I made a joke about it in another thread, but for that much money it should be an attunable mundus stone or something.

ESO the flamethrower! Merchandising, Merchandising! Where the real money is made!!!

An attunable mundus stone would be even more, considering that regular ones are 6k.

This price is crazy for a single decorative furnishing item... since it has the animations, I'd expect something like 2-2.5k, and might have bought it in that case. For now I'll just wait to see if I can save up the gold to buy it via crown gifting before it gets removed, otherwise it's a pass. For a digital item with recycled assets, they would still have a big profit margin with half the price, 4k is just greedy.

The Elk mount was 5k or 6k. This is a huge statue that comes with multiple visual effects, of course its pricey.

The price is fair. It's an enormous, fantastic statue, very detailed with special effects.

Also, remember you can buy crown store stuff with IN-GAME GOLD!!!

Was ready to buy it for 2,5k max. I must say, they definitely have a lot of nerve to sell statue for this price while their game works like ****.

The elk was also a mount that could be used on as many characters as you had with animations/sounds, is a furnishing item, and not limited to a single residence. (And it was priced at 4500 crowns, not "5k or 6".)

Haven't been able to get online and check out this statue other than the photos here. And it's $40? So it must be pretty big. The flame thing is pretty awesome looking in my opinion!
My question is, how much is it to buy the house that it will fit in also? $60? $80? $100? So for the statue and a place to put it would cost how much?

Hard pass. I didn't see a way to make it cycle through each breath, and I don't think it pauses on its own. I think it would get annoying "Flame On!" all the time in my home. Also, forty dollars is just ridiculous.

I also think it's overpriced. However for the sake of correcting any misinformation, I'll share my experience on the PTS. You could cycle through the various breaths as well as turn the breath off by interacting with it after it was placed.

I propose to make the statue earn its price tag, ZOS adds another breath setting: the statue then spits out a stream of flaming dollar bills, reminding you of where your money went!
(A blast of golden coins may sound much more aesthetically pleasing, but proves more of a hazard when your guests randomly get knocked out cold by shiny stray projectiles....)

That's by design. They want you to buy 4 (one for each of the different particle effects) and surround the Potentiate's Retreat lake with them.

A pixel decorative statue for a price of full 3A game.

    Hahaha.

Bethesda morally is not sunk to depths of Titanic, they are pass that and digging a hole through ceneter of Earth to reach the realms of Lord Mammon.

The only reason why I don't recommend Eso to others is because I don't want to be in position to explain to people that I know that I'm not in that group if s****** that throws money on that kind of buffoonery.

The whole shop concept is awful, not to use some other words.

    No, we can’t.

What we can do is exchange gold with someone who has bought crowns with real money to gift us the item. The person you buy the crowns from still has to support this scummy monetization racket.

If we could actually buy crowns with gold, well... that’ll be the day the sun explodes. I’m not sure if that will be before or after legislators finally start cracking down on the rampant predatory monetization in video games.

Vote with your wallet. If the items does not sell well Zos knows to lower the price. If the price is not lowered then well, they heard us load that enough told them they were willing to pay the price.

I avoid the cash shop pretty much in case that is not obvious.

Style books are going for 5-6k.
The usual furniture packs, containing 1-2 golden items, a bunch of shrubberies and a butterfly are going for 3-4k.

The price for the dragon statue is high, but the item is unique. Don't buy it if it's too expensive for your tastes.

The cost of digital goods in this game is utterly bonkers. The prices, that ZOS regularly asks, are of the sort that would cause revolts among the player base in other games. ZOS gets away with it, because so many are willing to throw money at them. Ridicilous amounts of money, and on a regular basis. I accepted long time ago, that I simply am not part of the target demographic ZOS is going after.

Everyone is, of course, free to waste their money in whatever way they wish, but I just can't justify spending this sort of money on digital goods. Stuff that is going to vanish into oblivion the moment this game gets canned. Granted, that wont happen this year, nor probably the next, but I find it kidna difficult to believe, that this game will be, in anyway, a relevant part of my life 5 years from now. As such, I'd much rather waste my disposal income, on stuff that gives me something more concrete and tangible. Something that I might get enjoyment from 10 years from now.

At the end of the day, it is all relative though. I mean, is throwing money at ZOS worse, than spending it all on whiskey and cigars? To some it might be, but not to others. All I know, is that I have long since learned to stop caring about this stuff. I ignore 99% of the crap ZOS stuffs into the Clown Store. Simply put, there are more interesting things in life, on which to spend my money, than fleeting cosmetic glory in an MMORPG.

Hey, the statue is awesome. It's huge and it has different breath modes to choose from. If I were even slightly interested in housing, I would totally buy it. 4.000 crowns may be $40, but is also just 1.600.000 gold - that's about two weeks of crafting dailies and some very casual farming. ;)

(No, it's not really worth real money. Then again, hardly anything in the crown store is worth real money when you can buy it with fake ones...)

The moment i saw this statue on PTS i thought: They are going to ask a exuberant amount of crowns for that.

The particles are nice, but i do not like the statue that much, so I am gonna pass.
And so the Elder Scrolls foretold. You will be shy, and I will be bold.

I get you, but I don't completely agree. The problem with microtransactions in games is that, even if they are optional, they impact the game for everyone - even those like you and me who choose not to engage in them.

I've subscribed for as long as I've played, with the exception of a period when I took a break, and up to last month when I cancelled my sub as I wait to see where ESO goes in terms of performance improvements. I never bought a single crown in all this time. Yet I'm flooded with in-game ads about limited time exclusives, I'm flooded with unnecessary items designed to eat away at our storage capacity, I'm bombarded with grinds that have a convenient solution in the store, from riding lessons to XP gain to crafting motifs...

Not to mention the fact that a MTX-driven game is going to have its resources thrown at the part that brings in the money: microtransactions. If the game relied on being a good game that people would be willing to sub to, the developers would make damn sure it stayed a good game. As it is, it just needs to support a sufficiently large community of spenders. Does PC-EU suffer disproportionate down time? Do the console versions crash the hardware? Does the game feel like a slideshow while zerging in PvP or running 12-man trials? Tough luck! So being optional doesn't mean it doesn't impact me.

And the truth is that for many people the stuff that is purely cosmetic may not be entirely optional either, as it sets some players apart from the "plebs" that don't have the shiny mounts and costumes. This is marketing 101. Take the flashiest mounts you can get, apex mounts. Can you even buy them outright? Fat chance - you need to either gamble, or spend a second-tier currency that you can only get by gambling. None of this is mere coincidence. Microtransactions are a cancer on the gaming industry. They're like good tasting poison - some people will keep drinking as long as it feels good in the short run.

When I saw that statue on the PTS, I saved 10k crowns for it. 4k is really a lot less than what I expected. This is a really good piece of furnishing, they did a really good job. I don't feel bad one second for this purchase, this majestic purchase.

I think you are missing the point. Do you really think that ZOS prices these things in order to attract lots of buyers with a low price? People have been saying for years that if ZOS would just lower the prices, people would buy more. You would think that ZOS would have "learned the lesson" already. Yet, here we are.

Instead, what ZOS does is put a premium price on it and then they offer it for only a few days. This immediately puts the item into the "special" and "rare" category. That drives their core clientele to buy it. After that, people who want it, but have not purchased it, start to complain about the price, or the limited time, and effectively advertise the hell out of the item. Like what we are doing now, in this thread. This thread may discourage a few people from buying it, but it also drives the fence sitters to buy. Some of them because they did not notice it was for sale, some because it is now more "special", and others just because.

If you want ZOS to drop the prices, it is not enough to simply not buy it. You have to completely ignore it and stop advertising it for them. When ZOS throws a rock in the pond and it does not splash, that is when they take notice.
