So what location do you think will be next years main focus?

This year we are getting western Skyrim. Solitude, Morthal and then the Reach area not to mention the content that is underground. I suspect strongly we will be seeing areas of Cyrodiil that are not pvp zones and those areas of Cyrodill that are not part of the Pvp will be the storyline focus locations of next year.

Here is why I think its going to be Cyrodiil. Elswyer Started it all out the new focus on the Five Companions. We got Cadwell and Abnurr Tharn, Sai Sahan and now a full year with Lyris. Now that leaves one more we haven't got back yet. The Prophet that is if the Voice actor is able to do it. I think would be the final companion to make a return and go full circle. Since Lyris is going to be in Skryim for the Entire Year. We might be able to see a year long storyline involving the Prophet. Now given the voice actors memory issues I read about that caused him to retire from Theater. I don't know if that can happen. But I do think Zenimax might try to bring him back if they are able.

Now the storyline and the big bad is any guess as it could be anything but I do think the areas will heavily go into the Colovian and Nibenese Cultures and motifs. The chapter might be in placed in the Nibenay Valley and Black Wood areas while the forth quarter Dlc could be in the Colivian estates. Given they can't do Chorrol because its part of the pvp zone. So the Colovian estates will likely be a smaller zone. Bravil and Leyawiin could easily fit for a chapter mold since they can do the entire portion of the bottom map of Cyrodiil.

https://en.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Nibenay_Valley
https://en.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Blackwood.
https://en.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Colovia#The_Colovian_Estates

Since we got Khajiit land, now new Skyrim Stuff. I think a full year of Imperial love would be great.
If they do add in Skingrad, Bravil and Leyawiin. I do hope they also will go out of their way to overhaul the pvp cyrodiil map fix the position of the Imperial city make it more screen accurate for one. Another maybe redoing the zone to look like there is a war going on. While also making it more like Oblivion Cyrodiil maybe adding in Doomstones. With unique pvp buffs.

Making the landscape match better and other stuff they don't have to over do it but well it would be nice if they can fix it up. Make it look Cyrodiilish and make various locals more accurate to their Elder Scrolls 4 Oblivion look. Renaming Cropsford so it doesn't have the same name as the planned name for the town being built there in Elder Scrolls 4 Oblivion. Adding walls to Chorrol making it look less like some town on top of a volcano. Revamping the quests in Chorrol and other areas that need it to account for the changes.

So many things they can do with Cyrodiil.
If I'm right we might be seeing a Cyrodiil Focus but I also hope they revamp the pvp portions. Not just add new areas too it and be done but actually go out of their way and revamp it to be Cyrodiil.

So what are your thoughts? Where do you think they are taking us next year? Do you think like I do that its going to be imperial focused or do you think it will be some other location?

Why ? You think they dont have a whole team working on the next year's content. Most of this year's is probably finished and waiting for pts. They dont just start at the beginning of the year to make new content. That would be an insane deadline that could never be met.

    No one knows of course.

But I would like a blackmarsh as a group area like craglorn. A real dangerous place where the longer you wander away from safe zones the more dangerous it gets until the jungle eats you and your team.

Well part of me wants to return to cyrodil, like they did with morrowind chapter but I doubt that because it is designated pvp zone.

Can't see any logical way to undo current cyrodil, because a lot players (include me) like siege style mass pvp.

I would not mind if there just would be "year/s later" portal that took to questing cyrodil but I guess it would get a lot negative feedback because it would break immersion (as if current cyrodil is lore friendly :D ).

I wouldn't mind if cyrodil-style pvp was just on some other plane as "playground" that daedric princes set up for factions to compete and gain favor/resources. Or join daedric princes and just be part of their fighting team as they wage war against each other.

I'd love to see some actual Imperial content for once. The Imperials have gotten the shaft throughout the entire lifespan of ESO. You have to pay to play as an Imperial, the Imperials are seen as the badguys because you're attacking them in all three alliances, the only non-DLC zone they got is in the pvp area and the only DLC zone they get is focused mostly on the Dark Brotherhood. So yeah, I'd love to see the Imperials get some love at some point.

Yeah a lot of this content is built way ahead of time they hold onto it and maybe might redo something or modify it later. They do it this way so they have something to release later. Murkmire was going to be a zone more like Craglorn. It was also going to introduce spell crafting before they canned it from what I recall. So it was held back for quite a long time.

    https://en.uesp.net/wiki/Online:Murkmire
Murkmire was originally announced as a 4-player Adventure Zone similar to Craglorn, prior to Tamriel Unlimited, but was reworked into a DLC story zone.
This zone was originally intended to be located in western Black Marsh, just south of Shadowfen, and include the city of Gideon—as made clear by both official and datamined pre-release information. This version of the zone had three geographic regions consisting of swampland in the north, uplands in the center, and bogs in the south. It was at some point decided that the zone should be moved to southernmost Black Marsh instead, with a different geographic composition.

If they still continue this practice they might have a lot of stuff ready to be released one day. We just might not know about it yet or they could be tinkering with it or waiting for the right moment to release.
But I do think that is what they do over there, they prepare this stuff far ahead of its time. I do think this is the case with the vampire lord. As people did know it was in their files since at least 2017 or maybe sooner.

So the vampire overhaul might have been in the works for a while but because of the year and the story focus they are going to be releasing it this year.

    I fully agree.

I propose going back in time to the Dwemer at the height of their culture. Much underground can be fabricated to present a different look and the "machine age" can be very fertile ground for new mechanical creatures. AND could you image the fun with Dwemer politics?

Makes me salivate with anticipation :p

Well given its pvp status we will have to deal with it being the main pvp zone but I still think they can overhaul it. Plus do the areas that have not been added as pve zones.
I do think it might be the most logical next location for a year long storyline as there are areas where it can be done.

That has been my thought about the vampire lord file since greymoor was announced. That they have been working on this for years. Which is why I support contemplation and guessing threads cause whatever they give us next year has already been being designed and brainstormed.

Your forgetting Manimarco. So far we have had 2 EP and 1 AD chapters. Strongly suspect the next chapter will be DC based rather than imperial. There is nothing going on in the lore for the empire for this time period that PCs can get involved in without a dragonbreak.

Manimarco warning of some new threat, enemy of my enemy is my friend/better the devil you know dynamic could be interesting.

A new region of Cyrodiil should be on the table, perhaps the area between the Alliance War region and the Gold Coast which would be the West Wield, this would contain the City of Skingrad and contain numerous Ayleid Ruins.

There is one zone they can do for Bretons. I think maybe the size of stros or they could make it bigger.
    https://en.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Isle_of_Balfiera

We do have good chunks of Hammerfell. Including Craglorn. Along with the Alik'r desert, Stros M'Kai, Hews Bane. There is a lot more of Hammerfell they can do though and I think they will. But I hope they do Cyrodiil before Hammerfell again. Imperials are the pariah race basically don't have much going for them. Most their homeland is pvp. Got content for them in Gold Coast but main focus is basically doing Dark Brotherhood stuff.
Whatever content they have in the game is well them as bad guys bad guys and also bad guys. Sometimes good guys but more as bad guy imperials.
They are either Invade Conquer and pillage or using necromancy or Worshiping Molag Bal.
Serve the Tharns the most corrupt Imperial Family.
In the Gold coast have a Extreme religious Order that puts Akatosh above all the Eight and treats all other divines as not worthy of worship lots of corruption and crime as well that is the Gold Coast.

Can't even craft their furniture even if you got the imperial race or motif. Can't buy their houses without the Imperial edition.
Don't have a new life festival holiday of their own given how they could have done it at the alliance bases where we could do something for them. Nope no Life Festival quest.
One Holiday they have is all about killing pillaging and blood shed. Honoring some genocidal elf hating racist robot thing from the future that murdered thousands or millions of innocents. That includes Khajiit :(.

    https://en.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Imperial
Also known as Cyrodiils, Cyrodilics[1], Cyro-Nordics and Imperial Cyrods[2], the well-educated and well-spoken Imperials are the natives of the civilized, cosmopolitan province of Cyrodiil. Imperials are also known for the discipline and training of their citizen armies, and their respect for the rule of law.[3] Though physically less imposing than the other races, the Imperials have proved to be shrewd diplomats and traders, and these traits, along with their remarkable skill and training as light infantry, have enabled them to subdue all the other nations and races and erect the monument to peace and prosperity that comprises the Glorious Empire.[4][5] Their hegemony has waxed and waned throughout the eras, and most historians refer to three distinct Empires, the ends of which each mark a new epoch in Tamrielic history.

Where is the true imperials? Because these ones don't seem like the shrewd Diplomats and traders, well educated, well disciplined respect for the rule of law.
Imperial sense of honor duty and loyalty to the Eight and the Empire. Nope
Eso Imperials Loyal to The Tharns and Molag Bal Yep.
I do think Zenimax will fix the mistakes of the Nords being just all sterotype mead drinkers being drunk all the time and will show off their true culture in Greymoor.
I think a year with Cyrodiil could be a great way they can fix the imperials to be the opposite of what they have been portraying them.
Also would remind people there are ten main races not nine. As only races that really get love is Bretons, Redguards Orcs, Altmer, Bosmer, Khajiit and Dunmer, Argonian, Nords. Imperials they get treated mostly as bad guys.

So hopefully that is on their agenda.
Because we need more Oblivion style Imperials a civilized people aimed at prosperity and peace. Not the Star Wars like Evil Empire Imperials that we keep seeing. I do think they do to do better with them and the player base when it comes to them.

I reckon the most likely options for next year would be...

...some revisiting Hammerfell, possibly Sunforge and Weeping Desert, maybe also Tanith and surrounding regions as later DLC... see how the redguards are doing, possibly getting into the crowns/forebears split, uncovering more lore about their yokudan origins and perhaps even persuing the secrets of the sword-singers (guild skill line like the Psijic Order?). There are a LOT of "1001 nights" and "ancient egypt/babylonia/assyria mythology" kind of stories ZOS could take inspiration from to do something there...

...taking on the imperial remnants in Nibenay and Blackwood, meeting Tharns family now that he is (presumed) gone, follow up the amulet of kings storyline, deal with political backstabbing, uncover conspiracies, fight the next would-be emperor, deal with plans grown from desperation of loosing the empire, possibly oncover more daedric shennannigans, etc.

Personally I'd be inclined to bet on Hammerfell, since Nibenay might be a tad too similar to the elsweyr expansion in region and antagonists... and it -has- been a while since we did desert questing.
But I would like a blackmarsh as a group area like craglorn.
That is what Murkmire was supposed to be... but then Craglorn failed -hard- and they changed their plans. Reused the name for the southern black marsh zone because people kept asking "what about murkmire?" but redid the zone idea pretty much severely to a classic solo questing DLC zone. Because group zones... just didn't work.

Now, they might still revisit the old region concept someday. Tho certainly not as group zone... it could be some classic DLC again, or it could be a mixed PvP/PvE zone, with a "slavers versus abolitionists" split in the fighting, or perhaps they might even make it a region sized public dungeon difficulty jungle-swamp zone... time will tell. But it will not come until the Murkmire release is a few years back, so people don't get overloaded with the same style of landscape... so... definitely not for next year! ;)
    Treemagnet wrote: »

For one that is not really much of an option for a full out expansion.
For another, it has not been -that- long since Clockwork city, and they certainly wouldn't want to duplicate their style of works that soon...

But yeah, we -could- get an expansion someday dealing with underground exploration somewhere, and I mean a -whole- expansion sized network of dwemer cities and very dark, falmer-overrun mining tunnels (just imagine a tunnel network so wide that it has exits towards vvardenfell, skyrim, deshaan... perhaps even connecting to an ayleid ruin set beneath cyrodil...) It could come with an "archeologist guild skill line dealing with ancient artifacts, and include one "flashback" quest showing the dwemer glory days (something many people would love, and something that IS within the scope of the game...)

And then perhaps a DLC at the deepest point... leading to even older ruins that predate the dwemer, and show some lore never even heard of before from the dawn of tamriel? Lore dealing with the origin of everything? Lorkan, aedra, magnus and the whole creation myth story? That could be fun to unravel a little!

Actually it was more like 1 EP and 2 AD chapters. Morrowind - EP; Summerset - AD; Elsweyr - AD.
And now we are getting a EP-ish chapter with the upcoming Deark Heart of Skyrim theme.
One -could- count the pre-expansion added content of Craglorn and Orsinium as "one DC chapter" in a way... but that still means DC is one short. And imperials, well... are a different matter, but could also get a chapter from the regions still under imperial rule. See above! ;)

You mean Colovia? Yeah, well, that is a DLC sized thing, NOT an expansion nor a year-long theme.
    Could happen of course.
It could make for an interesting region after all.
It would make an neat DLC for the "imperial" expansion theme... "Nibenay" as expansion, then "Colovia" as standalone-ish DLC, yes?

Remember this Crown Store pet? That's Riverwood. It was a big reason why we were expecting a Skyrim Chapter this year and... Riverwood isn't a part of it after all as far as I'm aware. Could be part of the prologue, or could be a unique but small area for one of the Chapter's questlines, I've been keeping clear of quest spoilers. Time will tell. But if it isn't... then I think there's a real strong possibility that 2021's Chapter is Skyrim too: Whiterun, parts of Falkreath like lake Ilinalta (probably not the city though due to the dungeon DLC), and Winterhold as Q4 content. Maybe we'd finally get that 1h+Spell weapon style

2021 is the 10th anniversary of Skyrim, and the 15th anniversary of Oblivion. So I'm convinced it's one of the two to leverage that marketing boost. But I don't know why they'd create Riverwood and... not use it. I think there's a good chance they've been creating a lot more of Skyrim than we'll be seeing this year, ready to be filled with quests and dungeons when the time comes. Whether that's next year... I'm not sure. But I do quite like the idea of a new story lasting two years rather than Elsweyr's one year.

They also have a lot of Falkreath forest assets ready to use thanks to the dungeon DLC Horns of the Reach, so from a productivity perspective it really does make a lot of sense to stay in Skyrim for its tenth anniversary:
    falkreathholdheader1-a5d2d.png
If I could choose based on my own wishes and ignore the productivity benefits of more Skyrim, then I'd choose Cyrodiil! Lots of nostalgia, which will be a big boost next year for the anniversary, and while I think it would be Nibenay only (leaving Skingrad, that part of the great forest, and the Colovian reserves for a future Chapter), I think there's also great potential for a Shivering Isles Q4 here, given the location of its gateway in TES4 on the Niben near Bravil. And while there's no reason to retain that gateway location other than nostalgia, well... that's the primary reason Seyda Neen was retained for the Morrowind Chapter too

Until reading your comment it never occurred to me that Imperials are treated as bad guys in ESO's story. That's unfair really. And rubbing salt in the wounds of players who paid up the wazoo to play one.

I think it was because of the way they wanted to do the game. I think the main aspect was the three alliances and the alliance war. A three on three on three war going in a time where a big daedric threat looms over all of Tamriel. Of course play any race was also added as a exclusive code for those that got the boxed edition. But races were locked by the three alliances.
Dc had the three races that tend not to get along or betray each other Bretons, Orcs and Redguards. Ad had races that could get along better Altmer, Bosmer, Khajiit but still have rivalry in the case of Bosmer and khajjiit who have gone to war in the past. Then Ep Dunmer Argonian and Nords three races that really do not get along. Nords don't get along very well with Dunmer and Dunmer before the Pact still used Argonians as slaves and after the pact falls we know its going to return that way. :(

Imperials ended up without a place because they didn't fit the mold they wanted to go for with a three on three on three slug fest. The races of the three alliances basically had unique dynamics while the Imperials were about a united Tamriel and having an Empire. So they went with their slug fest and made the Empire a Bad Guy faction all three alliances had to fight but players couldn't join up with. I think this line of thinking is the reason why Imperials got treated like they did and they seem to be treated this way because of it. They are still getting treated as Outsiders because well they don't fit the mold of the rules of three and nine. 3 three times is Nine. Imperials don't fit they are an off number. :'(

Zenimax either might have added them in because players wanted it or it was the plan to use them to generate more revenue. But at this point they really should be added into the base game without having to pay for it. Just like Battlegrounds I don't see the point in keeping them out of players hands unless they pay more. Because they really should have been there from the very beginning. This is coming from someone that payed for the imperial edition. Didn't have to pay more money to play one in Skyrim why do players have to do that here? Hopefully one day they will be added into the base game.

I could see it either being areas from DC or around Cyrodiil mainly because I think people are going to get a little burnt out on Nords and Elves. Personally I'd accept both, so long as they include more with the Planes of Oblivion (aside from Coldharbour most instances are just seriously short). I forgot who said it on here, but I could seriously imagine a trial based in the Soul Cairn where the devs could play/toy with death mechanics. I would also never say no to more Uncle Sheo content if they threw in some Shivering Isles content with updates to the additional areas of Cyrodiil.

I'd like something related to Hammerfell.

I’d like them to actively not “return to” anywhere.

The map is big. There must be large spaces where none of the previous ESO games have been. I’d rather go there than rehash some decades old single player game which few players have ever played simply to satisfy the “fans”.

    Let’s go somewhere new.

Tbh I expect Bravil Leyaviin area as Chapter, and Skingrad DLC as zone, but I dont think they will bring back Varen, but I wouldnt mind if his nephew would try to unify the remaining non war zone imperial parts under his leadership, and as a year long focus Meridia, and maybe add in Battlespire as its Artaeum/Dragonhold/Blackreach which could also be used as way to make Oblivion zones (like making Battlespire into a hub city which through u can access the Daedric Planes maybe)

either redguard or imperial seems most likely

Let's hope Redguard. And let's hope they revert Redguards to pre-nerf status or do the most reasonable thing and decouple character passives from race. Makes sense for single player but not for multiplayer playable races.

No point in messing with Cyrodiil. It's the only MMO part of ESO that's not open tapping mobs. Fixing it, yes, but let's keep the PvE players out of there. They don't enjoy it and mixing the two is a toxic cocktail.

Personally I'm hoping for more of Blackmarsh. I'd like a year of the lizards, now that we're having had year of the cat and big lizards and am moving into the year of vampire and pseudo vikings. Follow that with a year of proper lizards and I'd be happy.
