vamp eso vs skyrim. clarification

So in skyrim you could contract vampirism from the world encounters or get vampire lord from harkon

in eso it seems you can contract it from the world encounters BUT you don't REALLY have it unless you go top the shrine and read the scroll and go into the tomb and drink the whatever and defane the symbols and submit to hersoever.... is that right? You cant really develop it like by contracting it and not do all the inane ritual stuff for the blood scion?

Please clarify...

if you get it from npcs or another player's bite, you'll have to do the quests, yes.

Quest is mandatory, you can get vampirism from NPCs, players and crown store.

Have anyone actually got it from npc in recent year? Since those have very limited spawn and are spawnfarmed to extinction by bots/certain guilds.

What I have seen all have gotten it from other players or store.

Yeah I think this is one thing where gameplay mechanic overshadows lore. The only way for a player character to become a vampire is to specifically become a Blood Scion. If we ignore gameplay mechanics, our character should technically be able to gain vampirism just from the bite alone, Lamae or no Lamae.

@Thokri Both me and my friend got our first bites from NPCs, but that was over a year ago now I think. Every time I check, it's werewolves rather than bloodfiends. But I've also found player bites to just be easier, so I only check once in a while out of curiosity.

If you buy Vampirism from the crown store you don't do the quest. You get the skill line immediately. It's what I have done a couple of times when RP'ing it as a "gift" direct from daddy Molag. After arriving in the cell in the Wailing Prison I buy the skill line for my new character, and they're a Stage 1 Vamp before they have even moved.

crown store again....ugh psijic, vamp.... trying to role play this pacifist who contracts vampirism but stays true to their ideals, except in eso you cant contract it unless you REALLY REALLY want it....

    Different types of vampirism.

In Skyrim you contract Sanguinare Vampiris.

In ESO the vampirism strain is Noxiphilic Sanguivoria

    Skyrim Vampires:
Children of Volkihar tribe who got their "curse" by Molag Bal directly.

    Elderscrolls Online Vampires:
Children of Lamae Bal, aka Lamae's Bloodline (in other words the original vampires pretty much)

But if you listen to the story of Lamae Bal and of Seranna (Volkihar) They are so very similar. And why did she take his last name if she despises Molag so much?

I have gotten ww from npc recently and I think it should be possible with vamp too, I dont think anyone really wastes their time anymore hunting spawns to deny others. Since it is really easy to get it for free from other players. But keep in mind the npc don't spawn every night so it can be a waste of time searching for them.
Ask in Rift, Bankorai, Reapers March for a bite... or just go afk at the vamp shrine in Rift and chances are you will be infected when you return.

It's unclear why she took the name Bal but if I had to guess, i think it's because after the events that transpired before and after Molag Bal had his way with her. She then took the name of the person who she hated the most as a constant reminder of the events she went through.

As for why Valerica and co didn't change their last name. It's prob because they didn't hate Molag Bal, instead they pretty much worshiped him before hand and since she was already a lover to Harkon, she more then likely just fell back on her attachments to her loved ones after being turned into one by Molag Bal instead of focusing on what she went through to become one, like Lamae did. Since you know, they went through the process willingly unlike Lamae who went through the worst process to become one if you ask me. .

One of my characters got vampirism from an NPC last September. There were werewolf spawns around too. It was a hassle for me to find them, because an in-game day is about 6 hours so often the night didn't line up conviniently with when I was able to play, there was a lot of checking as soon as I got home or staying up to check. But I wasn't in a hurry to get it done and wanted to try finding them, so it was worth it to me.

I didn't see anyone farming the spawns when I was looking (Reaper's March, PC EU) but I did encounter a few people who didn't know there were wild spawns that could infect you, or claimed they'd all been removed from the game when it was added to the crown store. (There was also one person who repeatedly claimed it had never been available from NPCs, only from the crown store or from people who bought it in the crown store...but he was selling bites so I suspect he knew that wasn't true and was just trying to protect his market.)

There were also lots of people offering free bites, which I suspect is the main reason the wild ones are more rarely sought out. Every time I asked in zone chat if anyone had seen them I was either offered a bite or advice on how to find one. :)
