Started my Elder Scrolls journey with a Khajiit, and have always played Khajiit since. Most of my ESO characters are cats - because I'm a Crazy Cat Lady!

However, I have a high elf vampire who I've played alongside all the cats and I remake him in every TES game, and manage to make him recognisably very similar each time. He has been with me since the beginning. He was - and still is - my main model when I was making clothing for my Goth Shop mods. :)

    Morrowind - Altmer
    Oblivion - Altmer
    Skyrim - Altmer
ESO - started Altmer, have now characters of all races excerpt Imperial and Redguard.
    3 Altmer
    5 Dunmer
    3 Khajiit
    2 Breton
    1 Bosmer
    2 Argonians
    2 Nords

So i guess i shifted a bit more to Dunmer. Think because they are so versatile. And yes, their lore has been growing on me.

And so the Elder Scrolls foretold. You will be shy, and I will be bold.

Nice thread, it is very interesting to see what everyone's favorite race is now compared to when they first started playing. :)

we'd also like some performance fixes to cyrodill and the like. that would be brilliant.

Altmer, Bosmer, and Khajiit have always been my favorite. When ESO came out and they were in an alliance together I was thrilled. Still my same favorites. But in eso the Altmer have Summerset with its fancy graphics and furnishings. Same for the khajiit. But now the bosmer have only the base game assets and it blows.

I'd love to see a rework of the bosmer zones. Keep the quests and stories and same general build but give it all chapter quality graphics.

Or give me an aurbis zone with falinesti.

Back when I started playing TES, knowing nothing about the lore, I chose an Imperial. Charismatic diplomats, cosmopolitan traders, and good with the only weapon that doesn't make you look like either a brainless barbarian or some cheap cutthroat - swords. Sounded just like my cup of tea.
Playing the game, learning more about Morrowind, and how it used to function "on its own", I was happy about my choice.

Knowing more about the other races now, I instantly chose an Imperial again for Oblivion. I loved it ! Returning to serve my emperor one last time (albeit in another incarnation of my character), discovering just HOW important the Empire is for Tamriel (Dragonfires!), fighting in and for the true way the Empire should be, giving the Amulet of Kings to the true heir of Uriel Septim, and witnessing the Avatar of Akatosh fulfill his pact with my people. Just loved it !

Of course I played an Imperial again in Skyrim. And of course I sided with the Imperials. All the reason the Stormcloaks gave me for wanting "independence" was some wharbling that amounted to "I want to kill who I like when I like, and do as I like whenever the fancy strikes me to, and they won't let me ! And all the rest of Tamriel is stupid, anyway ! Oh, and Talos !" Gosh, grow up !

[...]Playing Nord in Skyrim is just a no-brainer. [...]
That's true. Because the average Nord has next to no brain. Or at least they don't like to use it very much. ;) Sorry, couldn't resist. I'm afraid Skyrim ruined most Nords for me, and ESO didn't help to improve that again.
I'm sure the whole Dovakhiin thing made slightly more sense when playing a Nord, but this one time TES failed in capturing my heart with their main story, so no loss there.

Then ESO came. I was seriously irritated that I had to create a character so I could get to the crown store to buy the Imperial edition to create the character I wanted to play. Maybe I missed something, but that seemed like the only way to me to get an Imperial ??
I'm sad to see the Empire in shambles, far from its ideal of being a (positively) unifying force for Tamriel. But meeting people like Varen, Abnur Tharn (astonished how many people don't get that character, aside from him being difficult to handle), Prefect Calo, General Renmus and so on, I know I'm still right where I belong.

Although... From Morrowind to Skyrim all the TES titles didn't give me much about the Khajiit besides "thieves, tricksters, and skooma".
I'd say ESOs greatest achievement - in my book - was fleshing out the culture of the Khajiit in such a glorious way that I now love them just as much as the Imperials.

But still, once the next TES game comes, and I'll have to choose once more the one hero that will save Tamriel, it will be a true Imperial.

PS: No, game mechanics don't matter to me. As it should be in any good TES game, but alas, ESO being an MMO I see why it is mentioned here and there.

Oi, made a text wall. Short:
    Morrowind: Imperial
    Oblivion: Imperial
    Skyrim: Imperial
    ESO: Imperial
    next one: Imperial

Nords when i started but when i played more and more in ESO and seeing ESOs version of Nords i got dissapointed.. They are just so silly, goofy and dont exactly fit in the image i got of Nords especially this far back in time..

Now it is Khajiits alongside Argonians which is the most well made races in the game both how they look (unlike other races they dont look like fortnite characters) and their provinces and overall lore

    Morrowind: Argonian
    Oblivion: Argonian
    Skyrim: Argonian
    Eso: Argonian

    Races ranked pre-eso.
    Argonian > dark elves > nords > Breton’s > Imperial > Wood elf > high elves > orcs > redguard > khajit

    Eso.
    Argonian > dark elves >sea elves > nords > high elves > imperial > Breton’s > khajit > wood elf > redguard > orcs

Forgot Zenimax might add them, but no lie sea elves have more interesting looks and culture than nords and it’s painful for me to say that. I love Nords but want to plat]y sea elf more. Khajiit could be higher but their fanbase can be a lil annoying.

Always liked half elves in D&D, so when I came to ES I went with Breton.

However the beast races have caught my attention with ESO, so now my plan once I change a couple more guys is to have 6 argonian tanks, 6 khajiit stam dds and 6 breton mag dds, that way I'll have an even amount of each of my three favorite races.

It was the khajiit then and it's still the khajiit now, but for different reasons. When I first played Morrowind (my first TES game) I was just intrigued by the khajiit and argonians because I'd only seen 1 other franchise with cat and lizard people as playable races, now I know more about their culture and personalities I have other reasons to like them (in addition to being cats).

I've changed my perspective on some of the other races too since I first played Morrowind. I think if I'd known then what I know now my first character might actually have been a wood elf or a breton, because they're a closer fit to the kind of characters I normally play in RPGs. But at the time the bretons seemed like the dullest humans going and high elves, dark elves and wood elves were a bit generic, the descriptions given didn't really make it clear how they're different to the typical fantasy interpretations and I'd gotten Morrowind to try something I'd heard was different to DnD.

Couldn't play anything but a Dunmer in Oblivion. Bought Skyrim, hated the way Dunmer looked in it and chose Altmer. I absolutely adored that character and fell in love with the race, and now in ESO the more I learn about Altmeri lore and culture, the more I love them. I love all Mer races, but Dunmer and Altmer will always be closest to my heart <3

No one race has fallen from grace from its original lore and pitch harder than Breton's. They were supposed to be the premier battle mage faction a mix of melee and magic and said to be one of the most powerful mage factions around. However looking at all the canonical appearances in older ES games and even ESO that claim is anything but.

Even the Nord's have produced stronger mages like Shalidor than Breton's and they have done more powerful stuff. If anything we always see the modern video game adaptions of Breton's being shown as knights and paladins who don't use magic but are great at fighting in melee. Not helping matters reach men are basically Barbarian breton's lol further lending credence to the fact they aren't casters anymore. Even their lands should look like a bit more magical than they do but nope generic completely boring medieval architecture nothing at all to suggest they have any sort of magical abilities.

I honestly wouldn't be surprised if in Redguard Bethesda updates the races abilities to reflect their actual depiction vs what lore says about them.

When I first started with Morrowind and Oblivion when I was like...5 years old, my favourite race was Argonian. I loooooved the idea of playing as a dragon/lizard and so my first Morrowind and Oblivion characters were Argonians.

Then the Skyrim promotional pictures came out and I LOVED how the new Khajiit models looked, so I made one as my first and longest playthrough.

As I've grown up though, and learned more about the deeper, weirder, c0da, Sermons, etc, lore I have grown to adore the Dark Elves, despite them being colossal meanies most of the time. So my main character in ESO and my current main playthroughs of the main Elder Scrolls games are all Dark Elves now, and more specifically headcannoned to be the same unfortunate Dark Elf, Invarus Raveren.

My favourite races are still Dark Elves, Khajiit and Argonians, though. But Dark Elves come up on top.
    Characters (PC-NA):
    • - Evaela Dralamont (Breton - Dragonknight)
    • - Daro'Nisha-Jhar (Khajiit - Nightblade)
    • - Invarus Raveren (Dark Elf - Sorcerer)
    • - Sindelacar Ancaril (High Elf - Templar)
    • - Jil-Meera (Argonian - Warden)
    • - Durgaz gro-Shorak (Orc - Necromancer)

Never played TES games, so in 2014 started from imperial, imagining imperials will be the knights of Holy Roman Empire..oh well, they were romans in sandals lol. Than moved to breton, but soon found about their magic affiction and mix with elves. So last 24 months nords and only nords. You can always make a knight from nord, but you cant make a viking from breton 😁
