Like the title says. If you were to write a grand story about ESO, then what would be the final fate of your main character.

Mine came to a sorry end.

He's a crafting slave and ticket gigolo.

Sorc was just the least unappealing of the original classes in a game which shouldn't have classes at all.

I'm now undecided about whether to main warden who thematically I mostly like (apart from the two thirds of a class and a random 1/3rd of TES's destruction school), but mechanically largely hate (apart from the bear!), or necromancer who I thematically don't care for at all but who are mechanically really solid, except for lack of perma pet, especially tank.

Seeing that the Vestige is basically immortal now.

Now this brings up a reaction that I had the very first time that I "finished" the quest. I have a whole lot of headcannon about the fact that "the Vestige" (who is singular and plural simultaneously) can only use wayshrines because of the lack of soul - that this in some ways makes "Him" "them" "us" functionally like Daedra who never die, but come back as "themselves".

So I thought, that it would make sense if once my character had his soul restored, he would again be mortal. No more wayshrines, no more "return via soul gems" and that eventually he would die. It was sort of bittersweet.

So as this was playing out I realized that he would be okay with that. Settle down with his beloved wife, and have a farm, and do some fishing.

I think that might actually have been part of the impetus of my purchase of the "gentlemer farmer" outfit.

Tenesi Faryon of Telvanni - Dunmer Sorceress who deliberately sought sacrifice into Cold Harbor to rescue her beloved.
Hisa Ni Caemaire - Altmer Sorceress, member of the Order Draconis and Adept of the House of Dibella.
Broken Branch Toothmaul - goblin (for my goblin characters, I use either orsimer or bosmer templates) Templar, member of the Order Draconis and persistently unskilled pickpocket
Mol gro Durga - Orsimer Socerer/Battlemage who died the first time when the Nibenay Valley chapterhouse of the Order Draconis was destroyed, then went back to Cold Harbor to rescue his second/partner who was still captive. He overestimated his resistance to the hopelessness of Oblivion, about to give up, and looked up to see the golden glow of atherius surrounding a beautiful young woman who extended her hand to him and said "I can help you". He carried Fianna Kingsley out of Cold Harbor on his shoulder. He carried Alvard Stower under one arm. He also irritated the Prophet who had intended the portal for only Mol and Lyris.
    ***
Order Draconis - well c'mon there has to be some explanation for all those dragon tattoos.
House of Dibella - If you have ever seen or read "Memoirs of a Geisha" that's just the beginning...
Nibenay Valley Chapterhouse - Where now stands only desolate ground and a dolmen there once was a thriving community supporting one of the major chapterhouses of the Order Draconis

The vestige never dies, always gets ressurected but she does age. I think when she gets old and frail, can't hold her weapons any more, she will sit in her rocking chair drinking ale and reading all the lore books she collected, alone.... because all her friends and allies passed away....

More likely, at the point when ZOS the universe stops giving her adventures to pursue, she'll sort of drift off somewhere, either continuing her wandering around Tamriel or, if she's sufficiently world-weary, maybe retiring to her simple life back home.

Always remember. the elder scrolls universe is endless. endless possibilities in endless realitites.

True, but Ilsabet's story follows the game canon pretty closely, so much of what will happen is out of my/her hands. I'm not sure she's the type to break reality to get what she wants, although it would be interesting to see her get to that point. :D

i know its a poor excuse and explain. (as some other told me before.) But for example the "Vestige" is a quantum superposition being. his state exist in multiple realities in multiple form. He she can be anything , can do anything.but always a vestige with the same role. just different path

mine is probably going to get careless, or slowed with age and injuries and die pretty much same as she lived.. while on assassination writ. she should have retired long before that happened, but she's been an assasin and a thief for so long, she cannot imagine not being one.

secondary main is a scholar who will eventually end up joining moth priests, going blind and dying of old age - also as she lived. surrounded by knowledge.

Hlaalu merchant will likely get assassinated by the same Telvani family that was responsible for my merchant's entire family's death. she was the only survivor because she happened to be on a buying trip, and just stayed there, but eventually she went back to her family's properties and inheritance, got on a radar (I don't know what other word to use, sorry) of her family's murderers, and got "cleaned up" as loose end.

I haven't thought much about the rest of my alts. I mean.. nord warden will most likely die surrounded by her family, with her cider operation being moderately successful enough to keep her family supported even after she's gone. no idea whom she has children with, probably some nice nord boy she meets that appreciates her cider better then mead.

    no idea about the rest.

I'm quite sure that my Dunmer mage will die in an accident.

What happens after that... is an interesting question. He's part of the Andrethi family which has an ancestral tomb near Balmora, but it doesn't seem to be used anymore. Ah well, he hasn't had contact with them for some time, and I doubt they'd like to take care of his remains after all that happening anyway...

What happens to his soul? Maybe he'll be reborn? As a nix hound? Or a vvardvark? Do these, being magically produced creatures, even have souls?

Based on typical events and quests during Elder Scrolls games, I sort of have this head-canon, "final fate," or afterlife for my character:

Having accepted the blessings and becoming the champion of many Daedric and Aedric gods alike, my character's soul would not be claimable by any god in particular into their service in the afterlife. The forces of Anu and Padomay argue over who has the right of ownership, and so it is agreed that my character cannot be claimed and that he be granted a certain degree of autonomy and be allowed to explore the infinite planes of existence (afterlife) within his power to do so.

On an unrelated note, I loved what happened to our character in the Shivering Isles during the events of Oblivion and how it actually fits into canon during the events of Skyrim. That was some great lore/story stuff with a nice twist.

I actually have almost a book written about my first main (Sha'ira N'gola, Redguard Warden). This is because she was born in Skyrim (though her name there was Siara N'gola), and her adventures began with a flood in her very small village in Hammerfell. She migrated to Skyrim, found some family members who lived over the flood as well as she did, married, bore children, and (using the Clockwork Castle mod) collected all the war orphans she could find in Skyrim, moving them to the Castle to be cared for by her "metal monsters" (the two remnant dwemer inhabiting the Castle).

She isn't sure what happened to her, that she wound up in an era so many centuries previous to her prior existence. She doesn't actually have real memories of her life in Skyrim.... but she gets disturbing flashes, which cause her much anxiety.

She will age gracefully but knows she will not die. And she knows that in a few centuries, she will meet the love of her life, and that, as with Ouroboros....

I barely started the first of my characters' stories, so I'm not sure how it's gonna end yet. He's a Pact Orc (Skyrim born and bred, raised in Riverwood), so I assume he'll just end up going back home once it's all over. He seems like the kind of guy who'd want to be a hero, and then go home after it was done. But I may have him do the Season of the Dragon too, so I don't know if he'll be involved with them. Maybe even he'll go up with the Greybeards since he's a Dragonknight... I need to see where his story will take him.

The others...they don't even exist yet, so I have no idea where their stories are going. But I tell ya, writing them is loads of fun. I'm well over 170 pages for Gar, and he's basically halfway through Mournhold in the Pact line so far...

Can't wait to get to the others, but I only have snippets of their backstories so far - the Skaal who ends up fighting for the Covenant and becomes a werewolf, the half-Maormer Wood Elf who hates himself more than everyone else and ends up as one of the Eyes of the Queen, the Altmer mage who leaves alliances behind and devotes herself to the guild before being swept up in a bunch of Daedric intrigue...

My Stamplar Daedra/Vampire/Werewolf hunter mercenary will eventually die a heroic death saving lives from an army of nasties.

My necromancer (mag) will probably become a lich someday.
Playing your character the way your character should play is all that matters. Play as well as you can but never betray the character. Doing so would make playing an mmoRPG pointless.

I've actually never written them down before. Sure I had my headcanons, but I never took the time to write them. But now, this is such a fun way to play the characters, and it's fun to see them evolve with time.

That's one of the main reasons I can't wait to get to my alts. I've planned out pretty well every aspect of my main's life, but I've let the others' backstories just develop on their own. I'm really interested to see where they all will end up.

My necromancer will continue doing what he always does for at least the next couple hundred years. Wandering Nirn, seeking out any treasures or bits of magical knowledge he can get his hands on, and then traveling back to his home in Black Marsh to study whatever he has found and add it to his vast collection.

My nightblade will probably settle down and find a peaceful place to live away from other people, coming out only when his vampiric urges require him to feed. As he doesn't like to hurt innocents, he will mainly seek out criminals for his meals, and those who willingly give blood.

My sorcerer eventually becomes a teacher of magic. He is well respected, and many come to learn from him. One day a spell goes very, very wrong, and then he's gone. No one really knows where he went, if he died, or if he even still exists after that point.

My templar will most likely retire from adventuring after a while, instead dedicating his time to healing the sick and injured of his tribe. After many years, he dies peacefully of old age and returns to the hist.

I've got a few more characters, but I haven't decided enough of their personalities and backstories to know their fates.

My main character had a far longer backstory, than what the game describes. He was walking between the hundreds of worlds seeking a way to restore his shattered soul as a death knight. When he entered the Nirn he had no idea what he is walking into. Manimarco talked him into a ritual, that would let him have audience with Molag Bal who he promised to know a lot about souls, and the creation of life.

This ritual was a sacrifice in reality which is how he ended up in the prison. He studied the place a bit, and worked on a spell to escape when he got rescued.

After the Planemeld ended Meridia gave what's left of his soul, and offered her help to restore it fully, but until then he had to remain on the Nirn, and act as her servant. Our hero told Meridia, that he will not serve him until his soul is restored. He was scammed way too many times already.

In the end he managed to make a deal with Azura, that led him to a new lead. Another world away from Mundus where a goddess of death was suffering. And he left the Nirn for centuries to restore his soul elsewhere.
