Yup. I don't always need to go somewhere though if I'm just doing writs and need some extra bits.

You don't have to zone to another location just port to a guild mate / friend in the same location you are, that will fetch mails too.

Not in guilds, and my friends aren't on when I am.

I haven't had it work at all. A friend has it work occasionally, but not reliably.

I always use friends or guild mates to teleport to. Or use a wayshrine to go to a different zone.
It's pretty lame, but it's the best workaround, imo.

/reloadui has never worked for me (to get mail).

Logging out, even to just the character screen, and back in has always taken much longer for me than just using a wayshrine to zone or teleporting.

I hope this is something that can/will be fixed after this year's improvements are implemented. It would certainly be a decent QoL change for a lot of players.

This only seems to work when the load on the mail server is fairly light. Usually in those cases, opening the inbox would cause the mail to pop.

I'd say there tends to be priority to certain kinds of mail, but I'm not sure if that's true, or if it's really just random.

The 1 gold trick works well, I do this most of the time when mailing items

Sorry to burst those dreams for who think it might be fixed in a performance update: ZOS turned instant mail off intentionally because it was putting a lot of stress on the servers, causing a lot of lag. This was back in 2014, when performance was not as bad as now.

Visit an uncollected house, as not just does this count as zonining, you exit back to where you were before

change zone, via wayshire, travelling to a guild member/friend or house
logout out and back in (alt or same char)

request 1g (or any amount) if the mail is between players

"Express" mail sending to friends or guild mates: COD it with 1g.

Receiving: 1) use /reloadui command 2) travel to someone 3)enter a outlaw refugee or other similar area that requires loading.

Just jump to another instance, be it going from Glenumbra to Stormhaven or a player house, or player.

If you jump to the same region, say Glenumbra -> Glenumbra , it won't check for new mail.

If you get a couple of the pub rooms you can just jump between them for free.

It doesn't help receiving, but if you include 1 gold, that expedites the sending of mail at least.

Just travel outside your zone. Works everything for me. Usually the first item I buy will automatically appear upon opening my mail tab. Anything after that I just travel out and walah.

The fix is on ZOS's end. We can only work around it.

    Edit:

Interesting. So they deliberately made mails inconvenient. They pulled the same thing on guild banks to "fix" a duplicating bug.

Outlaw's Refuge. Which is why I like Vivec City for writs because there's an outlaw's refuge right there, so if I have to buy anything from guild stores, it's easier to get the mail

I'd say there tends to be priority to certain kinds of mail, but I'm not sure if that's true, or if it's really just random.

And even then it probably only "works" because it forces the player to wait through a loading screen and would have popped anyway had they just waited instead.

I've had /reloadui fail to load the mail for me most of the time, while rezoning has never failed on me. I think that it forces your client to actively reload your character from the server, which also includes your mail. (At least that's my theory- I am not at all tech savvy when it comes to this :D )

    Works:
Traveling between zones (like from Eastmarch to Alik'r)
Zoning into and out of outlaw refuges (this is my preferred method)
Logging out to character select and logging back in

    Doesn't Work:
    Traveling within a zone
    Using /reloadui

Mails aren't slow. It's a "mechanic". First time you open your mail window after logging in a zone, it updates. Every single time, no failure. After opening the window mail, anything you get afterwards will not come until you rezone, relog or wait for a whiiiile. That's not fixable, it's by design.

It's not a time factor. Zoning forces the server to do something with the character (I'm not entirely sure what) which prompts the system to query the mail. Move to a new zone and you force the mail to pop.
