I've got an excellent pvp experience going on...little to no toxicity...except for the lag of course :#

    1. Because PvP creates toxic environments.
    2. Because PvP encourages poor attitudes and immature rivalry.
    3. Because Many PvP players disdain PvE players as a lower form of life. “we” (PvE players) are not worthy because “we” don't play the “real endgame.”
    4. Because PvP players disregard the wants and needs of PvE players when it comes to balance. THEY are more important, thus the impact of changes that negatively effect PvE are “irrelevant.” The PvE players game gets tossed on its head because of the whiny PvP players and their precious nerfs.
    5. Because PvP in a PvE focused game kills the PvE game from the nerfs all in the name of “balance.”

i see more friendly helpful behavior in ESO PVP than nasty behavior... but then it's all in-guild... i avoid zone chat generals. :)
imo, some players just take games too seriously & tie it to their egos.. whether it's PVE or PVP, some players feel the need to do this.
people generally get mad when they feel like they could have done better but don't want to blame themselves for it so they lash out at other players.

It's strange. People in the same alliance are supposed to help each other, but I just see people trying to be inflammatory with politics and being mildly racist in chat, while talking trash about someone for seemingly no reason. Pve can be toxic too, but it's usually because someone who lies about how good they are winds up ruining a trial run, while pvpers on the same side hate each other just because they can.

I know that pvp is usually the most toxic part of any game because your goal is to stop someone else from doing what they want to do while they try the same on you, but i've never seen so many allies trash each other so much when they could easily work together and beat team green.

it's the same "me, here, now" mentality these people have, that allows people like me to price-gouge new content that'll be worth <10% of what I'm charging now, within a week.
Shortly after the formation of the Ebonheart Pact, a Nord woman was given a tour of the Tribunal Temple. When later asked about the experience, she seemed upset. Suffice to say, the Dunmer were not pleased to hear this, and thus they inquired further.
"Well," the Nord frowned, "the priests were very angry and unwelcoming. They kept shouting things at me like "you can't drink that mead in here!" and "somebody stop her, she's running naked!" and "we can't catch her; she's covered in grease!""

Yeah, that's why rings of mother sorrow happen at gold vendor several times per year, but within couple of months ramp up back to 200k+... why all those PVE mages don't want to wait until next golden vendor sale...?
Oh, and style motifs/furniture schemes are selling at exorbitant prices at first days after release...
Maybe this has nothing to do with mentality, but experienced players simply have abundance of gold and can afford to buy what they want now, when they want it and when it will bring most joy instead of waiting for something?

Gotta love a thread about other players being toxic to you that's been modded due to profanity and baiting, maybe the way you express yourself in zone chat had something to do with it?

As someone who drops a lot of smartass comments in the Cyro chat, often to cut people off who are having pointless tirades or arguments, I don't really share your experience. More often that not, other players tend to join in on the jokes. There might be a couple of players without any semblance of humor in out chat, but they tend to be in the minority. Experienced might differ from other factions, platforms and campaigns though as I only play in one campaign on the same faction.

Studies have found that PvP in video games has a causal relationship with increased expressions of violence. Not actual violent acts, but the kind of toxic comments and belligerence you will come across. It is interesting that they were able to go beyond just identifying correlation.

Because PVP is an environment that gives the chance to some problematic people to feel important and be what they can't be in real life.

Someone in IC sent me a private message calling me names, just because I managed to kill him. He called me a noob who can't play and uses only one skill and various other insults I cant write here.

But I generally ignore them and if someone is toxic, goes to my ignore list instantly.

The male hierarchy revolves around Intimidation and Domination and Most pvpers went through the same beginning of getting wrecked and were probly told to "Git Gud" as well and now they continue the cycle of toxicity when the bullied becomes the bully. They start winning and and now they think it is within their right to trash people the way they were trashed.

A lot of people channel their real-world anger into a fantasy world where they are able to be Top Rung for a change.

I think most violent acts are emulated behavior and people tend to recreate their trauma so rather than take it personal, I see it as a reflection of that person's environment. Anger is often misdirected bc people who are coping with trauma are often emotionally immature if they are trying to deny their ailments rather than name them and begin the healing process.

This is more of a general societal observation, This may just be how people act in PVP but MMO communities are no exception to this observation bc they are made up of real life people.

In short, don't take it personally, like I said, another person's anger rarely has anything to do with you unless you have personally done something to warrant it, that person had issues long before you came along.

    6. An entire generation of humans who were told their whole lives that they are “special” and they are “winners,” but when they lose they do not know how to grasp the concept, and the result is incessant whining and hateful attitudes from the result of being an entitled millenial without the proper structure and discipline to competently function in society.

    ok boomer

There are people like that in every generation. I'm not a Boomer, but not far after. There are selfish entitled people who always have to find someone to blame for their own lack of skill or aptitude or whatever.

PvP seems to have a larger share of these people. YMMV.

Yeah, I just couldn't resist saying it. Blaming an entire generation for anything is pretty silly tbh.

As for PvP players being rude to each other, I think some people just take losing in video games way too seriously. Sure, it's always nice to win, but there will always be someone out there who is either more skilled or has a build that counters yours. Maybe once/if those players figure that out, they'll quit being so salty.

PvPers seem angry at pretty much everything and everyone lol. I think it’s an anger release for gamers. Or the preferred gameplay for Angry People

PvP zone chat is the worst thing in the game imo - and that’s often directed at the players own faction lol.

In my experience, it is entirely the other war around - in fact it's one of the main reasons I originally decided to give PvP a go years ago, because I got fed up of salty, elitist PvE players who wouldn't accept anything other than meta in their base game vet dungeons.

In PvP I regularly have decent conversations with people on my faction and even players I 1v1 in Cyrodiil - there are plenty of people who'll say 'good fight' after those duels.

Ultimately, this is the internet - you'll always get people who get away with behaving like children. I wish people on this forum would stop villainising the PvP community, especially when some of you have hardly even touched PvP, it is both unfair and hypocritical.

PvP encourages you to be an ***. That's just it's nature. The entire, core goal of PvP is to ruin somebody else's day. This can be tempered with some honor and good sportsmanship, but there's a lot of people attracted to it that just don't understand the concept.

I think it's more of the type of people that is allowed to stay in the game.

Look at IRL "PvP" -- When you get together for a game of 1-on-1 basketball with your friend, is your "core goal" to ruin their day? Is the "core goal" of professional sports to "ruin their day"? Or do they establish competitive leagues so that you are constantly against people of approximately your level so that you can be at your best and improve?

Ultimately it's the type of people here, encouraged to come and stay because of exploitable mechanics and lack of TOS policing. When your game is haven for lowlifes it's going to end up a skid row.

You blew it mate. I had this happen in Aion, where after killing a player I got all kinds of "kek" in chat, which was the rough translation for "bad" from Elyos to Asmodian. I set up a shop: "If I'm bad, what does that make you", and they respawned to wherever they were bound.
