The Current State of ESO- In the perspective of a new palyer

So i started ESO a little over a week ago and so far i'm enjoying the game. The combat although different has grown on me. The PVE and questing is fun, but so far what I've been enjoying the most is my time PVPing in Cryodiil. I'm still only level 40 but even then it's still a lot of fun PVPing with different groups and participating in their discords (I've always enjoyed PVP the most in the different MMORPGs i've played).

I only have the base game + Marrowind, and I was thinking about getting ESO+. I was doing some research to see if it was worth subscribing and I was ultimately led to the forums... and boy does the community here paint a completely different picture of the state of ESO.

So the main complaints i keep seeing is server lag and server performance that will never get fixed... However, with my time playing I have not experienced this crippling, unplayable lag in cyrodiil. Sure I've had some spikes in ping and drop in FPS, but it was never to the point where it was unplayable (mind you i am on a NA PC server). Am I just lucky? or is this more of an issue for the EU servers and Console players? or is it because i'm not experienced enough to see the server lag?

Ultimately I am asking because I've been browsing the forums quite a bit the past few days, and sadly it makes me not want to subscribe, yet alone continue playing due to the fact that the developers does not care about PVP and its performance. Is all of this really true? or are you all just fake news :P.

A few questions for you, not to shame or discredit you but just so you look into those things to start understanding:
    - do you know what weaving is?
    - have you completed a trial at a high-ish end level and felt it was fluid and your abilities were going when you pressed your keys?
    - forget the trial, have you had a fluid experience on a simple Iron atronach?
    - have you played any form of PvP at a remotely competitive level

There are probably more questions to ask to try to get an idea of where you're really at but the Bottom-line is this:
    - for a game that prides itself with a fast-paced combat system and has challenging content, the performance does not allow for a good experience.

Progressing achievements can already be a challenge in 12 man content and more than half of your resets are going to be due to bad performance.

It's become to a point where everyone is superstitious and trying little things to se if they'll get a good instance in a particular trial.

We're serious when we say performance is bad. It is really bad.

I worry about the negativity on the forums scaring new players off, and hope they remember that !

Yes, this is my main concern about the forum. If Zos feels that the forum no longer provides a benefit to the game, ie it scares new players off, then they will either ban a bunch of people, or shut the whole thing down.

There's just too much drama here these days, although it has calmed down a little bit. The OP should have been here a month ago; it was getting really out of hand.

The forum is the best place to get a feel for how ZOS treats it's customers....so you do have a point in one regard. But that is a circular argument given how this forum is such a good way to get a feel for how ZOS treats it's customers.

Strict moderators aside, I think they're pretty reasonable in my experience. Every support experience I've had has been really positive.

I don't think the communication desert between ZOS and their customers is a reasonable or positive experience.

I don't think years of failing to address performance issues is a reasonable or positive experience.

...and then there is how things work on this forum.

When you look at the whole picture, you should look at the whole picture.

I don't disagree. I've been one to frequently and vocally call them out here. Just trying to find the silver lining!

in my opinion, most "New player experiences" are positive because they barely scrape the game. They a) zerg, b) don't really play, just quest and c) don't do anything requiring large groups or server pressure.

Give it a while and eventually you'll see this crippling lag and unplayable game state.

Quit before you fall further down the rabbit hole. This game isn't worth it.

I've posted about and reported multiple bugs, replied to threads for devs like the infinite loading screen thread of 2017... They're not fixed and they're now ignoring most of the posts with complaints. They've even been banning people on Twitch simply mentioning anything about performance, PvP, lag, Cyrodiil or vMA weapons. That had me thinking, why would I continue spending money on extra crowns on top of the subscription if they won't even answer questions and ban immediately instead? I guess $2k+ over the years on this game on cosmetics and nonsense items isn't good enough for ZOS. Just asking questions about the current product we purchased and the subscription service we are paying for. Their community managers could really do better at communicating like they promised a year ago. And discord has screenshots of things like devs responding snarky towards players. This sort of negative interaction is part of why the forums and their multiple social media profiles have lots of comments just full of complaints.

The game itself looks so good on paper. Especially for elder scrolls fans. Story time always works well. Overland I'll have some quest bugs, some lag or rendering problems but nothing as bad as end game instances. The voiced acting and story is okay but the combat is so boring with too easy fights for story completion.

Housing decoration works when you aren't parsing (because frames drop and it lags when you're in instance too long, making it harder to parse properly). PvE trials- I used to do hard modes and run leaderboard weeklies with multiple groups and let me tell you, long time raiders have been quitting because of the direction this game is going. PvP is the same. There's just the one that is the most active campaign 24/7 and it's so laggy the skills don't even go off. Try watching some streams at prime time or going there yourself. It's quite bad. The empty campaigns have better performance but they're relatively dead. Battlegrounds is solo only now and the group finder for it is still botked, just like regular dungeon group finder.

I've bought other people copies of this game, but 3 already quit and I am pretty sure I can't recommend it in its current state. They can fix the problems like they promised first. But it really looks more and more like they just don't respect old players' time with their new patches and nerfs. So there's not much point to investing effort or time

They don’t care about PvP because it’s free content handed out with the base game. They don’t gain anything by sinking money into fixing it. So their priority to fix PvP issues is really low on their list.

I just hit level 50 and its sad to see so many negative reviews about the state of the game. I have been playing the below level 50 cyrodiil server so perhaps that's why i haven't experienced much pvp lag.

I think I had my run with this game. I pretty much leveled 40-50 through BGs and it was a blast, but now since I'm no longer in the lower BG bracket I know I need to commit and gear up to compete again... sadly I don't think i'm ready to make that commitment after hearing everyone's warnings and experiences.

My favorite part of MMOs is the PVP. When I youtubed the pvp of ESO before starting it looked so fun... But it's sad how the pvp content is actually so limited.

You don't have to make that choice. I know quite a few people who enjoy below-50-PvP for a number of reasons (including server issues). They simply delete their character when it hits 50 and start over (passing the gear via the bank). You could use that workaround to keep playing if you've been having fun so far.

There's no need to quit the game just because of a few keyboard warriors on the forum. My advice is to have a good go at what you like, and if you enjoy it and it works, why leave?

The choice is yours. Don't let others here influence you.

I don’t whether it’s my fast internet connection, or my relatively powerful desktop computer, or the fact that I mostly play on the NA PC server, but I have had very few issues with the game’s performance. I do notice a slow-down when signing on with my laptop while traveling. And when I switch to the EU server, things are also a bit slower, presumably because it has a higher population and I’m farther from wherever that server is located.

I’ve been here for many years, and there’ve occasionally been patches that seemed to cause more bugs, glitches, and other problems, but nothing for me that’s been game-breaking. When I complain about something, it’s usually because the developers seem committed to making big, dramatic changes to gameplay and then ignoring the negative feedback. One gets less patient with that sort of thing when it keeps happening patch after patch after patch.

But I can still have plenty of fun playing ESO. If you’re enjoying it, I’d definitely keep playing. And if you can afford it, ESO plus is definitely worth it, for the infinite crafting bag alone.

This is an MMO and not a single player game. You really wondering about people complaining that actual MMO mechanics don't work?
