Horse speed upgrades

When it says speed upgrade, is it the normal running speed of the horse or the sprinting speed when I press "shift" and move?

    Upgrading speed is how fast your horse goes when sprinting I believe, stamina is how long you can sprint for, and weight is for how much your horse can carry.

    Stamina also lets you take more hits while mounted before you get thrown off your horse.

    oh ok, so it determines the speed of the horse's sprinting, not the regular gallop

    No. It affects both. You won't really see much of a difference until 30% or so, but it affects both.
