Anything being done about out of control Gold Sellers?

I noticed that one name was slightly different and managed to ignore him, so my ignore list ain't full. I still keep seeing the same names though. I know they're now using slight variations on each name, but I still should be able to ignore them if they're different...but I can't...so they must be the same name.

It's not a big deal once I move back out of Glenumbra, but I shouldn;t have to put up with spam like this in a mainstream subscription based MMO.

I've played many MMOs. I started with EQ back in 2003 and have played at least another 6 or 7 since then. I've never seen gold spam this bad! Not in any MMO I've played. I've seen gold spam in both channels and mail, yes, but in ESO it is something else.

Why does the game not filter this crap out?

C'mon Zeni, get with the bloody act.

Idk, the gold spam with FF XIV and Atlantica online were horrendous.

Also in general with this thread

Today, we made our first major strike against those who choose to cheat in ESO, permanently banning thousands. This is only the beginning of our ongoing efforts to keep the game free from botters, speed hackers, and gold spammers. We want to thank everyone who has sent in-game reports about these individuals in ESO—your reports helped us identify many of the accounts we banned today. Please continue to report any botters, gold spammers, and speed hackers you see in-game, and we’ll continue our efforts to keep them out of Tamriel.

This was back on the 9th, but they *are* responding to reports.
Please try not to think I'm hostile, I'm not trying to be. I just have a hard time wording things with tact >_<.

Unfortunately I do not see them ever going away, especially with some of the programing choices that have been made such as the global bank.

On the bright side I have not noticed them once I had left the starting zone. Although every time I go back to glenumbra I am surprised at the amount of spam.

You shouldn't be wasting slots on your ignore list. When you report them for spam, the ban-hammer swings relatively quickly, and then they jump on a new account. There is no point wasting an ignore on a throwaway account. Save it for the "WoW is better," trolls.

Gold sellers are out of control, I feel like all the reporting I do does nothing. 5 more pop up the next day with their incessant spam. The worst part is that they multi-box and camp dungeon bosses, making it really tough to get any loot at all most of the time, I'm sure many people already know this. It is so obvious they are farmers with their random letter "names" or Chinese names. Are Zenimax going to do anything about it? It doesn't feel like they are to be honest and its getting increasingly frustrating.

No they aren't doing anything at all...

The simplest option would be for Zenimax to sell in-game currency for real money. (GW2 and EVE Online do this, maybe other games.)

It would put all the gold sellers out of business immediately.

Of course, they'd have to implement some gold sink to balance the inflow of new wealth.
Today's main: Hits Like Wet Noodle, Argonian Templar, Ebonheart Pact

.. and stop calling me "Vestige!"

I really just don't see "it'll probably never go away" as good enough to be frank. We all pay 15 a month and I view keeping gold sellers in line and keeping a clean community as part of the fee. I will wait a while, I understand the solution is probably easier said then done but its very concerning the spam and bots is the worse I've ever seen in an MMO and I've played all the major ones. Please Zenimax, it really kills immersion seeing these idiot bots everywhere hopefully you find a solution that is effective.

Question for ZOS is how efficient is it really for someone to go through tons and tons of retrospective report tickets??? Really, I suggest having an GM toon would be so much better and a lot of player problems resolved in game. Also extremely good PR worth it's weight in gold which what you so desperately need now.

If you stop and think about what you are asking, you will realize that they would need a few hundred "GM toons" logged into the game in order to even attempt that.

When you are in the game you see a small narrow portion of the game, but it is still pretty busy. It is easy to get fooled into thinking that you are seeing everything. If they opened up the Devon's Watch zone to every player that was actually in Devon's Watch at the same time you were, the Zone chat would likely fly by so fast that you wouldn't be able to read it.

I have no idea what the exact numbers are like, but when the server is busy, in some of the lower level areas there could be several thousand players in the same location as you and there might be dozens of different Zone chats just for that area.

Shall we play with some made up numbers? Say that there are one million people in the game and that no single player will ever see more than 200 of them at the same time due to zone phasing. Neither of these numbers is completely unreasonable. This makes for a minimum of 5000 different phases with 5000 different zone chats, if zone chat and player phasing are locked together. Given that not everyone is standing in the same spot and may not be in an area that has 200 people using it, there could be more than 5000. This is not 5000 over the day, or over the evening, but at every moment that there are 1,000,000 people online.

How many people do you want Zenimax to hire so they can stand there next to you and listen to Zone chat?

If you want to stop at this point and contemplate how many gold (edit) spammers there need to be in the game just so that you have a good chance to see even one of them, I will understand.

Once you realize the SCALE of the gold seller spam problem you will realize that banning them is not only a never ending problem, it is not even on the same planet as a solution. Yet, they have to do it.

I'm not sure what the problem is.

When the game first released, sure... they were everywhere. But this passed week, I really can't recall seeing a single Gold Seller in Zone chat. And no, I don't have an add-on that blocks them.

I'll get maybe 1 email a day from them, but... I mean all I have to do is press X, once, and that's it.

I have been reporting the ones I see in zone chat, as well as the mailers, but how has one persistent mailer still spamming me after a week? I suggest ZOS take a leaf out of Arenanet's book and crack down hard on them, I am seriously beginning to wonder if ZOS have any idea how to run an AAA MMO

I report 2-3 people per day, which is all of them. I never ignore them and I very rarely see them again. I deal exclusively with mail and guild invite spammers.

2-3 per day = all of them ?? I report about 6 per day before I get fed up with the process ... and there are at least another half dozen that I could report if I was not fed up.

There is a really good add on that blocks all of their spam 100%. It's even available through Curse Gaming and the Curse Client if you aren't comfortable installing mods yourself or have trouble trusting the source you download the mods from.

Curse Gaming is pretty good at verifying the add ons are safe to use before they add them to their library.

Sounds good, but why does not Zenimax have this sort of add-on in their game if its that simple?!

There are 2 primary reason I see to make the spam filter an add on.

    1. No two players will agree 100% on what exactly is defined as spam. Some players will only think the gold sellers are spam, while others will think the players selling items are spam. Neither is wrong, even when they disagree because spam is a fairly ambiguous term that will have different meanings for different players. If ZOS implemented the spam filter in the back end of the game it would most likely need to be implemented in such a way that would allow players to define spam uniquely to avoid the messages in the chat that they believe are spam. While this wouldn't be terribly difficult to implement, this solution leads me to reason number two.
    2. A spam filter that is an add on runs on the player's local client pc rather than on the game's server. Any implementation of a spam filter in the back end of the game client that could be done by ZOS would require an instance of the spam filter to be running on the server for every single player that is logged in. This would likely cause a huge impact on the performance of the servers and vastly increase the number of servers necessary in order to deliver a reliable and accessible product (the game) to players with as little lag as possible. By keep the spam filter as an add on though, this moves the spam filter off of their servers and onto our personal computers, where there are vastly more resources available to parse the chat window without causing game or server lag that would impact the gaming experiences of every single player that is logged into the game.

A spam filter add on basically allows ZOS to better serve their customers because it allows the player to customize their personal spam filter however they see fit, while also managing ZOS resources responsibly while leveraging the resources of the player's personal computer as much as possible. :)

Seems like a fairly sound business strategy to me.

OK so last night i was one for about 4 hours... maybe five. the chat was pretty bad with spammers. Reporting doesn't feel like it is helping but i thought back to a week ago when i couldn't even see the other players. So they are doing something. But i still stand with the having in game Moderators. the farming bots are getting bad but it will help the curve move in the right way. and adding in game purchases for gold? that would kill the game. I have not nor will i ever use real money to buy money in a game!
