If light and heavy attacks depleted resources that would likely achieve the goal the developers have

Think about it for a moment. When you swing a baseball bat in real life, it uses energy, when you swing a tennis racket it expends energy. Running expends energy, so does sprinting; just like in Elder Scrolls Online.

Why wouldn't stamina be utilized when your character was heavy or light attacking? Does running give you back energy? Does boxing, playing baseball, all of the above, give you back energy? No, it does not. It depletes your energy and makes you tired.

If light attacks used resources it would revert the weaving meta almost instantly. Why even light attack you might ask? Well, the cost benefit could be found in skills. Skills that enhance your light attack damage could allow you to use light attacks for a greater damage yield than the cost. This would make them somewhat essential. Also, the resource cost could be minute and be something you do use as you are restoring resources.

Resource restoration could be achieved by somewhat tweaking sustain to pre morrowind style but not as extreme.

Thoughts?

You could use stamina to account for removing those stubborn tops from potions

Knowledge knows this is not real life. This is a fantasy game. Comparing how things work in real life makes no sense.

Further, it is pretty common in MMORPGs to have a basic attack that does a little less damage than normal skills but costs no resources. So even in the context of MMORPGs what is being suggested does not make sense. A little more knowledge for you.

Yes, let's have realistic physics in a game where dragons are real and we can teleport large distances by waving our hands around for a few seconds.
    PC/NA - Mayflower, Hellfire Dominion

Dro-m'Athra Destroyer - Divayth Fyr's Coadjutor - Voice of Reason - Gryphon Heart - The Unchained - Extinguisher of Flames

Tank - Healer - DPS (all classes, all specs)

When first playing ESO I found the resource handling bizarre.

Traditionally a heavy attack trades some stamina/endurance/energy stat for damage, this is across many game genres.
Also dodge rolling uses stamina, jumping does not. Bracing, i.e. blocking uses stamina when it normally not energy intensive.

But yeah its a game and over time they all have their own oddness.

If they make light attacks do only minor damage pretty much mirroring an old school MMORPG auto attack then it should not eat stamina.

They could decide on another mechanic like x auto attacks in a row does something new and then uses some stamina. They are adding a mechanic like that on WW pounce, two consecutive pounces adds Carnage, a bleed.

Do you want to remove one issue and create more in its place? Everything is balanced around a low base regen rate, if every attack and action costs resources the base regen would need to be higher. If you run out of resources you literally have to wait until you have the resources to do something again.

And how would tanks be able to restore resources? A lot of blocking means very low stam regen and the only ways to restore stam is by drinking a potion (long cooldown), casting skills that use magicka (not easy for every class) or dropping block and wait for stam regen to kick in.

ESO needs to be less complicated and more intuitive so I would choose for resource return on all normal attacks, mainly to make combat more practical for less experienced players. A small amount resource return for LA scaling up to a large amount for HA. Reducing LA damage by 30% would be acceptable, buffing MA and HA damage to reduce the skill gap also makes sense.

Why do all the People that want light attack weaving removed have no idea About everything that light attacks do?
    Politeness is respecting others.
Courage is doing what is fair.
Modesty is speaking of oneself without vanity.
Self control is keeping calm even when anger rises.
Sincerity is expressing oneself without concealing ones thoughts.
    Honor is keeping ones word.

Running doesn't expend energy in eso though, only sprinting does. (Just to be clear: I think the game refers to the standard jogging animation as running, unless I'm mistaken)

If it did cost stamina that would certainly reduce APM since everyone is in constant motion in combat (especially in pvp). But let's not give them any ideas  .

Imagine trying to justify radical balance changes by comparing ESO to irl lol.

If these go through I need an irl Undo ult.
