What if Cadwell is The Vestige of an alternate reality...
Then they couldn't coexist in the same plane together or it would be a parallel paradox, making the world collapse in a giant antimatter bomb.

I am the very model of a scientist Salarian, I've studied species Turian, Asari, and Batarian.
I'm quite good at genetics (as a subset of biology) because I am an expert (which I know is a tautology).

This vestige hopes to quietly fade away in the corner of The Rosy Lion hearing the bard singing a song about a drunken khajiit of legend who lived a long time ago.

This one she hopes the bard is a good one as the Blade of the Woe is now little more than an old cheese knife

I am personally of the opinion that Meridia kept the soul of the vestige. Given the Vestige's power, and as a wily Daedric prince herself, I have a hard time seeing Meridia forfeiting a power asset like that. As such, I imagine that at some point in the Daedric war to come (as hinted by the prophet) Meridia leverages this asset.

I am also of the opinion that every player running around is an aspect of the same being which is the vestige. Due a a dragon break or whatever, each aspect is able to interact with other aspects depending on various conditions. As Asata pointed out, I would be willing to beleive that these aspects are shards of a larger shezzarine that collapse into the entity known as tiber septim (talos stormcloak, etc) at the end of the interregnum dragon break.
Somewhat interestingly, we could also be Lorkhan. These Skyshards are rumored to be fragments of the god Lorkhan.

"A shard of Aetherial magicka that carries the essence of Nirn. Some link them to Lorkhan, the missing god of creation."-Prophet

It does certainly seem curious that we've been absorbing shards of Lorkhan since the very start of the game.
I think being a Shezarrine (ie, avatar of Lorkhan) is quite likely. If I remember rightly, there is a theory that every TES hero is a Shezarrine.

At the end of Daggerfall, there was a dragon break, which split the timelines and crammed them all back together. In the chaos created by this, the Hero was erased from existence. Basically I think the same thing happened to the Vestige.
Yeah; essentially, they were killed. One of the endings sees the Agent activating the Mantella themself, after which, they are killed by Numidium. Since all the endings occurred, that one must have as well, meaning the Agent was killed during the Warp in the West.

It's not really clear what happens to the Vestige after they recover their soul. They're still made of Azure Plasm, but what happens to the Daedric animus that the body was imbued with? Does the soul boot it out? Are they co-inhabiting the body? Does resurrection still work after the soul is retrieved?

The Vestige certainly isn't immortal, as almost every Daedric NPC refers to them as "mortal". Unlike Dremora, who can reform spontaneously from Chaotic Creatia, the Vestige can only resurrect when there is sufficient Anuic energy to jump-start it (whether a soul gem or a wayshrine); they can't resurrect spontaneously.

Personally I think know there is still too much to come in ESO (what with the upcoming Daedra war) to speculate on the end of the Vestige, but a Daedric end is quite likely. Alternatively, maybe they will just go home and fade into obscurity, like the Eternal Champion.

Is it ever actually clear whether we reclaimed our soul at all? All we know if that Meridia pops us into the Colored Rooms, presents us with a vaguely soul looking image, we touch it, and bam, back to Coldharbor. Who is to say that Meridia kept our soul and just told us what we wanted to hear to maintain our cooperation? I would imagine given the mechanics of being made of azure plasma etc that reclaiming a soul would fundamentally change how the vestige physically recomposes themself. However, after the main questline ends, none of those mechanics change. We still need a soul gem or a way shrine as a catalyst to rematerialize, and more importantly, we can still resurrect in the first place. This is all conjecture of course, but the one other vestige we know of (Haskill) has his soul owned by sheo (Sorry, no source on that, but I am about 99% sure I remember Haskill mention this at some point).

Is The Vestige definitely immortal? I mean, I know that without a soul, he/she couldn't die properly, but we do get our soul back, so are we still immortal with our soul?
Your body is made of Azure Plasm, getting your soul back doesn't change the material you are made of.

Yes, I wondered if our bodies are indeed made of Azure Plasm and what that actually means. Like Dremora etc if we die, we will just keep reforming.
Yes and if you keep reforming then even if you aged you would just reform a young body if you were ever killed so therefor logic would dicate that the vestige is Immortal, Besides you already died at the start of the game.

I picture the end of the Vestige dying of old age.

    Then respawning at a wayshrine.

Then dying where he repawned because of old age.

    Then respawning at a wayshrine.

Then dying where he repawned because of old age.

But as I said above, all the Daedra call you mortal, and you don't reform like a daedra does because you need an Anuic focus to reform (soul gem or wayshrine), whereas they just reform directly from the waters of Oblivion.

Sorry for raising this thread from the dead, but I've read all the posts and haven't found another observation I'd like to share here for the sake of history. Let those who seek answers find this one too.

There is only one way to permanently kill a Soul Shriven or a Vestige like us: first a murderer has to kill us until we run out of soulgems. Second, he has to kill us once more to make that Soul Summons ability work, thus reviving us without any soulgems. Third, he has to destroy all our homes or some sort of an "Anuic beacon" in them that allows us to teleport to them. Fourth, a murderer has to extinguish fires or destroy all the wayshrines both in Tamriel and Oblivion. Maybe it is enough to deal with the wayshrines, because we all know the future of the 3rd Era - all the wayshrines (along with our houses) are either off like in Cyrodiil or destroyed like in Skyrim (well, except those several Falmeri wayshrines anchoring those specific Falmeri ghosts) and in Vvardenfell and there are no Soul Shriven left around neither in the streets, nor in the books or dialogues.

This makes me think something should have happened with those wayshrines, something really global like that, say, All Flags Navy event, but the same time kept in secret, because it seems the only way to destroy us - after we banish all those Daedra invaders back to Oblivion and destroy their plots, we, the Soul Shriven, are obviously the only real and the main threat to every political party in Tamriel be it the Tribunal, the Thalmor or the "United Kingdoms of Emerica". So some secret "Order of the Fire Extinguishers" could do the job. I presume the lore is still unwritten here, but the only logical way out is to use the wayshrines absent in the previous games and use it as an explanation by writing a story of how the Soul Shriven became "very bad" and were finally banished forever or of how we left for good due to some agreement. Well, that's details, so we'll leave it to the Scribes :). Absent wayshrines - this is the key!

I imagine if they become a vampire they will live out their life after the events of the game trying to help Lamae build her family. Although if they eventually do die it'd be by a violent end unless they somehow get cured.

I highly doubt their life is going to be good though. They made a lot of Daedric enemies.

Unrelated to the question, more to do with the statements in the OP. But the Hero of TES:II Daggerfall died. In the canonical ending to make a continuation for Morrowind, All optional endings happened at the same time, including the death of the Hero. This "ending" was contrived after the game was completed, so the reason you keep playing afterwards is just gameplay mechanics.

Also we never lost our soul because we have no soul. We are a soul, a living soul, made from the dust of the ground and the breath of life (metabolism, aka the ability to metabolize oxygen and consume and store energy). It is not possible to be inhabited by a soul when we are a soul. Nor is it possible to lose a soul. The story line is utter nonsense.
