.
Further, the COVID related delay was announced over a month ago giving anyone plenty of time to adjust their schedules if needed. A great number of software releases were delayed due to the impact COVID has had on the industry and the world. Zos did not cause the issue. They merely responded to the issue as best as could be like pretty much all of us have and currently still are.
Yes, it is life interrupted.

Today is an extremely emotionally charged day for a lot of people- black people in the US have been systematically mistreated and murdered, and police are not being held accountable for their mistreatment of citizens. George Floyd's funeral is representative of all that- it's not just about a single person. It wouldn't be appropriate for ZOS to be actively celebrating on a day that so many are in mourning.

Im curious What respect exactly is it that you think a delay shows?
So, PC can't preload a chapter expansion either? Huh, so it's equally lame across all platforms.
I think ZOS should seriously rethink that. So many games that have pre-purchase also have preloading, for the CONVENIENCE OF THE CUSTOMER. Since internet service speed varies so much, place to place, I personally think companies that allow a preload to customers that have already turned over their money, just makes good sense. Having it unlock at actual release time, and being able to actually play then, instead of just beginning a lengthy download (for some) should be universal practice for digital purchase, IMO.

So think about how many times they have release something before and how many funerals were on those days, unbeleivable !!!! How outragous, how could they possibly do such a terrible thing!!!! Were you not outraged by that!?

@idk
Yes, Xbox does allow preloading if the game company does. I used to preload BioWare games that then unlocked for play at the designated times. However, that was always for a singleplayer RPG, which I assume is the difference. ESO is the first (and hopefully last) MMO I've played/will play. Well....Destiny too, I guess, but after 2 months I couldn't stand the lack of story anymore.
So many restrictions and inconveniences makes me dislike MMOs all the more, but that's just my bitter, singleplayer-loving soul talking. I'm sure I'm in the minority there.

@Bekkael
While I know some games have it designed so that a patch can be downloaded ahead of time, a lot of major MMORPGs do not. It does not seem to be that big of a deal to the masses and as I stated, updates are loaded on my PC and ready to go by the time I get home. Even when I have been home on patch day my game is ready to go when the servers go live again
If consoles do not let you set up your machine to download the update as soon as it is available then it seems it is the consoles that are lame and not so much interested in the convenience of their customers. They seem to be where the real problem is.

The same kind as holding the door open for the person behind you instead of slamming it in their face. Or cleaning the mud off your shoes before entering someone's home. Or as I mentioned earlier, yielding to a funeral procession instead of trying to force your way though the middle of it.
In short, it's the kind that says you're not a complete ***. It says you're just another person who understands that they are going though an emotional time right now so you're going to let them have a day to work that out. You're not going to inject yourself into it either by trying to sell them something or by running up and crying all over the casket pretending to be personally involved with whoever is inside.
That's all it takes to show respect to someone. Respect doesn't mean you have to kneel before them and sing their praises as if we were all sent back to the dark ages and you were in the presence of a king. It can be as simple as accepting a minor inconvenience for the sake of someone else.
Am I the only one that's just plain tired of politics being injected into absolutely everything?
