What’s your favorite role to play?

So, this is a standard post in any MMO forum and one that’s been here in the past. But, with recent expansions and new players I’m curious what everyone’s favorite role is to play.

I have a Stamnecro, Templar healer, and I recently started a warden tank.

DPS is my go to world questing character but I’m not a fan of the role in dungeons, trials, etc. so much importance is placed on DPS rotations, weapon swapping, and weaving that I find I can’t enjoy playing because all my focus is in making sure I’m hitting rotations perfectly so my DPS is the best ( ha it’s not).

I like healer because I can focus on keeping group alive without solely focused on rotations. Yes, I need to keep buffs and rebuffs up but it’s different.

Surprising to me though, I’m loving tank the most. I feel that I’m controlling the battles and again I can focus on the game and the whole battle without having soooo much focus on DPS rotations.

PVE tank. I love having control of the battlefield. My battle-cry is yelling at the boss: "Pay attention to ME!"

Plus I never have to worry about getting a fake tank.

Most embarrassing moment as a tank: my friends and I were running vet Imperial City Prison for the first time several years ago, and I kept dying to the first boss. He had this big overhand cleave attack and if I didn't move out of the red wedge immediately, I died. I was dying a lot, and then my friends kept wiping. As we got more and more frustrated, our healer asked, "Are you blocking that attack?"

I'd forgotten that I could block.

We finished the dungeon after that.

All of them at the same time, which is why I like to solo  !

Seriously, I've always got bored so quickly in any MMO where I regularly grouped up in order to perform a single role. I probably enjoyed it more when I was healing, but I still ended up getting bored with the monotony of it.

My favorite role to play is honestly none of those, since I'm a role-player first and foremost. Roles for a storyteller are not dungeon roles, but more like "I'm the ne'r do well knife in the alley looking for their next mark" or "I'm the psychopomp who helps the restless dead find the sands behind the stars" and the like. That's how I think of my characters first and foremost. Dungeon role considerations are secondary when designing characters, but more often than not I make tank/dd hybrids. Since they removed the ability to queue in more than one role in dungeon finder, that means I end up queuing tank all the time, I guess?

DD as it's the most challenging role. I enjoy tanking though but never really liked healing, too defensive for me.

    Goddess and part-time Khajiit

For dungeons and trials I can do it all.

With that said....if my dear friend who is a healer drops. Instead of rezzing, I will roll-dodge and bunnyhop through the carnage just to clamdip her.

We have great fun in our trials, as half of us are hardcore PvPers :D

Edit because I bypassed the profanity filter like a forum pro OwO

I really enjoy being supportive, and there have been a couple Dungeons where I clinched a Boss fight when everyone else had wiped but there was like 200k HP left. I love the Jesus Beam.

Those were some of my best memories.

PvP Healing sucks so hard tho.

I main tank, its gives me the most freedom.

CC's, buffs, debuff, control the pacing of the battle and positioning.

Find it much more interesting than when I stand around trying to remember my rotations.

Healing in ESO is interesting as you get to do some DPS. It is a fair middle ground, but tank is awesome for me.

    Healer
Pretty hard for me to decide between tank and healer, I like them both pretty equally depending on my mood. I went with healer because my favorite build to use is my Stam healer. There's just something really fun about a healer who can run and dodge around the battlefield like it's an obstacle course.

    But...

Tank: It's the natural leadership role, not everyone takes the initiative on that but when you do it can really cut down on the BS by keeping everyone on the same page. When I'm in one of my more authoritative moods I like running as a tank. It's also very active being right in the thick of things on every pull

Healer: This is more of a sit back, survey the field, and fill in the blanks kind of role to me. Though it's more active than that makes it sound I find healing to the most relaxing of the 3 roles. I think because of my MMO history, ESO's brand of healing, where you're basically a buffer/de-buffer with healing duties, just comes naturally to me. When I want to just sit back and make sure everyone else in the group has everything they need to fulfill their duties, I run with a healer.

DPS: Not that I don't also enjoy playing as DPS, but when it comes to the building process I enjoy taking a more balanced approach, and because of that most of my DPS type characters are best suited for PvP (which I'm ok at but still need some practice), or farming world bosses and other solo type activities. But I do have a couple characters optimized for group play and I enjoy running with them once in while, particularly my magsorc, but I'll be honest here I'm a little spoiled when it comes to queue times so that's often a deterrent for me.

DPS is fun, because there is competition between dps. Those group dps add-ons are amazing, there is always tension.. I am not saying tanking and healing aren't fun.. they are fun when content is hard... but when content becomes trivial, supports may relax, while dps must always try their best.

    Healer
I like both tanking and healing.

One of my first chars on the NA server was a tank, an Imperial Dragonknight, with whom I had a lot of fun playing. Haven't been tanking when I made the switch to EU back in 2015.

I did pick up healing tho when Morrowind launched and I've been healing for 3 years now with my Warden (also made a Templar for backup). I really enjoy healing in this game :)

A few months ago, I race changed and respecced my Warden to tank for PvE (and Stamina for PvP). It was fun and Wardens make great tanks, but it didn't work out as well as when I was healing.

So I switched back to healer again :)Mushrooms for all!!! \o/

Sounds like you have a lot of experience for both roles. Just started a warden tank myself. Did you just have more fun with healer?
