On the plus side, @dbgager, the world building was excellent this time around ... Blackreach is visually stunning once you step into it.

A lot of last week's issues have already been fixed. Still some pending fixes for things such as the higher level Antiquity digs.

This is the problem with games now a days... they focus on fluff graphics... first game i played on the first pc i bought (tandy 1000 bought used from a lady who bought it from radio shack had an 8088 processor) was from the forgoten realms series for ad&d (pools of radiance, curse of the azure bonds, ravenloft to name a few). i had cga graphics but the story and the gameplay were excellent... fastforward 30 years and even the games under the ad&d titles are trash compared to those early ones... oh yeah the graphics are fantastic and wow everyone but theres little else.

On the other hand, every game that comes out that isn't Super Shiny tends to get piles of hyperbole-laden "what is this 1990's crap, it looks like Playstation 2 graphics, why isn't it using <list of latest DX14/$2k GPU features>, lazy devs!" posts. /eyeroll

YAH, thats really a shame too... all bling no substance makes games really stale quickly...
I simply must protest. There are no Penguin avatars for me to use in the forums.

BTW, I use arch too

This thread is asking about what people don't like about it specifically.
Isn't that basically most threads... on every single game's official board...

One person posts: "I... um... kinda liked it..." and folks run out to start talking about 'rampant white knights all up in this place !!!'

I'm just kinda tired at complaint threads virtually everywhere...
- snipped for brevity -

It is derailing from the purpose of the thread but meh. The strawman immediately after was unneeded (but then they all are).

Performance is still not where it needs to be. Still suffering to a greater or lesser degree on the area of the game. ZoS should have delayed this and spent more time fixing the base game bugs and tightening the overall release.

Feels hollow.
I was eager to play Greymoor, but the main quest is meh...I mean a lot...
The world building is an extremely big dissapointment to me. Comparing this to Skyrim feels a joke. Blackreach is another joke compared to Skyrim.

Zos made a really good job with Morrowind,Summerset and Elsweyr world building. Murkmire was awesome too...and Gold Coast was fantastic.... but Western Skyrim is the worst and laziest world building design to me. And I hate to say this.

I am sad for people who didn't play Skyrim prior to this and missed that absolutely magical moment where you open the door to Blackreach for the first time. You're coming out of a relatively typical Dwemer ruin and then this spectacular, shimmering world opens up in front of you and it's just a really unforgettable experience. I walked around in there for hours just in awe of everything. Brilliant.

Haven't people been saying this since Summerset?

For all I know, they might have said it when Morrowind came out, but I didn't get ESO until after Morrowind had been out for a little while, so I don't know.

But I do remember that when Summerset came out there were people asking whether the size of the map justified calling it a chapter instead of a DLC.

I don't remember as much of that kind of griping when Elsweyr came out, but it may have been because people were excited about dragons and Necromancers-- although there was griping from some people about those things (it's been done before, or it's pay-to-win), just not so much in terms of whether it was "big enough" to be called a chapter.

So this kind of debate isn't really anything new; it seems to come up again with each new chapter.

I'm not going to try to defend-- or attack-- the whole "chapter" concept, but aside from the fact that the newest chapter can't be purchased with Crowns in the Crown Store like old chapters and regular DLCs, I like the way each new chapter adds a new part to the overall story arc of the game, with the subsequent zone DLC (usually) continuing that story arc. Summerset and Murkmire were pretty much the only exception; even Morrowind and Clockwork City, which were released before the current "year-long story arc" concept was embraced, were somewhat connected to each other, if not to quite the same extent as Elsweyr and Southern Elsweyr, or Greymoor and whatever the upcoming zone DLC will be called.

To me a chapter should have a decent size some with big story. To me all 4 chapters did that. They should also have a skill/class that added to skills I. Game warden, psijic and necro. They could of down one and rune which has been data mined got years so some what is in game maybe no animation or skills but some aspect is. With the new standardization spell crafting could of been implemented which has some of the work already done years ago. Nothing that the chapter itself added aomthing to combat ability wise.
And I feel those standards was set by Zos by the previous 3 chapters
I really hope zos brings more puzzles back like what was in southern Elswer I was a little disappointed that they didn’t make more in greymoore.

Chapter is just too raw to be released. Harrowstorms are bugged, loot from them is not worth it, and wayshrines are not conveniently placed, do doing storm daily becomes an annoyance, that can last up to several hours. Delves have bugged enemies, that lack health bars, so players cannot hit them. Quests have difference between what is heard, and what is written in dialogue. No female Scion version, only male, overall vampire rework is lackluster, and all feedback was ignored. Mythic antiquities are bugged, some antiquities are even missing from drop lists. Many containers that should be lootable ( cupboards, desks, trunks) are not lootable, and furnishing plans and new paintings are nonexistent. Like 85k for basket furnishing plan, or 700k for a painting on pc eu after a week.

Story was just a rehash of Els. Story had a scooby-doo moment that was just, meh.
Most NPCs felt generic and artificial.
Mythics are interesting but I have no use for them. (Could be useful in the future)
Antiq's are just more junk for my inventory, very little of it is utilising the collectible system. EG, Each zone has a map that should go in the collectibles system, instead we have to lug it around at the same time people are calling for a furniture bag.
Also the things that actually are collectibles are presenting in the Antiq menu as though they can be collected again.
Higher grade leads don't dig properly the dig squares are completely misaligned from the actual chest more often than not.
Harrowstorms are meh, and a pain in the ass to farm.

If you expected a gritty viking-esque story from the trailers, prepare to be disappointed. I enjoyed the ascending matriarch story of Els, that was done well. Skyrim was the same thing, but completely boring and cheesy. They just shaved the cats and gave them an accent. Instead of a Necro, we got a shovel.

I'm REALLY hoping ZOS listens to this thread, and the part 2 DLC has a Ragnar Lothbrok type character and an army of viking-eqsue grit. I mean, that would explain why there were practically no male nord npc's in West Skyrim, that aren't self confessed cowards or buffoons, if we find out that a platoon of nord soldiers were send to [Insert Location of Part 2].

Came to Skyrim expecting an army of Ragnars, instead got an army of Righurts.

ZOS does seem to cut corners on some things like reusing voice actors, servers and other stuff which can be really off putting... However I am super happy overall with GM release and can overlook a some of the business side mistakes and under performances as long as the game play is good.

For being one of the most expensive games with ridiculously priced crown store items and tons of revenue none of these things should be an issue we should have the best of the best for what we pay.

I walked around in there for hours just in awe of everything. Brilliant.

It was such a colossal mistake in my book to let us into Blackreach in the prologue quest. This is one of those areas you save for the finale, like the moons in Elsweyr, Clockwork City in Morrowind, or the Forgotten Vale in Dawnguard.
It makes the whole story feel disconnected from the world around you. Blackreach is supposed to be this completely forgotten other world below, where corrupted Falmer and Dwarven automatons rule over ancient secrets, and what we find down there is a mining village and a few werewolves with mange.
It's like coming to the end of the world and finding a Starbucks there.

It's just so bizarre that they would bungle such basic story beats when they have been doing much better in all other releases. First the story drags on and on through investigations that reveal the obvious (Reach witches and vampires working together? no way!) and don't answer any meaningful questions, then it throws us a twist you could see coming all the way from Atmora and then it's already over. I imagine splitting the story between Q2 and Q4 harms the flow quite a lot, but I'm unsure the Reach DLC will be able to fix this mess.

Most of all I'm just so disappointed that they didn't tell any interesting stories unique to Skyrim and Nord culture. Elsweyr did this so much better I feel dirty even making the comparison. This is a province with so much history and mystery still to be addressed, which didn't make it into TESV, and they give us quests about stranded ships, collapsing orc mines and unsuccessful ghost hunters. All of this could - and often did! - take place anywhere else in Tamriel.
There is zero ambition in any of it. Heck, the Nord barrow in Wrothgar has almost more Nord history in it than this whole chapter. I enjoyed the Snow Whale reference in Dragonhold more than anything I found in Western Skyrim.

Also, wasn't the theme of this chapter supposed to be Gothic? Did anyone get that impression?
Alandrol Sul: He's making another Numidium?!?
Vivec: Worse, buddy. They're buying it.

In addition to the non-interactable containers, I've found several NPCs where you can activate the Blade of Woe and nothing happens, even though you get the music and the visual effect. Or you get the prompt to kill them, and you press the activation button and you start talking to them instead. (There's one NPC in the Rimmen fighter's guild who has been like that forever, it's so annoying!)

And I spent about 8 hours stealing and got a whopping three new green furnishing plans! And zero theft/looting furnishing items, where there were many available in Elsweyr. Drop rate for new stuff is by far the worst I've ever seen in all my years playing.

The vampire rework is utter trash and a shell of what it could of been.

Some quests aren't properly voice synced and are lacking voice acting all together.

The quality just really isn't there this expansion tbh.

Also from what I've heard the main story is pretty meh.

I wouldn't blame Greymoor chapter itself for the sound issues; I believe that is more patch related because there have been issues outside of Western Skyrim. Last night in vSS, Lokkestiiz continued to roar like he was doing breath even when the fight had not been started. Audible dialogue has been dropping out in the middle of a conversation, etc. Whether you get the chapter or not, you'll probably be encountering these issues.

Yeah I have just been doing random non-greymoor questing (to level new vamp skills) and I am constantly running into bugs

I am enjoying the vampire rework just because its different, but it could have - should have - been much better. The reused ultimate, necro steal, is borderline laughable in its blatant laziness says it all about the direction of everything at this point. As a werewolf, I really appreciate the update, but the "execute" is once again synonymous with the laziness of the overall effort. I mean really, you haven't given us a new move in how many years and you basically use the same exact move from claws of life/defile with a crappy sound-effect? Lol...

This will be my last expansion for absolutely sure unless some serious effort is made to fix the game. Before, I could justify paying for the mediocrity that is the state of the game. This time though, you guys didn't just drop the ball - you made sure to put it into a steel safe and sink it into the Marianas Trench.

This thread is asking about what people don't like about it specifically.

This is true.

However, I'm willing to bet actual money that if this thread were asking about what people do specifically like about it, there would also be posts from people saying what they don't like about it, and finding fault with the specific things that people say they like. You can see this time and again in other threads that try to focus on the positives.

I personally haven't played enough of the new content to have any specific gripes, but the two things that I did run into don't seem to be specific to Greymoor:

I haven't seen it in the live release yet, but while playing Greymoor on the PTS I ran into a quest where one of the characters was speaking to me without moving his lips-- tilting his head, gesturing, etc., but not moving his lips-- so I reported it as a bug. Several days later I went back to him-- or actually I had just logged out at that point because I had been ready to call it a night before starting that quest, but then I didn't go back onto the PTS for several days-- and lip-sync problem was gone.

Well, the other night I was in Stonefalls on my newest PC EU character, and after closing some scamp caves I went to talk to the soldier or officer who had been blocked from returning to her regiment by the scamps, and guess what? She was talking to me without moving her lips, just like what had happened in Greymoor. And two days later I happened to run into her again at that same spot while I was doing a different quest, and guess what? When I interacted with her, her lips moved like they were supposed to! So apparently any lip-sync issues which people might encounter in Greymoor have nothing to do with Greymoor, but are merely an issue that can occur in any zone-- even in the base game-- and then they can disappear again.

The other issue I ran into was while exploring in the Lightless Hollow. After accepting the quest from the elf lady, I went off to find her husband, but he wouldn't interact with me properly-- he said something about following the dog, but then he would just stand there in the dead end where I'd found him, and his quest marker showed him as being a companion. I had to run off some distance and go back to him before his quest marker changed to a normal one and his conversation would proceed as though I were meeting him for the first time. Then, after he ran off to follow his dog, when I caught up to them (after stopping to harvest a few nodes and loot a few containers on the way) the dog was there but he was missing, or they were both there but I couldn't interact with them, or something-- I forget the specifics, but in any case something was buggy. I finally relogged and everything was fine after that.

Well, I had initially entered the Lightless Hollow by a door that maybe I wasn't supposed to have used, because when I tried to leave by that same door it wouldn't let me. So I ran around exploring the place, and I had already gotten too close to the guy while exploring the mine tunnels before I ever discovered his wife and picked up the quest from her, so that might have been why my initial attempts to talk to him were off. And as I said, I didn't follow them when they ran off to find the missing miners, but took my time looting containers and farming nodes first, even if that took me in the opposite direction from where I was supposed to be going. So maybe that caused some sort of problem as well? In any case, this sort of thing can happen in the base game on occasion, where you must relog, or reload the UI, etc., to fix a quest that seems to have gotten stuck.

So should I be ranting about these two things that I've encountered and pointing to them as evidence that "Greymoor wasn't ready for release?" Or are they just "everyday issues" that have absolutely nothing to do with Greymoor per se? Because I'm thinking the latter, not the former, and that disparaging Greymoor because of those two issues would be unfair.

I agree 100%. I've spent hours opening cupboards, wardrobes, trunks and treasure chests and wrangling harrowstorms in Western Skyrim and Blackreach. Probably 40 or 50 chests and a couple dozen storms. No new furnishing plans, no paintings, nothing. If the harrowstorms weren't tied to a daily that has a small chance for a motif, I wouldn't bother with them at all.

Personally, I'm enjoying it a lot, although I haven't played through nearly as much of it as other people have.

Note that I'm speaking in general, such as when they go out to eat at a restaurant, or watch a movie, or do anything-- including playing a computer game. It's all about attitude and how different people tend to adopt either a positive or a negative attitude when reacting to the same things.

Mind you, I'm not suggesting that one attitude is better or more correct than the other; I'm just saying YMMV.

When I spend money to buy something, especially if the money I paid is non-refundable, I expect it all to work, or to be put into working order as soon as possible.

I don't care how great 60% of it works if 30% of it is problematic, and the last 10% is busted, not working as advertised, or not even in existence.

My money worked when they accepted it and spent it.
All of it, not just SOME of the money I sent.

I can't get excited by a beautiful house I bought if i find out they forgot to mention the basement floods every time in rains and the HVAC is underwater, and then they tell me there are just some issues they don't intend to ever fix because they only occur SOME of the time.
Is that focusing on the negative and ignoring the positive?

Pre-purchased the digital CE, complete waste of money and time. At least there were like, 3 SIDE quests I liked. Insane lag, invisible NPCs, glitchy harrowstorms, I saw the plot twist coming in the main quest from 5767586789 miles away and physically face palmed. After Summerset, when they got into this "whole year of adventure" bs, the DLCs became dull and waste of time.

I've played since December 2016 and I'm starved for content, it took me like 4 days (in a few hour batches) to complete the entire CHAPTER. And the treasure hunting thingy is also a waste of time since you need to grind it. Just ugh. I'd rather wait for TES 6 but ESO is the only thing to play before that comes out, like a thing that gets new content. *sigh*
