Why is the main new feature of a vampire/witch/werewolf chapter a treasure hunting system?

I'm sorry, but is anyone else a little put-off by this? Instead of designing a new skill line or two that would fit in line with the chapter, we get....treasure hunting! I honestly wouldn't mind treasure hunting if we got something else along with it. Like one hand and rune or a dawnguard/hunter group world skill line option. Or honestly both. They could of easily added in a new hunter guild with vampire/werewolf hunting dailies and neat little quests and stuff. It feels like a hugely missed opportunity. But hey, the Dragonguard came in late, so maybe we'll get something later this year idk. I get its extremely unlikely to happen tho.

Since the re-vamp of vampire is included in the base game, that makes it hurt even more I feel. This is the first ever chapter without a new combat skill line.

Yeah it doesn't quite make that much sense? Like hm, you'd think the big thing would be vampire/werewolf hunting or, you know, a new weapon like everyone has been screeching for.

Uh, because objectively a vampire/werewolf hunting guild would of been badass? And more fitting to the chapter? And they made a big deal about how this chapter was game changing? Which led me to believe there might even be 2 new skill lines.

When I told my friends we're getting a vampire themed chapter, they did not expect the big brand new thing to be treasure hunting.

They (the devs) even compared it "fishing, but in the ground" during the live stream.

Well I think they wanted it to be more then just another combat defeat the enemy type of thing. I think they want to do more exploration type stuff and the stuff they are adding is going to be added through the entire game. They are not only just adding new stuff but new lore as well. i think they are doing it because of the vibe adventure. We are going to be more Indiana jones and Lara Croft. That is the vibe I think they are wanting to add to the game. Which will be really cool to see what they will do with it.

    It was an obvious joke.

I get what you mean. I'm personally still super excited for the chapter. Im hoping mythics are really cool and there's a good number of them!

I just kinda wish they went the extra mile this year and gave us a new skill line + this new treasure system

This is where I'd agree if it was tied to the chapter. But it's not, it's a base game update. It isn't even advertised.

I doubt treasure hunting is the main new feature. But I hope it is, as in that they put enough effort into it to make it fun and interesting, unlike the Psijic questline.

Why did they release Jewelry Crafting with Summerset. It isn't like the doom befalling the island was related to jewelry. Even the Psijic quest line was about a staff, not jewelry.

Sometimes a system is introduced because they want to introduce the system. In this case, it broadens the appeal of the Chapter, especially since they could not put the vampire skill line improvements in the chapter.

I wouldn't mind Antiquities if ZOS had either lessened the price to reflect that Greymoor offers less gameplay changes than Elsweyr or Morrowind OR if ZOS kept the price and added a gameplay-changing skill line in addition to Antiquities.

I'm really struggling with justifying paying the same price as Elsweyr and Morrowind for less gameplay changing content. I mean, Summerset had two skill lines that actually measurably changed combat and gameplay and still cost less than Greymoor.

I feel like bringing up the Summerset expansion is a very bad arguing point. Especially considering we got jewelry crafting AND an entire new guild skill line.

Im hoping this new system is deep enough to make up for it, though

And if they are going to overhaul an existing skill line with this chapter, surely it should have been the Fighters guild. It's really a complete dud atm in terms of being a monster hunter thing.

Jewelry crafting is a feature we have been asking for since beta. It was an amazing and welcome quality addition to ESO. Who has been asking for what is seemingly ZOS’s version of WoW archeology 2.0?

Well, in Greymoor we get Antiquities and a free update to the Vampire skill line. Both of those are better than what we got with Summerset. I see your point.

I can agree completely. You mean to tell me the fighters guild ISNT going to be in Skyrim trying to combat the vampires heavily? Also why they probably wouldn't create a smaller hunter force specially made up of vampire hunters? (This could be the player guild, which would more or less be a subset of the fighters guild)

Not Fighters Guild. If they wanted to follow your theory and make the "bonus" feature related to the Chapter, they should have left Vampire alone and added a Stendarr skill line. That would have been in line with the TES 5 theme, although about 800 years too early by Lore.

This Antiquities thing sounds fine, but I can't imagine why anyone thought it would be a proper flagship feature for a "chapter" that costs $40-60. It's irritating. ZOS knows we have been shrieking for new weapons and skill lines, and they slap us in the face with this time waster.

Reality is no matter what they add or what they do people will complain about it. They want it faster, easier or it is just not what they want so it is junk. The forums are filled with threads of people complaining because they think it should have been different just because and this thread joined that pile.

Like I said elsewhere, this is the forum where people lay into ZOS because the free daily rewards are not good enough. The free rewards. There is nothing ZOS can possibly do that costs these people actual money that will make them happy.

I think that the Antiquities is perfectly fine for the chapter. It broadens the appeal and adds something that is is a self-paced world exploration quest, rather than some combat thing. There's a whole box full of examples of systems unrelated to the update in this game, and the game is better for them. I look forward to them.

As I have mentioned elsewhere, I can understand why people (who do not play vampires) are disappointed in the lack of new combat skill line, I myself was hoping for a new weapon or maybe some sort of "Reachman Magic". However, I appreciate this attempt at adding something completely different and fresh to the game. People who are feeling more pessimistic will of course compare it to lorebook hunting, but with the inclusion of not one but TWO skill lines and minigames, I think it'll be a lot more than that.

Overall, I think it is simply too early to criticize, as we have only been given bare-bones information on the new system. Once we see it in action, THEN we can make informed judgments.

dawnguard was founded in the second era...i could actually see them pull another dragonhold in the q4 update and have us found the dawnguard or its precursor...i think that would be cool and we could finally see my beloved dawnguard and vampire armor. Might also fit to "nightfall"...maybe vamps have another forever night scheme and we need to make sure the dawn comes.

Regarding treasure hunting, i kinda get the impression they got some team that designs new features just independent of any chapter and they just throw the ones in that seem ready

It might be included in the base game, but all that means is that they're giving that component away for free. The work on that is still going to comparable to the psijic skill line.

One of the problems with that was it created an obvious and possibly deliberate power imbalance between owners of Summerset and not. Not even taking into account the actives, the psijic passives which fire off damage and damage shields, undeniably would have provided an edge in pvp.

Want that edge or at least not to be on the disadvantaged side of it? BUY BUY BUY!!!!!!

That imbalance was kind of screamingly obvious and might have been ill received by pvp'ers.

Not that I don't see your point. Vampirism isn't everyone's cup of tea and there are also class, race and appearance considerations. Potentially this DLC will not be as value packed for a lot of players. There's a question mark over it for me.
