First of all your friends are either *** or total idiots.
1:They would have to have hundreds of accounts to hide that much gold.
2:They could make several hundred thousand dollars selling that gold to gold sellers.
However, if they are telling the truth:
I guarantee you that without a shadow of a doubt they will be caught only it will be far more painful after investing a lot more time with the game.
Step 1: check for people with huge amount of total gold of the same account - banned
Step 2: check for people with huge amount of gold on all accounts with the same IP - banned
Step 3: Check for people who spend a huge amount of gold over a small period of time --banned

These people always eventually get banned and need to find other ways of generating income. Right now ZOS may miss them, but eventually they get ferreted out.

You "think" they'll have a new tier? Craglorn is coming out with VR 12 stuff and in a few months if we get VR15+ all the legendary gear will be worse than greens.
