Yeah, I don't get the whole hate whisper thing. Sometimes things go your way and sometimes they don't. And more often than not I feel performance issues contribute to success and failure more than anything else. So like, why stress.

I've definitely gotten plenty of hate whispers though, if they are truly nasty, I just ignore them, usually I just respond in some bland way like 'ok' or legitimately answer them if they ask some snarky question. They often will say something about you being mad, and I just respond with 'uh, you whispered me lol' and suddenly they are quiet and maybe realized how they look. Sometimes it turns into a real conversation even, one guy hate whispered me b/c he was fighting me and I kept using the cheesy bow knock back (few patches ago when it was really bad) and I just agreed with him. Said I was wearing all divines because I was lazy and everytime he pushed in to pressure me I freaked out and would have probably melted without crutching on that skill. We talked for a few and I left him to the rss since the fight was stalemated.

I have whispered two enemy players in my years, both times was positive. One was years ago, a ganker that kept trying to get me in my tanky build over and over for months and finally got me and I had to compliment him about how patient he was at that moment, because it felt like he definitely waited for me to totally focus on something and let my guard down. We actually had a good laugh talking about the back and forth and became friends. Too bad this was back before one tamriel when we couldn't play together out of pvp.

The second one was recently. I was taking a resource and enemy player came running in and I was like, uh oh b/c I knew I'd be in trouble fighting him and all NPCs. He stood there and waited for me to clear NPCs and gave me a sec to get resources back before we started the fight. I was like so shocked he played cool. Then he wrecked me lol. I still had to send him a note to thank him for being cool. I felt bad for not giving him a better fight after that he did all that lol.

In the end, you'll encounter all sorts of fights, from zergs to solo to small groups in all variety of builds, some cheesy, some not. No use getting overly worked up about it. I say just ignore it and move on or try and turn it into a normal conversation and see how they react. The whole countering hate with love thing lol, sometimes it works.
