Massive decline in quality of Collector's Editions - Greymoor CE is laughable

I noticed a trend that each collector's edition is £30 more expensive than the last, yet the quality never goes up. I bought Morrowind CE for £60, Summerset CE for £90, and now Greymoor CE for a ridiculoud price of £120. Morrowind and Summerset are both extremely similar, and come with the game with steelbook, artbook, and a statue + digital content. Between Morrowind and Summerset, Summerset's artbook was noticeably smaller, plus the steelbook was flat where as Morrowind had an engraved logo. I was able to overlook those minor differences, but the drop in quality between Summerset and Greymoor is just jawdropping.

Considering how expensive Greymoor is, I expected the statue to be of much higher quality, but not only is it made out of cheap and light plastic, it looks like they forgot to paint it. Also, instead of an artbook, we got 4 metal coins, which I have to admit, they are pretty cool, but for the price of £120 we should have had an artbook AND the coins, not one or the other.

The price is ridiculous for the statue. Looks cheap and ugly.

The reasons why I stopped buying Walking Dead LE's. Quality decreased while the price increased

Just make the CE pay to play already, by giving 2 exotic mounts, a perfected weapon or something and DROP the physical editions.

I've seen these pictures circulating and I think the Background contrast and Lighting obviously has something to do with the differences.

The advertisement on left has dim Lighting from the Right and the statue is just slightly more turned to the left on a dark gray background that accents the Brown Rustic tones while the Right customer pic is on a white background and has an above light as well as a flash coming at it so the sheen of the plastic is more reflective but that shine is still visible on the advertised photo if you look closely so It seems to me that you got what you paid for but lighting and placement plays a big part.

I'm not trying to convince you the quality is better than it is but take this as a learning experience not to let [snip] compel you to buy every shiny object that catches your eye.

And if it really bothers you that much, what's the return policy!?!

Vampire Lord even have different face expression. On promotion picture he looks down on somebody and says "you are just a cattle, mortal" and on the left he is like "WTF?"

Also level of detail is different. It is obvious it is 2 different statues.

The lighting, placement and Degree of the Statue's positioning and the Angle the photos were taken are different. Until you recreate the conditions of the PHOTO you are comparing it to, you can't say they're not the same statue.

The coins are definitely nice, nicer even than I expected them to be. But I completely agree with the lack of a book this time around is such a shame, an art/concept book with all the grand gothic architecture of Blackreach or the marshes of Hjaalmarch would've been nice, or maybe a journal of an old vampire telling his story. I also agree that the quality of the statue is definitely less than that of previous editions, which is a real shame.

What is it that actually makes you people buy this collector's crap?

unless you ever felt the urge to collect anything - you are unlikely to understand it. some of us enjoy collecting things. for me its fun to look at mementos of experiences I enjoy or enjoyed in a past. like a photo album of sorts, except instead of photos, its statues and other fun trinkets.

that said.. i didn't buy this particular CE, because even in promo it didn't seem worth it for me. part of what i enjoy collecting is lore and art books. part of what i have absolutely NO interest in, are coins. so.. there's that. but again, every collector has their own preferences.

lol, that may explain the price. those minis can cost an arm and a leg, especially the larger hero types. at least when they come from official sources.

I was extremely disappointed with the statue, it looked much nicer in the picture. The CE cost 130 euro, which is *** much. In general, I feel that ZOS is overcharging for everything nowadays, crown store prices are ridiculous as well, which seems like an odd thing in these dystopic times we're living. It makes me sad.

I missed a hilarious reaction for this one.

The CE was definitely overpriced. The reason I buy CE's is because say you're paying €60 for a base game that's just a digital copy somewhere is overpriced to me when it's 100% profit. Whereas getting something physical is nice for a collection, to have some memory with it. Often the difference between base game and a CE is less than half of the actual game and you get loads of interesting physical goodies with it, statues, art books, soundtracks, maps, etc. For games that I'm very hyped for, or are really in my line of interests, I definitely like to get something more than a €60 code when I can get a €90 CE with lots of things added, which often cost more than €30 to make and ship out to me. And that's what I also like, publishers don't often make (much) money on CE versions compared to giving a digital code and that's it. I guess that's why Elsweyr didn't have a physical CE and why this one is so overpriced.

I definitely agree, I really wanted there to be a book for this version as well. And I'm not usually into coins either, and wasn't expecting much out of these... But they are pretty high quality, quite big and heavy, so that was a pleasant surprise.

That statue looks horrible compared to the one in the promo.

They should have taken many pics to accurately show the potential buyers. Especially, if the quality was going to be that drastic of a change, in different lighting.

In any event, they should of just had them repainted, making sure all was top caliber. Simple.

So much work went into the sculpture. Imo the same effort should of went into the finish/patina, for a truly standout product.

It is CE, not a free give away promo.

Collectors editions are all garbage. Cost to Zos, maybe 20, 25 us bucks. The rest profit. Look at the ripoff the Crown Store is. What did you all expect from Zo$..

The statue of Mephala that came with Summerset was top notch. I was extremely pleased and stands proudly near my ES(O) books, CDs and box sets.

That being said, I never considered Graymoor CE box set simply because the statue on the promo looked glossy, kind of slimy (yuck). Vampires are feral creatures but shouldn't be slimy.

Anyway, I'm not sure what happened, but it's kind of missed opportunity - Graymoor has PLENTY of extremely nice details that could have been molded and modeled after. Or what one guy here said - at least the statue should have been properly painted with matte finish.

Well a mail from ZOS came today, and we did actually get our crowns with the month of ESO Plus. So that's something. Now I'm still missing a book that goes along with Greymoor...

you're welcome. but seriously though art books, behind the scenes books, lore books are like candy for me. i love them, i read and reread them (I am that weirdo that likes to reread stories and rewatch movies), i look at art periodically, i just find it very pleasing. same as looking at pretty statues. its part of the reason why i personaly was so disappointed with Summerset CE. i mean the statue is nice, but the art book was really crappy quality. thin pages that stain easily, thinner softer cover. it makes it more fragile which means i cannot just randomly leaf through it as often.

i also know that some collectors collect as an investment and occasionally sell to people like me who might be willing to pay extra at a chance for rare collectible (not me specifically, i'm way too cheap, but you know.. people who are not cheap :P ) though in their case, unlike me, they tend to keep collectibles in their original packaging, to keep them as pristine as possible (and therefore - higher value). in non gaming terms - these are your art collectors, the ones that buy a painting or several or old coins, expecting them to appreciate in value over the years.

me i'm a collector for personal pleasure, but to each their own :)
