Can you please tell us how you plan on addressing the guild bank "situation'

This is not the first time that such a thing has happened in an MMO.

They are not going to do a roll back. This would just cause far too much uproar. I would be totally amazed if that were to happen.

I think they will try to convince the player base that the culprits have been tracked down and banned. It's happened before. Of course, nobody will know if anyone is actually banned or not. I mean, it's not as if there would be anything to be gained by just saying people were banned is there ?

Yep, just tell us you have banned them when you find them. Because I believe everything I am told with regard to things like this.

Last time I heard that from a game company, I also saw whining all over twitch, youtube and other game forums from the exploiters actually being banned.

Typically when they say something like that, they really did ban people.

There was a bug that allowed duping in the guild stores. It essentially allowed unlimited gold and items. Guild stores are disabled now, and next patch supposedly has a fix for the exploit.

Thanks Noth. And the guild bank? I am asking because I did see a lot of high stacks in my guild, which is a genuine, friends guild, not a trading one. Something could have happened accidentally?

Ppl were well aware of their actions.

Hey, folks. We are aware of the issue, and are working on a resolution. In the meantime, we have disabled guild functionality. We'll update you on when it's back on in this thread, so please keep an eye out there!

I appreciate your position, if only they would throw you a bone a bit more often and in turn you us.

Ah good, a dev has posted. You obviously must be a dev as you have such a good knowledge of what information is stored in the logs (everything - lol).

To be fair, that's just common sense.

All online games have logs about what characters do.

That's how they catch cheats, bots and hacks.

seems rollback is only an option
People have been duping in this way since game was released at early access. A rollback will not fix this, there are people who have amassed wealth from doing this exploit for weeks now.

ZOS will have logs of what is done by these players

You're delusional, they cant even replace items that people lost due to the bank bug, if they had a logging system they should be able to do that.

There are apparently those out there with over 1million gold, and large numbers of stacks of rare crafting materials.

Hopefully the GM staff can look through the logs and work one removing as much as possible and banning those who abused the issue. Time will tell I guess, they're sure managing to hit every hurdle in this release with full speed! :P

They just need to start swinging the ban hammer, ban everyone who abused the bug, delete what they can and sort out what ever is left over. Saw a lot of people selling items today that were priced way to low to be legit, some nice deals but not gonna support cheaters.

It takes them weeks to ban botters, so I highly doubt they will put in the investigation work to track them down one by one.

They will only ban the most obvious and idiotic exploiters, and 95% will probably just go away with it.

I have lost my faith in zenimax with all the abusing being done, and zenimax just appears to be 'working in it'. Whatever that means.

Maybe they could roll back whole game to early access first day. That would be only fair thing to everybody.

well I wouldnt say any action is going to be fair to those of us that have legitimately worked for our materials. But atleast the divide between the wealthy and the poor would be reset. As it stands, there are players that have more material wealth hidden on their account than half the server combined.

They need to run an algorithm that looks for large quantities of legendary (and maybe purples as well) upgrade items, then check the logs of those players for unusual activity.

They did announce the big group of bans after the first week of play or so. So I would guess they will fix the exploit and likely announce whatever actions they take, bans, suspensions, disbanding guilds possibly (chat is all logged), and or deleting items. likely won't have tons of details but will tell players what they did. any less is really gonna hurt public trust.

Same boat, same mindset. Unfortunately there are alot of ppl with their heads in the sand. People need to realize that if this is left unchanged it will ruin the entire economy of this game far into its future.

your post implies the ONLY option is rollback, that it can't be done by looking for the 100 stacks of Legendary items and the guild bank records and just undoing most of it.

People will quit. especially the ones in vet rank. not only is it more work for research, gathering, but you have to replay the same quests. plus what about the early access people? do we get free time? or do you guys just get locked out for 5 days?

I think the only way they would do a rollback would be if they gave out months or free time and possibly future free content. because so many will quit. I wouldn't but my play time would be extremely limited for the rest of the included time simply because I wouldn't trust them until a lot of time has passed.

It's tough for sure, ZOE is gonna have to make a call. They have access to the real metrics showing the extent of the issue. I hope based on the data analysis they have they will be able to make the right judgement call about how far to take things to save their game.

Even if they did ban them, those people could just transfer all of those items to a friend's character and then after they get banned, run out and buy a 2nd copy of the game, and come back and receive all of those items back from their friends.

A better fix might be to just render all legendary crafting materials useless and replace them with new crafting items.

Doesn't solve the gold problem, but it's a step.

You are of the mindset that ZOS will take the time to sift through hundreds of thousands of accounts to find dupes. They dont have to rolback xp.. materials/motiffs/gold only.

I dont think you see the extent in which people have gone to launder these items. Multiple accounts, hiding items in pending mail, hiding items on guild stores that arent populated... theres many more ways for these guys to slip through the cracks. The only way to stop future millionares from ruling the economy is to rollback. I dont like it either, but its better than the economy being entirely written off.

  • Kryptorchid
If I understand it correctly, these people dupes a ton of legendaries, right? We all know a rollback is not an option -- that shouldn't need explanation -- but what is an option?

Here's a novel idea -- implement item decay to item destruction for legendary items! That way these dupes items will make their way out of the economy naturally, and you can continue looking into the dupers and banning them. This would also make the economy at endgame better as people will always have a need to restock on gear either through game content or crafters.

Not sure if you have been watching ZOS over the past few months. I can tell you now, they will not be taking any kind of action that requires creation of new game elements.

Im pretty much certain they will just ban a few hundred ppl that were on the surface of it all. It wont make a dint on the impact of this disaster, but it will be more of an obligatory show of force to tide ppl over.
