ESO the flamethrower! Merchandising, Merchandising! Where the real money is made!!!
The Elk mount was 5k or 6k. This is a huge statue that comes with multiple visual effects, of course its pricey.
Hard pass. I didn't see a way to make it cycle through each breath, and I don't think it pauses on its own. I think it would get annoying "Flame On!" all the time in my home. Also, forty dollars is just ridiculous.

I prefer more elegant stuff

At the end of the day, it is all relative though. I mean, is throwing money at ZOS worse, than spending it all on whiskey and cigars? To some it might be, but not to others. All I know, is that I have long since learned to stop caring about this stuff. I ignore 99% of the crap ZOS stuffs into the Clown Store. Simply put, there are more interesting things in life, on which to spend my money, than fleeting cosmetic glory in an MMORPG.
Vote with your wallet. If the items does not sell well Zos knows to lower the price. If the price is not lowered then well, they heard us load that enough told them they were willing to pay the price.
I avoid the cash shop pretty much in case that is not obvious.
