Why is the main new feature of a vampire/witch/werewolf chapter a treasure hunting system?

I have a bad feeling about it. There’s no way they’d implement a free system and skills without some sort of cash grab

Antiquities is a paid system, but yes, I await the inevitable involvement of the Crown Store and the Director of Monetization.

Jewelry crafting is a feature we have been asking for since beta. It was an amazing and welcome quality addition to ESO. Who has been asking for what is seemingly ZOS’s version of WoW archeology 2.0?

People have been asking for something outside of the realm of combat, dungeons, and trials for at least two years. The Tamriel in ESO is huge and people can visit any of the zones, but all we really have are surveys, treasure maps, and fishing, plus a few events, to bring us to these zones. The first two are random drops and fishing really has no solid reward for participation. ESO needs something new, and Antiquities looks like it will do.

Retrospectively, the treasure hunter personality and costume from last year seem like a possible tease leading up to the Antiquities reveal.

Personally I like the news about a system that sounds like it will be rewarding with earnable in game things like mounts and emotes and such.

Why not? You always have next year to get what you want.

Uh, because objectively a vampire/werewolf hunting guild would of been badass? And more fitting to the chapter? And they made a big deal about how this chapter was game changing? Which led me to believe there might even be 2 new skill lines.

When I told my friends we're getting a vampire themed chapter, they did not expect the big brand new thing to be treasure hunting.

Vampires are getting a complete skill line rework though. Thats your big Vampire feature.

    Do we get hide vampirism?

No idea but people have said they are changing the vampire appearance so who knows how they'll look or whether the skin can be toggleable.

    Fishing.

    With Skill line.

    As a new mechanic...

    Like wtf... :open_mouth:

    It was an obvious joke.

Gosh, people, are you boring! If something doesn't involve hitting stuff on the head with a stick as hard as possible, there's no place for it in the game now?

They also love to joke about how they re-released 'Skyrim' on multiple platforms, multiple times - or about the bad performance in eso (Ginas 'Its fine' halloween costume) etc.
At this point I am pretty sure antiquities will be exactly what they said: ground fishing

I'm sorry, but is anyone else a little put-off by this? Instead of designing a new skill line or two that would fit in line with the chapter, we get....treasure hunting! I honestly wouldn't mind treasure hunting if we got something else along with it. Like one hand and rune or a dawnguard/hunter group world skill line option. Or honestly both. They could of easily added in a new hunter guild with vampire/werewolf hunting dailies and neat little quests and stuff. It feels like a hugely missed opportunity. But hey, the Dragonguard came in late, so maybe we'll get something later this year idk. I get its extremely unlikely to happen tho.

Since the re-vamp of vampire is included in the base game, that makes it hurt even more I feel. This is the first ever chapter without a new combat skill line.

Its unlikely you are going to see anything new in the way of combat this year. They are doing a bunch of backend performance improvements and trying to balance combat. Adding new into this will only complicate matters. I have a feeling Q3 or Q4( probably Q4) is going to be a big reveal on a new leveling system.

So you will get combat improvements( we hope) all year plus performance improvements ( again we hope) and probably the introduction of a new leveling system in Q4 as the grand finale.

I would love Antiquities as a Q1 base game feature in the sense of housing which was a base game feature in Q1 as well.

I absolutely do not like Antiquities as a paid Chapter feature. It just feels out of place as that.

Another problem is the combat and progression in this game. Combat, builds and progression in this game are the worst part for veteran players and hasn’t changed since the addition of the CP cap or better, since launch. The builds are the same, the combat is the same, the only thing that changes are some nerfs/buffs to skills and (new) sets. That’s not enough to keep players longtime hooked.

It will be free in Q2... of 2021. You pay for early access to chapters now apparently as opposed to buying the content.

Honestly I would be fine if default didn't look like a desicated vampire.

I am guessing that by not feeding, you will effectively be doing that. Maybe not completely, though. I cannot see a reason why the studio would want to hide the appearance when at the other end of the spectrum, when you look most like a vampire.

My impression, and we will have to see if this pans out, is that they are updating the appearance, not really changing it. They were sort of vague when they talked about that. We know that the strength and appearance are reversed from what it is today, though.

Right. Rich was on Ninja614's stream following the event and commented along the lines that they are focused on stabilizing things and getting the performance work done, and not adding things that would make that harder. The question was with additional storage space, but I have to think that all of the systems and upgrades we get this year are designed to not interfere with ongoing performance work.

I think that Antiquities is a paid feature because the vampire skill line could not be. The only way that they could do vampire as a paid feature would be to have two mutually exclusive vampire lines in the game, and I think that would complicate things way too much.

I suppose they could have made Antiquities a free item, but they would have had to drop the price of Greymoor. Development of the vampire and Antiquities features is not free for ZOS. Somewhere, somehow, they need to get paid for this. TANSTAAFL.

I expect that Antiquities will be a Crown Store item in the summer of 2021. I would hesitate to call it "free", since will not be free like the vampire skill line.

When I told my friends we're getting a vampire themed chapter, they did not expect the big brand new thing to be treasure hunting.

In this era there was no such guild. Fighters guild or specialist where the ones to handle ww or vamps.

dawnguard was founded in the second era...i could actually see them pull another dragonhold in the q4 update and have us found the dawnguard or its precursor...i think that would be cool and we could finally see my beloved dawnguard and vampire armor. Might also fit to "nightfall"...maybe vamps have another forever night scheme and we need to make sure the dawn comes.

Regarding treasure hunting, i kinda get the impression they got some team that designs new features just independent of any chapter and they just throw the ones in that seem ready

Perhaps, but the issue us we gave little clue what section of the second era we are now in. Iirc DG was not founded till 3rd era because it was split off from another faction that formed near the end of the 2nd era. Could be wrong though.
