How much for crafting?

I am approaching master crafter for my main toon and I was starting to think about helping out people who ask for assistance with crafting items. How much do you charge? I was thinking if they supply all of the mats to do it then I dont want anything for it but how much if they don't?

Thanks!

For guildies I craft for free as long as they provide mats.

I don't really go out of my way to craft for anyone else.

I ask for mats only. If it’s a completely New player in one fo my guilds I may add some upgrades for free, but otherwise I ask that they provide the mats.

If they choose to tip, it is greatly appreciated and I accept whatever they offer. If not, it only took me about 5-10 mins to help out another player.

I don’t ask for tips, or any fee to craft.

All mats up front for guildies, crafting free. For randoms mats + tip 10k.

Only exception is if someone wants a rush job. Where they expect me to stop everything and make their sets right there and then. For that service all mats + 100k. Had too many randoms take advantage....

I luv helping fellow players, as much as possible with in reason :)

If its CP160 stuff I expect them to provide the mats and know what they want made, tip is optional.

Even then for guild mates bare min I expect from them is expensive mats, I usually just cover the basic mats, got enough gold and mats that I usually don't care too much about wasting some to give someone some decent gear, just gonna sit in the crafting bag otherwise.

For guild mates and friend's sometimes new players I come across:

If its low level gear either a training set or low level PVP gear, so long as they know what they want or at the very least tell me what weapons they want and whether they are a magic or stamina build, I just make the stuff for them. Most low level stuff does not require many mats and since I have decent stockpiles of them I just don't worry about it.

I am giving you the heads up now, the only real downside of offering crafting services is when your contacted by someone that has no understanding of the crafting system in game at all and no knowledge of what the crafted sets are and wants build advice to top it off. (for example more than a few have asked me to craft them monster sets, that is the level of knowledge of some of the people you will be dealing with)

Its not fun explaining everything to someone who should have done some basic research before even seeking a crafter, sadly they tend to be the most common type of people seeking you out.

I got no issue helping people I just wish they were all ready to go, know what they wanted done, so I could just get on with it without having to spend 20 minutes back and forth figuring out what they want done.

Ya know for low level below 50 cp 160 if i have the mats for a guildie i will likely make sets for free.

For others who supply the mats i'n not looking for a score but if they throw some coin my way and they aren't a guildie i'll take it... But if it's one or two items like i am often asked of lately i am happy with mats...

I have been trying to make crafted items for sale that are nirnhooned and gold quality but i have mixed success with selling them.

For guildies, all crafting is free if they provide mats. Low level stuff (e.g. training gear) even free completely since I have the mats. But I usually ask them to provide tempers if they want the armor improved.

If a stranger in zonechat asks for something, I might do it for free, but a lot less likely to spend my time crafting for strangers. Unless it's a starting zone and they're clearly a noob, then I usually send them a training set for free. But usually just green, cause again, I do need my tempers.

My issue is when people want you to craft, but don't know what... Happens way too often, especially with new players. And it gets sooo tiresome to explain to every single one of them over and over.

    - Any crafter online?
    - Sure, if you got mats. What do you need?

    - Okay, which set?
    - A dps set.

    - I need a crafted set please, anybody?
    - Sure, if you got mats. What do you need?
    - I need the Julianos set.
    - Okay, what trait? Divines?
    - Julianos.
    - No, that's... *sigh* Sets are equipment that provide a special set bonus when worn with other pieces of that set. Traits are modifiers you can put on all equipment that give you a flat bonus. You can have sets like Julianos but together with specific traits, like Divines, and... *etc etc*

    - Hey I need a crafted armor please!
    - Sure, if you got mats. What do you need?
    - A set for Sorcerer.
    - Well... all right. Are you Stamina or Magicka?
    - I'm a Sorcerer.
    - ...

    - Can someone craft me Hundings, Divines?
    - Sure, if you got mats. Want 5 body pieces, or need weapons?
    - Yeah, weapons would be nice.
    - 2hander and bow? Or DW?
    - Well, I was experimenting with this build that I found online and I do like bows but DW looks very cool too and my cousin died from a pool noodle attack when we were little so 2handers have a special significance to me too, but I'm worried about how it will fit in with my Nightblade which is the awesomest class ever isn't it really? Anyway, what do you recommend?

I am a softie and craft for just about anyone, including guildies, when I notice the request. That doesn't happen often though.

I do it for free. I can't figure out the full mat cost easily enough, so free is easier. I certainly don't know the going cost on guild vendors.

Though I mostly just craft for my own alts, which is more limited now that all are 50.

A piece is [mat price + 2k] when I use my mats. Perhaps slightly more for hard to craft stuff (9-traits, expensive style]

When mats are provided, I ask for a paltry sum (2-5k) for the whole lot.

To be fair, not only I get paid, but I get a lot of added tips as well. Some people out there sure know how to treat their crafter.

EDIT : for cp 160 gear, of course.
For training gear, it's either 400g a pop, blue quality for rerolls, or free for a new player, as a welcoming gift.

The story the other way around:

    - Any crafter there?
    - Yes. What do you need?
    - Training gear. Best would be level 16.
    - What sets do you want?
    - 5 pieces twice born, shoulders down, 5 pieces shackle breaker, rest of body, 511 medium if you dont mind, training purple for the armor, jewelry robust white, with enchantments that make sense. Weapon is not important, since I will get several new weapons, but a twohander and a bow level 16 would be nice, just in case.
    - Do you have the mats?
    - Just tell me what I have to pay you for it.
    - I won't charge you any money, just give me the mats.

And there I stood, 1.5M gold and not a single ingot, with a crafter who was 100% sure to do me a favor. And that happened not once and not twice ... :D

Most of the time, crafters who ask for mats do so because they don't have the extra mats or they don't feel like busting out a calculator to figure out what they'll have to spend on your very specific list.
'5 pieces twice born, shoulders down, 5 pieces shackle breaker, rest of body, 511 medium if you dont mind, training purple for the armor, jewelry robust white, with enchantments that make sense. Weapon is not important, since I will get several new weapons, but a twohander and a bow level 16 would be nice, just in case.'

So 5 Twice-born shoulders down, medium pieces. The mat for the level 16 version will be Hide. Chest needs 8 Hide, Legs need 7, Boots 6, Gloves 6, Belt 6. But hold up they want 5 medium 1 heavy 1 light, so I'll make the Chest heavy and the Belt Light, so actually that's Legs for 7 Hide, Gloves for 6 Hide, Boots for 6 Hide. Belt will need Cloth, so that's 6 Flax. Let me move over to the Blacksmithing station, Chest will be 8 Steel Ingots. And they want it in Training so that's 5 Emeralds.

5 Pieces Shackle breaker rest of body and jewelry. Ok let me move over to the other set station. So. That's a medium head for 6 Hide, and shoulders for 6 Hide. Will need 2 Emeralds for Training. Let me move to the Jewelcrafting station. A level 16 Necklace will need 14 Pewter Ounces, and Ring needs 9, plus another Ring of course. Robust on all 3 will take 3 Zinc.

Weapons 'would be nice' but what set do they want it? Didn't say, I'll make it New Moon Acolyte since the rest of their gear is very hybrid too. A 2hander needs 6 Steel Ingots. Let me move to the Woodworking station. A bow will need 4 Sanded Oak. And since these are weapons the Training needs not Emerald but Carnelian, so 2 Carnelian.

Oh but they want it purple, so that will be 2 Honing Stone, 3 Dwarven Oil, 4 Grain Solvent for the 1 heavy armor, then (2 Hemming, 3 Embroidery, 4 Elegant Lining) times 6 for the 5 medium and 1 light. And they didn't mention upgrading the weapons, but that would be 2 Honing Stone, 3 Dwarven Oil, 4 Grain Solvent for the 2hander, and 2 Pitch, 3 Turpen, 4 Mastic for the bow.

And they want it enchanted too. 'Enchantments that make sense' what does that mean? All his sets are mixed stats. Do they want Tri-stat glyphs? Surely not on a level 16 set. I guess I'll make half the glyphs add max Stamina and half add max Magicka? Closest Glyph level is level 15, so that would be 7 Jejora, 7 Rekuta, and 4 Deni and 3 Makko for the armor glyphs let's say. For the jewelry glyphs I guess 3 Jejora, 3 Ta, and 1 Denima and 2 Makkoma. Or would they want 2 Taderi and 1 Makderi maybe? On a level 16 set? Who knows they didn't say. Oh and enchantments for the weapons too, maybe? 1 Jejora, 1 Okori, 1 Rekuta, and 1 Tade, 1 Deni, 1 Rekuta maybe?

It takes you the same amount of time to add up what materials you need for your crafting needs.
Hence, 'free if you bring your own mats'.

But crafters would have to figure out all those mats, then figure out how much they should charge you for their own mats based on current market prices, and then make sure they have everything otherwise they'd have to run around buying mats for you at guild traders (trying to find them in the exact quantity you need, no less) and then also remember how much they paid at each trader so they can charge you for it. Ain't nobody got time for all that  Especially for low level sets, where the mats and amount needed varies based on level so we won't know it all automatically like cp160 which are a set cost.

Edit: Oh, and even if we do add all that up, and figure out all the material costs, and got everything we need, then we'll get the 'Awesome, thanks, can I pay you next week when I farm some stuff, bit low on gold at the moment'

My advice is to craft sets that sell well and are always in demand and throw them up on the trader. Or you can bounce from zone to zone offering those sets too. Maybe you can charge extra if someone wants something customized?

I very rarely craft sets for folks anymore. It has become too tiresome as many folks have said above. Most people do not understand how the crafting system works and want you to do everything for them, including buying mats that you normally do not stock in bulk or simply do not want to part with so flippantly. (No, you cannot have 4 nirn weapons at level 27 and 39). :# (Yes, that is how much a gold ring costs, there are FOUR gold platings. FOUR!)

Nowadays I craft for guildies only: green and blue mats free, CP 160 help out with the extra mats if you can, purple or gold mats you provide or pay for mine. Tip is appreciated. (Always thank the bus driver!)

Of course this can lead down some rough roads too. There was one guy in a guild who asked for a new set of training armour every day, sometimes a few times a day. Apparently, several other guildies had made him armour too. :/ That got old really quick.

True. It's not something that pays out because there are so many out there who will do it for free as long as they provide mats, probably because it's so easy to become a master crafter. Most don't even care what style you craft in because they cover it up with a costume or outfit anyway. Sorry, it's probably not what you want to hear but it's not the way I want the system to be either.

Full 9's, almost to master with the motifs, but I have to say that usually I no longer respond to crafting shouts, mainly for the myriad of reasons given above. The final straw for me was when I hooked up a newbie with blue gear for free, and after that he *expected* me to continue to do this as he leveled. I ended up ignoring him.
I really wonder if people think us crafters just hang out waiting anxiously for someone to ask us to craft for them as a freebie. Of course, we never want to actually play for the game we purchased and pay the sub for (could you actively craft without the craft bag? OMG, how many alts do you have?), and we take such great joy in donating our time to people that often can't be bothered to even say thanks.
Still, I'll occasionally still help out a newbie, although not a new alt. New player only.
Guildies, yeah, mats for 160 or nirnhoned, and as long as they don't want gold enchants, I'll usually toss that in as well. If they want purple or gold gear, I do ask for the temper (or rosin, etc) 'cause that isn't free.

No no, this is exactly the stuff I wanna hear! I already craft freebies here and there for training use but wasnt really sure what I would be getting myself in for if I started trying to craft actual sets for people.. and I had this niggling little voice going 'dooonnnntttt dooooo itttttt'

I think Ill just do what others have suggested and craft a few here and there with some decent traits and put them on the guild store :)

I don't charge but I do require the player to gather all the materials required. If they simply want to pay Gold I decline. I'm not running around buying materials for their items.

If the player cannot get their own materials then off they go.

I rarely do requests unless it's a guildie, but I craft and sell on the trader on the time.

Charge is free, the best things you can do is try and make DLC items at PvP or PvE desired traits and sell, and potions and some food. Once you find out what is selling corner a niche in your guild trader, and then sell mats to supplement.

    __________________________Backstories:_________________________

Ras Kalik the Vestige, a renown Redguard warrior; He has been blessed to save Tamriel from Molag Bal’s destructive Planemeld while reuniting the Five Companions. His further accomplishments after defeating Molag Bal, has been to stop the destruction of Morrowind, the Clockwork City, return order to the isle of Summerset and create a new king in Wrothgar and a queen in Elsywer. These events have made him a living legend and continue to lead him into new adventures throughout Tamriel, as well as into the hearts of many ladies including the Elf Queen, Aryenn. Over many years of adventurous travels, Ras Kalik had become a loner, until he re-visited his homeland of Alik'r.

Alik'r and it's cities were overrun by the undead Ra-Netu and therefore he made an allegiance with Alik'r's own Ash'abah tribe. These Ash'abah with his help, cleansed the city of Sentinel in Alik'r desert and it's surrounding areas of the undead brought to life by the Withered Hand. After rescuing Sentinel from the undead zombies, King Fahara’jad’s personal bodyguard the Goliath of Hammerfell, who was given this name by Imperials in the region; was asked to assist the tribe after learning of the defeat of the Withered Hand to the Ash'abah. Kalik promised Goliath he would task him with fighting living enemies on the battlefield if he so desired. Goliath being a Yokudan warrior wields a massive sword in respect to the Ansei, a gift given by the Imperial, Cinan Tharn. Not many soldiers are able to wield double two handed weapons, but Goliath loves to get up and personal in a fight, so he also carries a giant maul, both weapons laced with magical flames.

Jux Blackheart is a master thief that masquerades as a Bard at the Sisters of the Sands inn, with his younger sidekick Lucky Hunch for pilfering and gambling during this time. Jux was known to infiltrate any towns bank vault he came across and even delved into Ayelid ruins without detection. Kalik can vividly recall the night he met the famed thief. Jux found himself rummaging thru a slightly inebriated Kalik’s pocket for too long, on a full-mooned night and because of his greed and the glimmer of his golden armor in the moonlight. He lost his left pinky fingertip as a lesson! But in return, he gained a new friend, as it was his first time since a child being caught red-handed...

Upon arrival back in the Alik'r after many moons of adventuring, Ras Kalik ventures to Bergama. Visiting The Winking Jackal, he runs into Jux Blackheart, who introduces him to the coin game Crowns vs Forebearers (Heads vs Tails) and Golden Dwemer (RBG).... Jux constantly takes gold from the unfortunate thru theft or gambling, his biggest gambling victim is actually his partner in crime known as Lucky Hunch the Gambler. Lucky doesn't mind losing any gold coins to Jux... as Jux saved him from Altmer slavers in Summerset, by stealing a key and sending him on a boat to the mainland years prior. Lucky spent years in slavery with Khajiits in Summerset and picked up the art of subterfuge, using illusion magic disguises and stealing there.

Kaotik Von’Daemon an outcast, and a half-caste between a Breton mother and a Redguard father. Kaotik become a pariah due to his conjuration of Daedra pets. He was taught healing magic during his childhood years by his Breton mother. His father due to Redguard customs exiled him from the desert, sending him by wagon caravan to be a soldier in the war in Cyrodiil. He happened to meet Kalik while traveling from Alik'r, during this long caravan ride the caravan he was in was ambushed in Bangkorai by a group of bandits. Kalik by chance was also traveling thru this area on his Auridon Warhorse (which was bestowed to him by his friend, Darien Gautier). During this ambush, Kalik was able to rescue five hostages from the bandits. Kaotik was the first rescued, and Ras Kalik also recruited him to be in the Ash'abah tribe. These core Ash'abah tribesmen may never be seen together in travel as they partake in their own adventures but they always know what each other is doing; as they frequent a hideout in northern Bankorai. Their hideout an old Orc castle ruin, is kept watch by Nuzhimeh and she passes messages written between them, and frequently they also enjoy her company and her bed.

The other men rescued were a Dunmer banker, an Imperial mercenary and two other soldiers, an Imperial and a Breton Knight, stating proudly he was an Akavir descendent. One of the Imperials, Cinan, claimed to be related to Abnur Tharn the Battlemage of the Imperial Elder Council (One of Ras Kalik's mentors in the Five Companions). Cinan Tharn was really Abnur's drunkard treasure hunting illegitimate son. He was caught smuggling artifacts out of the Ayleid ruins in Cyrodiil and the elder of the two Imperials was Tyrus Septim a retired Imperial navy battle-mage (now a Lycan mercenary living in the city of Rimmen) and guard to the Tharn family. As much as Abnur Tharn hated his half-sister Euraxia, he dislikes his bas†ard son Cinan more. Tyrus now a ruffian and privateer had been paid by Abnur Tharn to watch over Cinan as much as possible. Cinan Tharn a drunkard, loves to drink at least a quarter barrel of Nord mead before he raids various delves and dungeons for relics to sell on the black market. Cinan also plans to one day, run an illegal gambling ring... which he thinks will net him more gold for his wares.

The Dunmer captive shackled to the Imperials looked familiar to Kalik from his time in Morrowind.... and he recognized him as Tythis Andromo a House Telvanni slave-owner and banker from Vvardenfell. During a rough interrogation to Tythis, Ras Kalik learnt why the bandits accosted him. The racist Dunmer was providing slaves as soldiers for the Three Banner War. The bandits were trying to negotiate a lucrative ransom for Andromo and the Imperials.... Kalik did not need any of this gold and he could never set Tythis free as he did with the two Imperial soldiers. His past involvement with slavery and war crimes, made Kalik's blood boil. He chose not to execute Tythis, as he figured the worse punishment for this former rich and opulent slave owner, is to now be an imprisoned servant for Ras Kalik and the tribe.

Herzog Zwei the Genesis a reknown Imperial/Akavirri battle-mage. His roots going back to Akavir through his mother’s bloodline. (His mother is descended from the Akaviri, through Versidue-Shae, and his Imperial father met her in Hakoshae, while traveling) Herzog earned the nickname "the Genesis" from his father as a child, as he was his mother's first born child, and last, as she tragically died in child-birth.

Herzog was seeking to purchase an artifact from Cinan Tharn, before their capture and was meeting Tyrus while in Rimmen, who introduced him to Cinan. This artifact being the Ayelid artifact; the sword Sinweaver. After their rescue and the exchange of gold to Cinan for the sword he decided to slip away before Ras Kalik could question who he was, and why the Akavir descendant really wanted that sword. Herzog was headed to Nagastani — An Ayleid ruin in eastern Cyrodiil. He had read in scrolls that the Sword would give him magical powers to meet his mothers spirit, if he performed an Ayleid ritual at an old shrine hidden there. Equipped with the artifact sword, he was off to start his own adventure but Ras Kalik, did indeed notice the sword however and instead sent a letter to Jux Blackheart (whom also was interested in Ayleid treasures), to attempt to find Herzog and acquire the sword. (*Azani Blackheart in Elder Scroll's Oblivion is Jux's descendant some 747 years later)

And so the Redguard, Imperial and Akaviri men parted ways ... While Ras Kalik went off to Elsweyr to encounter the latest threat to Tamriel, with Abnur Tharn and Sai Sahan - - DRAGONS!! Little did Ras Kalik know a few people were awaiting him in Senchal besides Sai. A necromancer survived his attack on the Withered Hand, while in Alik'r. The necromancer known as Auriek Siet'ka is also following him to the land of the Khajiits and Cacique the Sage of Ius a Shaman mystic who has become attuned spiritually with Tu'whacca (a Redguard God) and Ius (the Animal God), after being burned severely by the escaped dragons in Elsywer, is awaiting his arrival also. Aurik is a soldier of the Daggerfall Covenant that was introduced to necromancy while in the military, even though this magicka art is not spoken of openly by most of the Military leaders. He came to Alik'r and worked with the Withered Hand before Ras Kalik intervened on their plans. After the defeat of the Withered Hand, he aligned with the Worm Cult, and is constantly adapting and perfecting his necromantic arts.

After his journey to Rimmen, Kalik heads south to Senchal, in the southern regions of Elyswer. This new adventure will also put him on a path to meet a strange Redguard man. The stranger which was infected with an untreated Peyrite disease and also was the exiled from the Order of the New Moon cult, due to his sickness. He originally joined the cult to worship Laatvulon, the green dragon, mistakenly thinking it was the Daedric prince Peyrite. This confused and suffering cultist is known as Tsar al-Bomba and he is on a path to spread the disease. He was originally infected in Orccrest while recruiting members there. Can Ras Kalik and the shaman Cacique cure this poor soul, only time will tell. Little does Tsar al-Bomba know, that his infection is tied to Vampirism, and eventually the desire for blood will take over his mind. Senchal also offers Kalik his latest love interest... Aeliah. Whom he fondly led thru battles with the Dragonguard.

After the trek thru the heat, tropical and desert climate of Northern and Southern Elyswer, Ras Kalik heads north to the cold mountain range of Skyrim. His companion friend Lyris beckons for him with a letter sent by crow...

Movárth Piquine - a former vampire hunter (now infected), within the Fighter's Guild (and a secretive necromancer) was in Skyrim working with the Morthaal Guard. On a patrol mission he was caught in Frewien's ice curse outside of Morthaal with the frozen undead. Movárth's vampiric infection kept him from becoming an undead minion to the curse. He was able to use necromantic ice-magic to encase himself safely until he was freed with Freiwen, when the Vestige Ras Kalik broke the curse.

Uri Ice-Heart - brother of Urfon Ice-Heart. The twin sons of Atli and Oljourn Ice-Heart. The Ice-Heart family are originally from Markarth but now reside on the Jerall Mountain range near Cyrodiil, with their younger sister Araki. The twins had joined the Winterborn Reachmen while living in Markarth. Urfon pushed west to Orsinium with the Winterborn Clan, leaving his family behind. Uri stayed behind with his parents and sister to live in the family cabin for safety, avoiding the Vampire plague infiltrating the Reach. After news reaches him and he hears of Urfon's death... Uri leaves and heads home and is seeking vengeance. Meanwhile, his sister has also moved on to Windhelm to join the Fighter's guild. He will visit his sister, once before going to seek vengeance and she will craft him armor mixed with ice, called Stalhrim armor. Uri fearing death, after his brother's passing, falls victim to the convincing talk of Movárth at a Nordic tavern, and will also becomes a vampire.

Gosh, yes to @bluebird's comments. I get a lot of requests for crafting and then the interested party wants to spend an hour asking for build advice. Super frustrating. Then you've got the people who just don't understand crafting at all. I had someone ask me to craft them a hybrid tanking set: Swarm Mother, Undertaker, Hand of Mephala, and Stinging Slashes because that's what Reddit recommended. So then I had to spend additional time explaining, no I cannot craft any of that, to which then the obvious follow up was them wanting me to explain HOW to get those pieces.

I rarely craft for people anymore because, more often than not, it's more trouble and takes more way time and patience than I've got.
