These days we're overflowing with various subscriptions for everything, so I'm wondering, wouldn't it be possible for MMORPGs these days, like ESO, for example, to stop this type of payment?

Because if we look closely we have paid extensions, paid DLCs and a regularly renewed shop in addition to a crown box, wouldn't that be enough honestly?

For example there is Guild Wars that already uses this type of practice and it has no bar to take full advantage of it while yet a game far from being as well known or even marketing level and yet it works I think very well for them, an end to this practice would be a real relief for MMORPG players and if it happens could give a greater positive image to Elder Scrolls Online and especially given the performance of servers I do not think this idea is as excessive as that.

So, yes it could lose the monthly wreaths, but tell you this, if the monthly subscription is removed it would allow a monthly wreath purchase anyway and other ideas could be possible with the daily connection gifts at the end of me, although not the most important ones in my opinion, or other ideas to add wreaths in the purchase of extensions.

The removal of the subscription would be the death of this game.

It is already quite optional, so I'm not really sure what this post is about as it's a completely optional sub that provides the devs with a steady stream of money.

In a way chapters are indirectly included in ESO+ as well - you just have to wait for them to become a DLC. And if there is extra content like a class, you can buy it with the subscription crowns as well as housing in these areas. So if you are not dependent on having to immediately play a chapter (eventually because all your guild mates are playing there), it is well included with ESO+, just not immediately.

I think that in terms of bang for your buck, ESO is actually shockingly cheap. The average game will cost you 40-60 bucks and gives you let's say, 40 hours of entertainment (and 40 hours is usually considered a long game in most genres, some action games are more like 10 hours). Now I bet most people who are playing ESO have definitely played longer than 40 hours.

Even with a sub, long term games like MMO's are actually great entertainment value for money spent.

Hmmm no idea what your actual point or agenda is here

The game is already playable with no subscription. You can buy it for $5 and play it for years without paying another cent.

It’s almost as if you’re saying ZOS should only be allowed to make a certain amount of money after which everything should be given away to freeloaders

Cos obvs you should get everything you want for nothing...

I don't think that removing subscriptions is the way to go. What is the way to go is to make the sub non-coercive (don't hold hostage the inventory), and treat chapters as the glorified DLCs that they are by including them in the sub.

The reason for this is, there are a lot of DLCs out there, and it would be cheaper for those just starting out to have a sub rather than buy all the DLCs individually, but if they know they have access to all of the game, they are more likely to stay longer. And they would also get the crowns that they can later use to actually buy the DLCs, while simultaneously getting the boost to allow them to get through such content quicker (the exp boost etc).

Also keep adding DLCs older than 2-3 years to the base game. That way the barrier to entry will remain the same instead of becoming prohibitively expensive for people who prefer the B2P model and join late. This would make the "buy to play" claim honest, because the way it is now, it's just an attempt at extortion for subs.

I'd prefer to sub to play game with sub to play economy and performance. Too bad ESO offers freemiun mobile economy and f2p performance for sub.

This. I really wish the amount of wallet chasing this game does reflected in its quality.

We are talking about 40 cents/day here or less for ESO+ - prohibitively expensive is kind of a very weird way to put it. If someone stubbornly insists on "owning" all DLCs and chapters then so be it - but it won't be cheaper and it will be much less convenient to play all of it.

I recently made a post about 'who cancelled their eso+'.

I don't think it will go F2P unless the majority of you stop buying virtual 'goodies' or subscribing.

The game is riddled with problems and our EU server does not reflect the monetary investment EU players have implemented over the years. It's a wonder consumer protection isn't or hasn't been made aware of ZOS's business practices.

I dont see why they should. I'm more than hapyp to pay £8.99 a month for free crowns, discounts, and all the dlc's. if you, your self dont like it, just dont buy it.

They make money with subscriptions, why would they stop?

The trend is toward subscriptions, in personal and business. Why would they go against that?

What I hate is having to spend enough for a new game every so often. That is far more annoying. WoW had the same problem.

Free to Play games invariably turn into Pay to Win games, so no thanks.
