Do you fall out of love with your main?

Abandoning old toons and starting new ones preventing you from completing all content on one character?

When you start a new one does the continuity/completionist in you demand that you start them from the beginning of the story, preventing you from ever completing DLC let alone completing it all on one character?

Looking for kindred souls to commiserate with.

No. I fall out of love for the game altogether. My main feels useless to play thx to the sweet class direction ZOS picked, but I love her all the same.

Not really a problem for me. My character exists as numerous classes/specs, and the only reason for that is to combat the urge to rage quit when skills I enjoy get needlessly nerfed - which happens with infuriating frequency.

That said, I find each stage of the game questing sequence enjoyable in its own right - with some preference for the early basic alliance zone questlines. One version of my character is 'current' with all zones. The other versions are each at their own stage along the same path. I don't get tired of any of them but sometimes one or more of them may need to take a break until the stupid nerf cycle circles back to favor them.

Yeah, it kinda sucks to have to sign in and sign out on multiple characters to get a feel for how much of the game I’ve completed. I gave up on it along time ago. It really would be nice if they’d consolidate some of these, except for maybe the major dungeon and trial complete achievements.

i always love and will love my main ki'rah. sadly as a NB she gets hit with more nerfs then i care to count. Honestly i wish people would stop complaining about "nerf this and that" and start going with "buff this and that" so all skills can be on a somewhat even playing field.

Yes, it happens when ZOS screws up balance or ruins my fun in other ways like making my sneaky Bosmer Warden not sneaky anymore by removing stealth from Bosmer racials. Then I don't have as much fun on the character anymore and play something else.
This Bosmer was tortured to death. There is nothing left to be done.

Kinda inevitably, my 'main' (IE: first) character became my dedicated crafter & had to put so many skill points into crafting that it because a pain to respec him for a specific combat role.. so I made alts & found out that I love having lots of alts :D

No, not really. I love my main and while I do love my other characters as well, I only quest and achievement hunt on my main because I don't like to do the same quests over and over. If zos made achievements account wide I'd start splitting things up as some quests really make no sense for my main, like she never would of joined the brotherhood, but in the interest of completion, I just look past it.

    Not really, no.

    I'm more of a stubborn, non-completionist, lol.

I will tend to stick with a class/race/build I like, however sub-par it may be, in the hope they will realise and improve it.

In terms of content, I will also ignore stuff I don't approve of.

Sorry, you feel this way, though.

I don't fall out of love with my main, I always go back to him, but I do fall out of love with what keeps being done to him. Every time I get him so I feel semi-competent they nerf him and I have to change everything. I'm just not someone who enjoys that, that isn't fun for me. And with carpal tunnel getting worse and worse, making it MORE difficult for me to stick with a comfortable rotation and not panic into button-mashing is really off-putting. So I take breaks from my main and then come back when I stop caring about doing content. Right now it's so difficult to keep up with DPS that I just switched to my tank and made him my substitute main. Sigh.

This is me. I have made or deleted who knows, 40-50 characters - level 48 is my highest class I have, my most recent Stamden which I like but I wanted to try out Magden. One of these days I'll get a CP.

I make and play additional characters but I keep and play my main too. I have 7 characters in ESO, all doing different things and when I log in I just pick whichever one I feel like playing today. It does slow down my main character completing stuff of course, but I'm not in a hurry and I enjoy the game more when I can do a variety of things. Especially when one character gets to Coldharbour, I get so sick of everything looking so dull and identical, it's nice to switch to someone else and go through a different map for a while.

    Yes and no.

No, i did the base game, all crafting professions, and some DLC with one character.

Then I started being an altoholic. I started doing vet content with my warden healer, did my first tanking with a DK tank, now i am in Pvp with a magwarden. For most PvE content I will use my magnecro now. I did all Elsweyr quests with him.

So right now, I have different toons that I use for different content.

It was a chore to level all 18 characters, most are on retirement now, apart from a few as stated above.
And so the Elder Scrolls foretold. You will be shy, and I will be bold.

I have 18 characters. Yes I have fallen in and out of love with numerous characters over the years. Sometimes I main one or two for a few weeks/months, then sometimes I change to another for a while. So at any given time I tend to be focused on one that I am enjoying.

However, no, I do not start at the "beginning" with each character.

I have 3 characters, each from a different alliance, who have each more or less completed all the base game story, quests, side quests (and guilds), for their alliance. Each has completed some of the DLC content, mainly the earlier DLC, but not much of the newer DLCs because by then I had kind of stopped my completionist approach to game play.

There are some exceptions to the above, so I have an Argonian who is busy completing Mirkmire. A Khajit who is completing the Elswyr. A Dunmer who is busy completing Vvardenfel. And one of my mains mentioned earlier is an Altmer who has completed Summerset.

    THE POINT=
In this way, I have more or less covered most of the story/quest content, at least once. I HATE having to do story content/quests that I have already done several times, it is boring and monotonous. So I dont, hence the approach outlined above. The exception is the guilds, which often require to be completed again, but even then it is not really something I focus on now.

So beyond this, most of my characters now take very little part in any story/questing, and are instead almost entirely focused on dungeons, trials, delvs and/or PVP.

I have never fallen out of love with my main who is a Bosmer Warden. She began as a Bosmer Templar, but I recreated her as a Warden when they came out (that hurt, and I still have never gotten all the achievements back) because she would have been that if Wardens were available at the game's beginning. I don't play her much anymore as I have other toons that need skill lines leveled up and such, but she is still my main in my heart.

No, my character fluff is however.

I will never ever do TG or DB with my goody-two-greaves characters as that is for criminals. Some alts will do TG, but draw a line at murdering, some might murder, but wouldn't bother with mere burglary... and a few will happily do both if they feel like it!

I will never do Psijic with my stamina characters, as that is for mystics. Not sure if I will go there with my mystic necromancer, seeing how much of a immersion-nope that would be... on the other hand, she -could- fluff-wise have been a psijic and then got thrown out for necromancing, so there is that...

I only ever do Vampire/Werewolf on characters that it makes sense for, and for most of mine it wouldn't, so I leave it to specialized alts.

My Argonian is way too much of a dragon-fangirl to ever do elsweyr stories... so that I will almost certainly take a pass on her too when I get to that point.

...and I am sure there will be other DLCs where I will "opt out" with an alt of mine for backstory reasons...

I tend to start all my alts "from the beginning", as otherwise the perfectionist in me sees the storyline as broken. And I tend to do cadwells with all of them. Other then that... I make my choices what I play based on character fluff...

I don't complete all content with a single character, simply because it doesn't fit the personality. Like for example making a dedicated wizard into a thief and stuff like this. Doesn't mean, I'm no longer calling it main.

I don't remember when I fell out of love with Eve, my templar main.

She is my crafter. She knows almost all of the motifs. She has most of the recipes and is a crafter of furniture. She has most waypoints and is maxxed out on horse stuff/bag stuff/etc.

She is the partner to my husband's main, and together we are collecting all of the skyshards, trying to do every single quest in each zone, collect the fish and knock through every achievement we can.

I *hate* the templar class. No idea why or when it happened.

I would love the option to class swap; maybe with ridiculous parameters: you must already have a max character of that type to swap to/you start back at level 1 (retaining everything else on that character).

I have another character that I prefer, but she is not a completionist and the idea of trying to catch her up to where my husband's character is, is daunting.

My main is an Altmer magsorc tank nowadays, dps is much better and more fun on other classes that I dont bother with that anymore. I still do dailies on my main but thats a bit annoying because my dmg output is pretty low with tank oriented attributes, morphs and CP.

Magsorc dps never have been strong in PVE terms, its the most basic rotation you can think off and sustain is terrible.
