outfits vs costumes in the crown store, what do you prefer?

Depends on the situation really. I like the plain clothing look and also costumes can connect more seamlessly. I like the travel packs you get on some of them. Still I do also use outfits where costumes just don't cut it, especially since we have fewer and fewer armor costumes. I like to rp with my guild so using both costumes and outfits gives me a lot of elasticity.

The outfit system is hideously expensive, which is how it was purposefully designed. With a costume, I buy it once and all characters can wear it, change it out, and dye it to their heart’s content without further cost (with ESO+). I prefer to pay once and then that’s it. With outfits, anytime I want to change it out I have to fork over thousands in gold. 🙄

My characters never have more than 200K gold, and usually much less. I don’t need ANOTHER bloody gold sink in this game. And the cost to add additional outfits is absurdly high IMO.

It’s nice to have options and such, but the cost is too high for me. 🤷‍♀️

Since transmog was added I haven't had reason to put a costume on since I only used them to cover up the ugly armour sets or monster sets up.

I still want costume pieces for use in outfits. I.e. non-armour items to use in a single slot combined with armour in others. So I could combine Pirate baggy pants with a cuirass and sabatons for example.

Costumes and Outfits provide different functions so I cant really choose between the two. You dont need to mix and match a dress or the leather assassin costume. But outfits are very useful when youre trying to create a look using existing motifs or hiding motif styles that are directly tied to dropped gear.

I tend to lean towards costumes more than outfits due to the fact Im more into RP but in some cases the outfits really help me tie a characters look together that I would not be able to accomplish otherwise.

costumes

As I currently don't know of a way to have guild name under my character name other than wearing a tabard and hiding it under a costume I prefer costumes. If there is a way to have my guild name appearing, having my outfit without having/showing the tabard, please enlighten me.
