Congratulations ZOS. You have managed to do something that most game companies have to really try to achieve. You have managed to aggravate frustrate and annoy most of your customers with a single patch. This may be the worse rollout of a patch in history.

1) You tell everyone they have to re download your excessively massive game.Likely could have been done by you developing a compression tool instead of making us download the entire game again.
2) You tell them that they have to wait until patch day to re download a massive game because you have never heard of the following: ISO files, compression tools, encryption tools.
3) You dont bother to update the steam version of the game. So when someone goes uninstall the steam version to download the latest version, it STILL downloads the old version and then makes you update to the new version with a 52GB patch, which is why the game was uninstalled because not everyone has 1TB of harddrive space to deal with your amateur patch rollout. So i spent all day downloading the game on steam only to be told i dont have enough storage space to download the game size patch which i SHOULD HAVE BEEN DOWNLOADING IN THE FIRST PLACE. So i wasted an entire day of download only to end up where i started because you guys really suck at technical stuff. Tell a great story and make pretty scenery but when it comes to technical know how, there are kids in my local elementary school that can teach you a few things. I imagine those that dont use steam and have limited storage space will have the same issue.

This has been a terrible roll out that was poorly thought out. What if i was one of the the people that had to spend days downloading this game again. I would have flipped an effing table. Or worse yet the one that is going to get a fat internet bill this month because they went way over their limit or had to buy a lot more data? You managed to crack an anvil with a rubber mallet. Good job. Its not that hard to remove an old download file and put up a new one. In fact this whole process should have been much easier on everyone. We should of only needed to d/l a installer file today that uninstalls the current game completely, opens an encrypted compressed ISO or similar file and installs a pre downloaded new version of the game that we all had 30 days to download.

But like always ZOS does what is easiest for ZOS and is inconsiderate of their customers.

I am going to go play internet spaceships on EVE, Ill check back in a week to see if you guy got your *** together. maybe you devs should join me in internet spaceships. Meet the devs, who dont hide behind an PR department, and they can teach you a few things about how to run an MMO.

Peace

Probably listen to the steam community boards that a very surprising amount say to uninstall and reinstall and completely buried any one who said other wise with troll banter.

The equivalent of "To get better connection speeds in game press Alt+F4!" and actually doing it and being angry at ZoS for pressing Alt+F4.

He means when you install steam version from 0 it doesn't download the current patch, so you always have to download +40GB of patches, essentially downloading the game again.

You are. I have to uninstall the game and do a complete fresh install as opposed to update the game because the patch file is far to big to fit on my storage device. I dont have room for the original ESO folder size PLUS a 50 GB patch size PLUS the room needed to extract and clean up. I anticipated this.

So i did an uninstall off the bat deleting the old version of the game. I should have downloaded the new version of the game. HOWEVER, ZOS has no clue how to operate an MMO and didnt update the game version you download from steam. So i downloaded the old version of the game that i just uninstalled so that i could patch it with a 50 gb file which is where i was this morning.

The problem being ZOS makes you download the old version for a fresh install and then patch it to the never version instead of just letting you download the new version. The entire way they did this is completely amateurish.

    They are saying that:

    1. They uninstalled the game, because they knew they did not have room to install the re-download, on top of the existing version of the game, on their drive.
    2. They then went to download the re-download, on Steam, but the download turned out to be the existing (or previous, at this point) version of the game; not the re-download.
    3. Steam then informed them that they had to install the re-download, in order to play the game.
    4. They couldn't do that, as they do not have room to install the re-download, on top of the existing (or previous) version of the game, on their drive.

My biggest gripe with the patch is that it is at least the 2nd time in a row for me they chose to drop a huge patch during an event where you have a limited time to get the tickets and items they buy before they get removed.

I don't think it is like some have suggested that they do it on purpose to get you to buy the tickets you miss if you don't end up with enough, just because I know it would cost them far more in lost customer confidence and cumulative frustration than the pittance they would gain by annoying people like that just to sell a few more tickets. No professional company would ever actually do that, they can afford to hire people that like warn them about stuff like that. :p

Still it DOES feel bad to miss out on tickets due to downloading huge mandatory patches. *stares at modem* O.O

Lmao. You didn't read his post fully. Yes, you are correct, no one told us to uninstall it first but alot of ppl have potato pc and let's say 20-30gig free disk space. How the hell are you supposed to let it patch itself if patch size is 60gig?
To OP, instead of uninstalling you could've just deleted some large folders/files from eso folder. Leave launcher, it still works even if some game files are missing, and then let it patch.

    Really?

The fuss is because most game companies spread huge patches over at least a month and allow prepatching instead of dumping it all at once in a massive blob that not everyone can easily download. Most of the people wouldn't even have a problem if the game would update properly instead of redownloading a lot of unnecessary files it will delete later or completely bug out.

Lastly, if someone has sub running and they can't get the game to work because it won't patch properly, exactly why should they not be angry or disatisfied about it?

Isn't an event also running? Perfect time for a massive patch :D

One of the many reasons I dont use Steam.
My download was done in a few hours and that is with crappy internet in the Rockie Mountains.
No reason to uninstall. Not sure the problem... :)

I opted to uninstall. I begin my download at 7pm est (primetime as it gets). Game was up and running in 40 minutes or so. Other than PVP crashes, acknowledged issue by ZOS, game is running significantly better. Just my experience. Patch day is never a smooth experience across the board.

Reinstalling a game like this really isnt that big a deal. We didnt even need to do it. Personally, I do it every 6-12 months or so anyway.

I also redownloaded the entire game on steam, only to realise I still had to do the extra 52gig in the launcher  130 gig download for me today, and it took 8 hours just to download the first 80 gig, and now only 16% complete on the launcher

Because the whole 'old steam version' of the game was still on the harddrive taking up room their was no room on a hardrive to update the new 50gig. When i tried to download the 50gig I got told no room on my hardrive, the only thing on my SSD is ESO, so to make room I had to delete the game to make room, just redowload the entire game.

No, but the fact that he went to all the trouble to uninstall, before going to Steam to re-download, only to find he had reinstalled the same old version he had just uninstalled and so, was back to square one, must have been a complete nightmare.

    That shouldn't happen, should it?

If you have uninstalled the game, or don't have it installed in the first place, it should only download the new version.

Not the old one and then (and only then!) the new one (and only if you have room for both!).

Defeats the whole purpose of uninstalling, to make room.

Also, what about new players who may have had to download both, before they could play, as well?

It's bad enough installing the game normally, in the UK at least, without having to do it twice..

It was said that you should NOT undelete the game before download of the new version !! The starting point of the launcher was the existence of the 'old' version of the software; it's not illogical, because wat is better than having to do nothing at all before redownloading the game ?
I started the launcher, it began downloading automatically and exactly 4 hours later I could play. Some people could play after 1 hour, some after 7 hours; of course, it all depends on the bandwidth of your internet connection.

You have to have room (temporarily) for both the original game and the re-download to coexist on your hard drive (and probably a bit more on top of that, as well).

You can uninstall first and then re-download, to try to avoid this - but, according to the OP, you can't do that if you go through Steam, currently.

As they will just make you download the old version of the game and then tell you to add the re-download, on top of that. ><

Yep same thing happened to me. I ended up delted the entire game of steam, and redownloading It was 130gig total download... Easo was taking up over 150gig on my 200gig SSD so I only just didn't have enough room.
