I don't need meaningless updates that tell me no new info - happy to assume they are still busy - they will be wanting the servers up as desperately as we all do too, believe it or not.

I think the main issue here, if you can sift through all the ranting is that most people are time poor and what little free time they do have they don’t like to waste. Hence the general feeling of dissatisfaction here.
Yet again though theres a complete lack of updates, so then you have threads from people asking of they should just go down the Pub, now if there were updates he could have made an informed choice, however seeing as we dont know how bad things are the Servers may be back up in five minutes or it may be tomorrow.
So I will ask how many people here have been hanging around checking the forums on the off chance?

Well this is why 90% of people who rage here should stay away from MMO launches for the first month or so. I've never been able to work out why people buy 0-day MMOs and the rage when the server goes off. Do you really think Zenimax has a real life sheogorath that say "Hey, let's shake things up and have some fun at EU prime time"!
But part of the fun at launch is to see how much they will mess up, and raging doesn't hurt anyone (maybe you).
You really dont get, that false rage hurts a game alot?

Yeah. Problem is, if 90% stayed away, the producers wouldn't make near as much dosh as they do when everyone buys it early. And of course, all the load-related issues would simply occur when everyone else 'buys in' after a month. What you would really need to do is get people to pay up front but have staggered access - though of course no one will be willing to pay for a game to wait 10 months before they are let in while others are already playing it. So they and we all rather live with the bugs and the downtimes and all get in when it's new...
Yeah but if people chose to play then they have to accept things like this. I've seen this in every MMO I have played since UO and it never changed. Same old rage, same old story. I do blame Zenimax though for not doing a proper open beta for a month or so and then this could have been ironed out. It wouldn't have stopped the rage in the entitlement generation but at least people wouldnt be paying the sub for that month.
Well, I guess that's why for the past two or three months, they were running betas with 4 million users - which produced exactly such endless load time and loginb server collapses like we've just experienced again. The point is that this is like traffic jams - you can't stop them from happening (even if you build ever wider motorways), but people get upset if they're stuck in one anyway. And that even though of course they wanted to get somewhere when everyone else also wanted to, so even though - in a way - it's their own fault. But the problem is if you're on a toll road and are stuck in a traffic jam, you're going to blame not yourself but the road provider - and that is exactly what is happening here, too. So if you say people have to accept such issues early on in an MMO, you'll also have to accept that people will be upset about these issues and complain loudly about it.The brave may not live forever, but the cautious do not live at all...0 -
