Red Alert Off

Laicus

Dear developers, I beg you to add the option to turn off red flashes over the heads of enemies when they detect a player. I've been playing ESO for a year now, but I haven't been able to get used to this anime feature.

We also have sheathed weapons that sort of float next to us, without sheathes, and a few other things that are a considerable distance from "maximum reality" This is not a "maximum realism" game, although it is a nice approximation, in my opinion.

True enough, and consistent with what one would expect in a fantasy game, along with weapons that are about 3x the size of some character models... :#

By maximum realism, I mean that fantastic things can be justified, magic is unexplored energy, vampirism is a disease that originally appeared with the help of magic (unexplored energy).
I’m ready to accept such things, because we don’t have all the universal knowledge, red flashes can also be explained by some special instincts of the player, but I don’t need such instincts, I understand perfectly well when I’m noticed.
I turned off the compass, GPS, target indicator, enlarging the map, etc., but I can’t turn off the flash using mods, only developers can add this setting, and everyone will be happy - both hobbyists and hardcore enthusiasts.

At least they didn't go the Metal Gear route, with the exclamation point and little "Surprise" sound byte eh?

There is no difference, in any game there should be the most flexible settings that satisfy the preferences of any player.

This is a very bad summation.
Some conventions are in any game and they are even necessary, but there are also elements that are just unnecessary for some players, such as subtitles, illuminated loot, fire/grenade pointer, etc., it should be possible to disable such elements, and almost every game has it, because, first, it affects the enjoyment of the gameplay, and secondly, it is just another check mark in the settings (or even 1/0 in the config file), which does not require any changes to the engine or writing huge scripts. In ESO, you can disable the contour of enemies, but for some reason you can not disable red flashes, although this is a redundant element, because the enemy's behavior makes it clear that he noticed the player.

Nothing wrong with asking for options to turn things off on your own character. Others can choose to leave those things on.

I for one would love to have the option to turn off combat music.

I would love to disable auto-targeting of magic, but so that the npc does not have it, too, but this choice will not appear, so I do not even ask for it, but the option to disable flash, it's such a simple thing, I'm sure it will not take the developers a lot of time (just a few minutes).

MMO and realism rarely go together. Telegraphed attacks don't strike me as realistic at all.

Telegraphed attacks don't strike me as realistic at all.
This is very sad, as well as almost instant respawn of enemies, and the inability to slow down the speed of game time (in TES, I always set timescale to 1), and a lot of things I would like to change. It is a pity that the developers did not support the tradition of TES, with its relatively calm and fairly realistic gameplay with an emphasis on dialogues - this would be ideal for fans of TES and prefer the pve part of the game with well-developed quests and a deep plot.
But even now, thanks to the interface mods, I sometimes have the same feelings that I had in Morrowind, for example, a masochistic high from disorient and a long search for the goal of the quest. With these mods, I like TES online more than, for example, Skyrim, although there are many more mods for it, but there is not such a variety of locations, and the presence of people and the ability to communicate with them makes the world of TES online more alive, although sometimes this fuss is out of place.

Okay. I am going to assume you're new to the game, going by your forum join date and evident misunderstanding of MMO mechanics. You can dispute this, but the complaint about fast respawn on enemies alone is enough to make this point.

You say you miss the ability to slow down timescale... You do understand that you share this gameworld with thousands of other players, right? It's not just about you.

The world has to be kept persistent for everyone in the instance, or it all falls apart. The fast respawn on enemies, again, is essential to MMO mechanics. Or do you want a world where you can do literally nothing because everything is dead? Because that is what would happen if enemies didn't respawn in a timely fashion.

My advice is to not expect ESO to be anything like a single-player TES game. Because it is not, should not, and never will be. This is an MMO and that means it has MMO mechanics. Arena/Daggerfall/Morrowind/Oblivion/Skyrim mechanics cannot work in an MMO environment.

As for the "tradition of TES"? I disagree. I think it has been handled brilliantly, as far as storytelling is concerned. Even dungeons have an easier mode so that we can get our story experience from them. I do that first myself, because I too am a huge TES fan.

However, it is wrong to expect this game to play like a single-player game. More to the point, it is far, far too late for the mechanics to change. You would need to go back to before the official release. Like years before. And if such changes were made in an alternate reality, I suspect the game would have flopped. Because, as I say, single-player mechanics do not work in MMO games. Not regarding timing and mob spawns.

You probably didn't understand me (presumably due to the fact that I use a Google translator ), I've been following the ESO since its release, just waiting for it to be polished and more content will appear (I like to watch TV series in one gulp, or when I'm completely impatient, at least when a few seasons will come out. A teaspoon an hour is torture for me :) ).
The respawn time of enemies would be enough to increase at least 2 times, and reduce the speed of game time by about the same amount.
But I am more or less satisfied with everything, I wrote about this for the sake of conversation. :)
As I wrote earlier, I only need to disable the red flashes and I will be happy as an elephant. :D

No, most definitely it is not. The fact that it does the thing on the heads of the mobs does not make it one, either.

This. Sorry dude but it's pretty basic MMO telegraph, and it's not going anywhere.

Not sure what any of this has to do with "anime", given that reaction effects like that have existed in videogames for decades.

    Laicus wrote: »

Thinking about it, I can't recall seeing 'alert' effects in many JRPGs. Most of which aren't particularly "anime" (unless, of course, one is using the absurdly-broad generalization "Japanese = anime")

Not sure if I qualify as a "fan" - only played MW, Oblivion, and Skyrim (modded & unmodded) multiple times. Personally, I understand that this is an MMO, and therefore will have a number of differences from the single-player games.

In the end, this game is an MMO with TES added, not TES with an MMO added. i.e, it's more MMO than TES. So expecting it to be more TES than MMO will always end in disappointment.

The game is great, I'm just annoyed by these red flashes and I can't do anything about it, I hope the developers will hear my pleas and help the suffering stranger. :'(
