Most of the time, crafters who ask for mats do so because they don't have the extra mats or they don't feel like busting out a calculator to figure out what they'll have to spend on your very specific list.Salvas_Aren wrote: »And there I stood, 1.5M gold and not a single ingot, with a crafter who was 100% sure to do me a favor. For guildies, all crafting is free if they provide mats. Low level stuff (e.g. training gear) even free completely since I have the mats. But I usually ask them to provide tempers if they want the armor improved.
If a stranger in zonechat asks for something, I might do it for free, but a lot less likely to spend my time crafting for strangers. Unless it's a starting zone and they're clearly a noob, then I usually send them a training set for free. But usually just green, cause again, I do need my tempers.
My issue is when people want you to craft, but don't know what... Happens way too often, especially with new players. And it gets sooo tiresome to explain to every single one of them over and over.
- Any crafter online?
- Sure, if you got mats. What do you need?
- A dps set.
- Okay, which set?
- A dps set.
- ...
- I need a crafted set please, anybody?
- Sure, if you got mats. What do you need?
- I need the Julianos set.
- Okay, what trait? Divines?
- Julianos.
- No, that's... *sigh* Sets are equipment that provide a special set bonus when worn with other pieces of that set. Traits are modifiers you can put on all equipment that give you a flat bonus. You can have sets like Julianos but together with specific traits, like Divines, and... *etc etc*
- Hey I need a crafted armor please!
- Sure, if you got mats. What do you need?
- A set for Sorcerer.
- Well... all right. Are you Stamina or Magicka?
- I'm a Sorcerer.
- ...
- Can someone craft me Hundings, Divines?
- Sure, if you got mats. Want 5 body pieces, or need weapons?
- Yeah, weapons would be nice.
- 2hander and bow? Or DW?
- Well, I was experimenting with this build that I found online and I do like bows but DW looks very cool too and my cousin died from a pool noodle attack when we were little so 2handers have a special significance to me too, but I'm worried about how it will fit in with my Nightblade which is the awesomest class ever isn't it really? Anyway, what do you recommend?
- ZzzZZzzzz...*snores*
So... tl;dr: When you ask for a crafter, please know your set, pieces, weight, traits and the airspeed velocity of an unladen swallow before you start bugging me.I'm a crafter, not your build advisor and ESO coach.
And that happened not once and not twice ...'5 pieces twice born, shoulders down, 5 pieces shackle breaker, rest of body, 511 medium if you dont mind, training purple for the armor, jewelry robust white, with enchantments that make sense. Weapon is not important, since I will get several new weapons, but a twohander and a bow level 16 would be nice, just in case.'
So 5 Twice-born shoulders down, medium pieces. The mat for the level 16 version will be Hide. Chest needs 8 Hide, Legs need 7, Boots 6, Gloves 6, Belt 6. But hold up they want 5 medium 1 heavy 1 light, so I'll make the Chest heavy and the Belt Light, so actually that's Legs for 7 Hide, Gloves for 6 Hide, Boots for 6 Hide. Belt will need Cloth, so that's 6 Flax. Let me move over to the Blacksmithing station, Chest will be 8 Steel Ingots. And they want it in Training so that's 5 Emeralds.
5 Pieces Shackle breaker rest of body and jewelry. Ok let me move over to the other set station. So. That's a medium head for 6 Hide, and shoulders for 6 Hide. Will need 2 Emeralds for Training. Let me move to the Jewelcrafting station. A level 16 Necklace will need 14 Pewter Ounces, and Ring needs 9, plus another Ring of course. Robust on all 3 will take 3 Zinc.
Weapons 'would be nice' but what set do they want it? Didn't say, I'll make it New Moon Acolyte since the rest of their gear is very hybrid too. A 2hander needs 6 Steel Ingots. Let me move to the Woodworking station. A bow will need 4 Sanded Oak. And since these are weapons the Training needs not Emerald but Carnelian, so 2 Carnelian.
Oh but they want it purple, so that will be 2 Honing Stone, 3 Dwarven Oil, 4 Grain Solvent for the 1 heavy armor, then (2 Hemming, 3 Embroidery, 4 Elegant Lining) times 6 for the 5 medium and 1 light. And they didn't mention upgrading the weapons, but that would be 2 Honing Stone, 3 Dwarven Oil, 4 Grain Solvent for the 2hander, and 2 Pitch, 3 Turpen, 4 Mastic for the bow.
And they want it enchanted too. 'Enchantments that make sense' what does that mean? All his sets are mixed stats. Do they want Tri-stat glyphs? Surely not on a level 16 set. I guess I'll make half the glyphs add max Stamina and half add max Magicka? Closest Glyph level is level 15, so that would be 7 Jejora, 7 Rekuta, and 4 Deni and 3 Makko for the armor glyphs let's say. For the jewelry glyphs I guess 3 Jejora, 3 Ta, and 1 Denima and 2 Makkoma. Or would they want 2 Taderi and 1 Makderi maybe? On a level 16 set? Who knows they didn't say. Oh and enchantments for the weapons too, maybe? 1 Jejora, 1 Okori, 1 Rekuta, and 1 Tade, 1 Deni, 1 Rekuta maybe?
It takes you the same amount of time to add up what materials you need for your crafting needs.
Hence, 'free if you bring your own mats'.
But crafters would have to figure out all those mats, then figure out how much they should charge you for their own mats based on current market prices, and then make sure they have everything otherwise they'd have to run around buying mats for you at guild traders (trying to find them in the exact quantity you need, no less) and then also remember how much they paid at each trader so they can charge you for it. Ain't nobody got time for all thatEspecially for low level sets, where the mats and amount needed varies based on level so we won't know it all automatically like cp160 which are a set cost.
Edit: Oh, and even if we do add all that up, and figure out all the material costs, and got everything we need, then we'll get the 'Awesome, thanks, can I pay you next week when I farm some stuff, bit low on gold at the moment'Yes.Bradyfjord wrote: »bluebird An African swallow or a European swallow?
Yes, a lot of crafters don't want your gold, they want the mats to make your request. If you do your research and have everything needed to make your armor/weapons, you'll get the crafts.

True. It's not something that pays out because there are so many out there who will do it for free as long as they provide mats, probably because it's so easy to become a master crafter. Most don't even care what style you craft in because they cover it up with a costume or outfit anyway. Sorry, it's probably not what you want to hear but it's not the way I want the system to be either.
