I think Crown Gems should be a log in reward.

As the title says.
A lot of the log in rewards are... not very appealing. XP scrolls are okay and tri-pots are at least transiently useful. However, research scrolls are only useful if you need them, whilst poisons, food, drink and the odd 2k AP are not that great at all. Pets and cosmetics are nice though (especially unique ones). A lot of people decon their log in rewards as soon as they get them.

Crown gems. They are a valuable, non-tradeable currency that is worthwhile, even in small amounts. Having gems be a log in reward would be much better, even if each daily log in rewarded a very small amount.

With crown gems, you could choose to buy those XP scrolls, research scrolls, pots, food, whatever you like. However, if you have an eye on something bigger, you could save up. This is something that I think would definitely encourage more people to log in daily, it is an investment. Even if there are no gem items you want now, there might be in the future. I suppose it also has the handy side-effect of nudging people towards the crown store.

They used to give us Crown Gems indirectly in from of Crown Crates as log in rewards.
They're clearly not interested in giving that away for free anymore because enough people are buying them anyway.

Ironically, the only time I ever bought a Crate was while they were doing that. Never before. Never since.

Free Gems getting me within reach of something I wanted was the only thing that ever made me able to justify to myself taking part in the gamble program.

Same here tbh. I've been sitting on nearly 200 crown gems for many months now. I keep going "I'll never get these back. So whatever I buy gotta be really worth it."

Whereas before I would buy some when I got close to when I wanted something because I figured I could always get more.

Mate, Crown Gems are a total abhorrence. They should not exist, much less be used as daily reward bribes.

They require players to purchase overpriced gamble boxes and redeem the rubbish they find inside for a currency that is utterly valueless, has no connection to reality and which then is used to overcharge players for cosmetic items.

If ZOS didn’t want to aggressively exploit players, gems (and their other sub-currencies) would not exist and they would sell the fluff for actual money so players would know how much items cost. Instead they use multiple pseudo-currencies to camouflage the true cost of items.

I’m all for players buying whatever cosmetic items they want.

    I’m all against exploitative pseudo-currencies.

    F**** gems.

Pls, no. I'm afraid even to guess what would happen if everyone would get regular free gems, but I'm sure that gem-exclusive mounts would look like a fine deal in comparison

@FierceSam in a perfect world, the crown store would not exist at all and everything that is obtained from it would be earnable in-game. Sadly, we do not live in a perfect world, so I thought this would be one of the better ways to make the most out of what we have.

I was really irritated to see several motifs available for only gem purchase. Most were older motifs but still. I needed to finish up ancient orc. Drops are just abysmal from wrothgar public dungeons and guild traders want enormous amounts per page atm. I would have bought it with crowns but no. I need to buy a pack of 15 crown crates to get enough gems to buy it. This is not good.

I’m perfectly happy with a pay store for cosmetics, although I would like more of the items to also be available for ingame gold. If someone wants to spend their money on a new mount every months, that’s great.

What I find utterly objectionable is for goods to be locked behind a gambling wall or obfuscated so much that their actual real world cost is deliberately hidden from purchasers.

In terms of rewards (whether daily, event, or in game), I would dearly love to see a substantial increase in both imagination and generosity from ZOS. It’s a shame to introduce the outfit system and not reward players with additional outfit slots which would undoubtedly encourage its use for example.

I think this is a great idea! In fact it would mimic a couple other MMO login rewards from other games i've played. It seems to be much more popular to just give players a type of currency they can use for whatever they want as a log in reward. You like pets? Crown gems. You like scrolls and potions? Crown gems. Costumes or motifs? Crown gems. You can't be unhappy with the rewards in the end because you can choose now.

Also let's be real, they aren't going to get rid of gems and gamble crates anytime soon. So if you hate this idea just because you hate that gems exist, it's not a very strong argument on your part. Now if you hate that this could be incentive for people to buy crates to get the last few gems they need before a crown season? Then yeah I can see why the move would be frustrating.

I could also see people being mad that they spent money on crates for gems and now gems are given out freely. This is easy to remedy in my opinion though. Just as OP stated, make the gem amount small. No one is gonna get an apex mount from this in a month or even several months. Even if they gave us a gem everyday it would still take over a year.

Good luck with that. Pretty sure Zos will balk this idea.

Also, if you do not find the current items worth logging in for then do not log in. It is that simple. Show Zos how you feel about the rewards they offer in a manner that counts.

As long as Crates exist, Crown Gems are an aspect of postive customer support - think back to before f2p games did anything like the Gems - when you got a duplicate item (or in games without such things, just total common crap), that was it. You had nothing.

So the companies came up with the idea of putting a "consolation currency" in the boxes. Even if you never got anything but total crap from the actual drops, you'd eventually be able to get something better with the consolation currency.

Don't like Crates with Gems? You'd like Crates without Gems even less. Because they'd be even more of a "ha! screw the customer!"

edit: but, yeah. Not going to add them to daily rewards. They got rid of free crates, and added "gem exclusive" gem-sink items, because there were too many gems floating around in circulation. Directly adding more to the economy via a daily reward would be defeating the purpose.

Gamble crates are a total abhorrence.

They are designed specifically to prey on the weak and overcharge them for useless consumables. Any support for them is morally offensive.

I’m all for ZOS selling cosmetics. Put a price on them and sell em.

But f**** gems and f**** crates

I think making crown gems for free is the only fair alternative.

Back when they added in the crown store with the promise of there will be nothing in the crown store that the players cannot get in game. Or items (such as scrolls and potions) will be inferior to what players can make. There are a few skins, many mounts, and other items which break this promise ZOS made to us. The remedy would be giving us a chance to earn enough gems by logging on; or actually making the mounts, skins, and other items achievable by playing the game.

I can believe this. As someone who does not buy crown crates, I did enjoy getting the free ones. I can see that some people complained about getting something for free. I would not be surprised if some of the same people complained that the current rewards were uninspiring.

You can still get them via twitch but the log in ones stopped shortly after ppl flooded the forums with complaints on how zos is trying to get them addicted. Remember we live in a world where ADULTS need a company to hold their hand because they can't control their addiction.

I'd think that's the very reason they added them in the first place, so we wouldn't move on. I dunno, for some of us it takes a little more motivation to log in on a daily basis to do the exact same tasks that we've been doing for years now.

It doesn't matter the tasks, if you've been playing for years you've done or at least tried everything so no need to suggest trying this or trying that to spice things up.

Now that I think of it I was just about to quit playing on a daily basis before they introduced the dailies with crates and haven't logged in on a regular basis since they stopped.
