You were murdered and had your soul stolen. After the initial elation of escaping back home (without your soul still, but that doesn't seem to be a disadvantage), you find that the people who nicked your soul are going to effectively wipe out your world.

I'm not 100% sure your character is interested in happy rainbow land.
