They used to give us Crown Gems indirectly in from of Crown Crates as log in rewards.
They're clearly not interested in giving that away for free anymore because enough people are buying them anyway.

Ironically, the only time I ever bought a Crate was while they were doing that. Never before. Never since.
Free Gems getting me within reach of something I wanted was the only thing that ever made me able to justify to myself taking part in the gamble program.
Mate, Crown Gems are a total abhorrence. They should not exist, much less be used as daily reward bribes.
They require players to purchase overpriced gamble boxes and redeem the rubbish they find inside for a currency that is utterly valueless, has no connection to reality and which then is used to overcharge players for cosmetic items.
If ZOS didn’t want to aggressively exploit players, gems (and their other sub-currencies) would not exist and they would sell the fluff for actual money so players would know how much items cost. Instead they use multiple pseudo-currencies to camouflage the true cost of items.
I’m all for players buying whatever cosmetic items they want.
I’m all against exploitative pseudo-currencies.
F**** gems.

As long as Crates exist, Crown Gems are an aspect of postive customer support - think back to before f2p games did anything like the Gems - when you got a duplicate item (or in games without such things, just total common crap), that was it. You had nothing.
So the companies came up with the idea of putting a "consolation currency" in the boxes. Even if you never got anything but total crap from the actual drops, you'd eventually be able to get something better with the consolation currency.
Don't like Crates with Gems? You'd like Crates without Gems even less. Because they'd be even more of a "ha! screw the customer!"
edit: but, yeah. Not going to add them to daily rewards. They got rid of free crates, and added "gem exclusive" gem-sink items, because there were too many gems floating around in circulation. Directly adding more to the economy via a daily reward would be defeating the purpose.

A lot of the log in rewards are... not very appealing. XP scrolls are okay and tri-pots are at least transiently useful. However, research scrolls are only useful if you need them, whilst poisons, food, drink and the odd 2k AP are not that great at all. Pets and cosmetics are nice though (especially unique ones). A lot of people decon their log in rewards as soon as they get them.
Crown gems. They are a valuable, non-tradeable currency that is worthwhile, even in small amounts. Having gems be a log in reward would be much better, even if each daily log in rewarded a very small amount.
With crown gems, you could choose to buy those XP scrolls, research scrolls, pots, food, whatever you like. However, if you have an eye on something bigger, you could save up. This is something that I think would definitely encourage more people to log in daily, it is an investment. Even if there are no gem items you want now, there might be in the future. I suppose it also has the handy side-effect of nudging people towards the crown store.

If you remember tons of ppl complained claiming that zos is trying to get them addicted so zos did away with the free crates

If a game needs to give you something for you to log in, it might be time to move on.
