I wouldnt have used the one i usually use.

Is there a way to change Your login credentials?
Terran is a term used to refer to a hypothetical progenitor race that colonized New Eden prior to the collapse of the EVE Gate. Little is known about this race, though they left numerous artifacts across the cluster, including old stargates and the EVE Gate itself.

I'd like to know as well. To me it's a privacy and security violation and clearly a bad idea. You should be allowed to select an account handle that is used for the public interactions while keeping your login credentials fully private.

The current line from ZOS is "you can change it, put in a ticket through the support page". Doesn't resolve the other issues related to this problem, but it at least offers some option for those with login IDs that include more personally identifiable information.

When you create your account it explicitly says that your UserID will be displayed to others in game.8cyvi.jpg

So I don't know why anyone would create one that they don't want people to know.

And everyone reads the full EULA/TOS before signing up to any game service, too, right? Some people get excited and want to hurry through the process so they can get ingame, and just use something they know and can remember easily as their login/password. People can go on about "weak passwords" and "terrible security habits" all day, but that won't actually make most people actually pay attention beforehand and suddenly develop safer/more secure habits overnight. This is the primary weakness in the current system displaying @userIDs - humans being humans.

Because in most games your user id and your handle are completely different things. I do really wish that they'd do this, as I prefer to be ID'd by my main character name rather than by my login.

I think it would help resolve the security issues if they used your email address instead of your handle for your login name. It is a pretty bad idea to share part of your login information to others in game.

Let me just clarify, I'm not against having the game use your character's name rather than the UserID. I was simply pointing out that they did notify us when we created the account.

Usually I'm one for being reasonable. But, I see your argument as "we should cater to human error" and businesses just can't realistically plan for that. I think a nice compromise is to make the ID changeable, but for a fee.

Yeah, having our login plastered everywhere (friends list, guild chat, here) doesn't exactly instill a great sense of security in me...not sure why they made the decision to do it this way.

It basically gives hackers a head start in hacking your account when they already know your login.

Guess we need to have faith their other security measures will help. Like having to enter a code sent to your email when you try to play your account on a different computer.

Hopefully they will come out with an authenticator app like other MMOs have done as well.

Completely agree. I would think authenticators would be standard at this point.

When that "realistic planning" results in countless numbers of extra manhours of customer service staff time wasted because of issues such as what OP has encountered, or other more serious problems such as compromised accounts because some folks use the same ID/password combo for everything (including email) due to being bad at memory or whatever other reasons? They absolutely should account for this in their plan. But hey, it's their bad business planning and their lost money due to CS being tied up dealing with the mess they created instead of all the other issues a bit more outside their direct control.

The login security that many people were not getting emails for at all (gmail and a couple other services were not receiving them properly)? The same security that some people were able to get around by failing to enter a code, waiting 10 minutes, then logging in without one? "Faith" may be the right word there, it certainly isn't "confidence".

But it's fairly standard. They could have easily planned for this complaint, by simply acknowledging the standard practice and learning why it was done that way.

Making it changeable for a fee is an awful compromise. Just meet the MMO standard please, Zenimax! A toggle shouldn't be hard to do!
