You can call these predictions, but after the event today, I expect we will look back on this post and sigh dejectedly. Here's what we are getting this year:
PVE: Skyrim chapter- exactly what areas we get to explore and what the story is is mostly irrelevant to this discussion. Full year long story as with elsweyr.
Chapter DLC contents-
A bunch of overland quests involving the killing of 80% old enemy models and 20% new ones
1x Trial - Our usual full trial (or mini trial, if budget is low)
A bunch of new trial sets, half of which nobody will use, the other half of which will be mandatory for your build.
Re skinned dolmens (think dolmens, geysers, dragons) Where bags of hp appear on the map in set locations and need to be killed by groups of players.
6x overland wb
5-6 delves
2x public dungeons
1x new skill line that every build will need 1 skill from
2x crafted sets
Zone DLC
Smaller area of skyrim, possibly solstheim? Who knows, again, the exact area is irrelevant to the point I am making here.
1x Arena trial (This is a maybe, since last time they just omitted endgame content completely from the small zone dlc)
2x Delve
2x wb
1x crafted set
most likely re skinned dolmen carry over from the main chapter
Throughout the year-
4x dungeon dlc- These will probably be pretty cool, employing a mix of old mechanics and the odd new one.
2x monsters sets.
A bunch of houses
6-7 new outfit styles
Balancing- -
More massive pendulum swings. This is how they keep the game interesting and ever changing, it is intentional.
Performance updates- - When all is said and done, maybe a 10 fps improvement across the board? Might be being generous here. I also fully expect the server issues to be sorted out, surprisingly (for NA at least, EU, you guys are never getting saved).
PVP- - Mostly nothing, but scraps will be thrown. This is the area I most hope I am very wrong.
2x Battlegrounds throughout the year
1x new volendrung style weapon of cyrodiil
Housing-
Some new furniture
Wild card--
Maybe a final resolution to CP?
Maybe some kind of addition to the crafting system?
In conclusion - ZOS appears to be in a state where they are no longer innovating and adding new gameplay systems in any capacity. The last time we truly got something new was battlegrounds with morrowind (I don't accept volendrung as a new gameplay system, come on). All we have seen in the past few years is just getting MORE STUFF, not NEW STUFF. That distinction is very important.
I very much hope I am wrong. I really hope we truly get something new with skyrim, something that gives us something to add to the gameplay loop, that is what this year NEEDS.
