The backpack error is still not fixed. How long do you need a year, two or perhaps three to repair?

At this point, I just pan over all of the backpacks. I am guessing that it is not a high priority fix for them, given everything else.

First, folks, be sure that you are not running an add-on which blocks the Interactive Prompt when a backpack or satchel is "Empty", regardless of its appearance.

What I read above was that backpacks are not working correctly in souther Elsweyr and they appear to be working correctly everywhere else for me. Has anyone found a case where they are not working correctly in other areas? Or did the new dlc break backpacks in all areas?
For what it was worth (nothing, evidently), I reported this issue several months ago via /bug during the session when I first discovered it, and at least once again subsequently soon thereafter. In my experience, it occurs throughout all of the zones of Tamriel, such as in The Hollow City, Coldharbour. Every backpack shown on the HUD is not affected by it. However, at least half are displayed with the flap open regardless of whether the backpack contains anything. On the other hand, those which have the flap closed ordinarily do contain something.

Again, in my experience, ordinarily ZOS will put a "cosmetic bug" such as this somewhere on their to-do list of known bugs and wait until they might eventually get a Round Tuit before they do anything. It would not surprise me if this bug becomes, in effect, a permanent feature of the game which no one reports as a bug any longer because it has always been there, in their experience.

By the way, bugs like this are commonly caused by "quick and dirty programming". ......

If you rotate the image while you are looking at it, then you can see the straps. IIRC the "furnishing" item is not interactive, that is, we cannot change the backpack (or the satchel) from open to closed and vice-versa.

When I saw the same list (in-game) as you show in the image, I was surprised. The Common Pack, Satchel used to have an entirely different image than the Common Pack, Backpack. What is now called "Satchel" is simply the image of the "Backpack" which has been opened and emptied.

Why has the image of the "Satchel" changed? The change to the image implies either corruption of the mega-server database records for the "Satchel" image, or a flaw(s) in the source code for accessing its open and closed images. Or the change might be the outcome of a quick-and-dirty attempt to "correct" a problem that has arisen in changing the image of the Backpack while it is closed to its image while it is open -- i.e., after it has been looted.

Have you checked PTS to see if all this is fixed or changed? If they can break stuff without knowing it, they can unintentionally fix stuff, too.

What zone are you in where you're seeing this?

This is not new and I'm stunned it's taken ZOS this long to notice. North and South Elseweyr. It's one of those really irritating QOL things because you can't trust the visuals on any backpack you've not actually searched.

I'm gonna get unpopular for saying this :D But i actually like the difference (For furnishings only!) I usually stick a book, a sword (blade of woe or such) or some cloth inthere to make it look in use.

Do wish it would be fixed in the gameworld though, highly confusing now i have to check them all :(

LOL! In my experience as a systems analyst and programmer, correcting errors unintentionally happens in your dreams.

Frankly, I have not run the PTS since ZOS introduced Homesteads. By all report, if an error does not cause the game client to crash, then it is not likely to be fixed. In my experience, any other error that is fixed in the PTS often remains without remedy in the released "live" software. Correction of a few bugs might be deferred until a subsequent "maintenance patch" (without a guarantee that any of them will eventually be corrected).

In my experience and that reported by other players, when ZOS loads the PTS with a new DLC or Chapter, everyone is at risk to have the records for their game-state in the mega-server database radically altered, become inaccessible, or even deleted. For example, players have reported that Homesteads, and other items such as furnishings, which they purchased with Crowns have simply disappeared or become inaccessible. In my own experience, ZOS does little or nothing to assist the player or to remedy the catastrophe, because everyone is busy developing on the next software release. Apparently, anyone which ZOS hires as a "maintenance programmer" (if any at all), ordinarily does not have the task of finding and fixing bugs -- unless and until enough players complain about their changes to a feature or the existence of a particularly bad "bug".

That said, the PTS can be useful for add-on developers to test whether changes have been made that affect their add-on.

Other than that, in my humble opinion, the PTS is primarily just another ZOS marketing tool to promote their new software before it becomes available for use.

Oh, I am sure that the dev team gets benefit from players interacting with the game on PTS. At a minimum, it gives them some new bugs to not fix.

And @ZOS_GinaBruno it's in every maap, including housing, but please don't "fix" the ones for housing, the option for an open one is nice, it's just in regular maps it's a lil confusing :D

I haven’t seen any weird backpacks in probably a month or two. Could it be that the latest PC version broke them again?

I still see them from time to time. But I've been playing a WHOLE LOT less lately, and haven't spent any time whatsoever in the Elsweyrs or group dungeons. So that could be why I've hardly seen any bugged ones.

Still, maybe it’s just on PC. I do a lot of container farming in Northern Elsweyr and I haven’t seen a single one.
