How does your ESO playstyle reflect who you are IRL?

I’m not as willing to risk myself out here where it can hurt. I’m a vegan, so the whole killing beings isn’t really my thing. I would never venture out without knowledge of the area, humans can be cruel.. I’m not a big fan of the human race these days, I’m probably somewhat of an introvert. My energy is coming from my nonhuman companions. I know a lot of people but have few friends and even fewer close friendships.

Similarities are the ‘do not take any ***’ attitude, the red hair all my toons have, the blue eyes, the short and skinny body type. We are all adventurous and capable of handling ourselves. Self dependent. Anarchist in core.

As in real life I’m well behaved, polite and aware of the fact that, there is another being on the other end of the line. With no problem to put someone back in their place, if they don’t..

My main is a vampire, an assassin, and a thief who will kill anything that moves and loves to pull the wings off of butterflies.

In RL, I play ESO from prison so, yeah, my playstyle and RL are similar!

Seriously though, I am a non-violent, peace-loving hippy so the two are not even close to the same.

For years in other game I played long ranged dps so I could stay on background.
At start in ESO same thing, I picked healer so I wouldn't have to be at center of action. I thought that is who I am, also irl, as I didn't like too much attention.

Later I realized I thrive from attention as presenting myself and my ideas gathered me lot of respect irl.
So I switched my ESO main to physical dps and I like testing out this new style for now.

My main and I both have intermittent anger issues; I'm better at controlling mine, however xD.

Generally, my chars are friendlier and tend to socialize more than I do IRL.

Well, in ESO and wow. I am not that social compared to forums but in FFXIV, I have an awesome guild, I do chat with them often...

While, ESO is consider. I play as a tank/healplar in Cyrodiil. I don't join in groups or invite one. I play solo in almost everything in the game.

Back in 2016, I had a guild called "The Pact" it was active and we formed a PvP raid to crush the green alliance but then morrowind came. Thus ended, the pact. Many left the game and those that returned weren't with vigor. It's like they lost their soul or passion playing ESO.
Thus, I left and went solo. So, I have lost interest in this game but occasionally I do come for the PvP, which does bring joy to my boredom.

So, as to your question. Yes, I get things done on my own instead of depending on others, if I find them decent I join them without hesitation likewise, in ESO I am a tankplar PvP. So, I can manage my self from being nuked by zerg pugs by joining another Zerg pugs to do the killing. While, I taunt them by being the bait ;)

    Pretty similar.
I craft IRL (cross stitch and embroidery mostly, but I dabble in all sorts of stuff), and I can’t imagine skipping the crafting component in any game I play.
I hate asking for help IRL, same in the game. Big ol’ softy when it comes to animals IRL and I feel bad when I accidentally kill a passing critter in the game. I’m also a cat person, and have many khajiit alts and most of the cat pets and mounts. One day I’ll make a crazy cat lady house with them all.

I could never RP/semi-RP a truly horrible character. The thought of pretending to be a slaver or otherwise bigoted character just doesn’t appeal to me at all.

Socially, I’m mostly the same, if a tiny bit more extroverted in the game. I’m rather shy IRL but chattier in the game. I don’t magically become a bigot because someone deigned to kill me in PVP or had subpar DPS or whatever in PVE. I agree with the previous poster in that the virtual world is like real life alcohol, lowers inhibitions but doesn’t fundamentally change who you are.

And now I’m rambling because my cat woke me up too early for breakfast and now I can’t fall back asleep 😐

So I have to make an observation, I’m seeing so many I play solo / lone wolf players . You do realize your playing an MMO ?

Because when the threads like when ES6 comes out players will leave in droves or players largely play this because they they thinks it’s Skyrim. Knights of the Forums will come some it won’t happen but threads like these always say otherwise.

If your playing ESO to play Bob the builder there is so many better options for housing. I have more fun fishing in Warframe then this game.

But I digress. Back on topic, nothing from Pixels should anyway reflect IRL.

So, funny one here. From launch until about 2 yeara ago, I mained a magblade. I really enjoyed the sneaking, kill from the shadows play style, as well as the whole blood magic thing.

Anyway, around that time (2 years ago), I went to police academy and ended up becoming an officer. I have never been a very in your face person, but rather a stick to myself kind of man. I've seen my confidence with everything in life skyrocket the past couple of years.

So, as stupid as it is, ive seen a more in your face gamestyle on eso lol. I now essentially main a stam sorc/mag dk, while my magblade sits as a crafter for now. Maybe if they buff him in PvP, I'll come back to him, but even so, I would prefer the survivability over the manliness.

Anyway, thanks for the opportunity to show our nerdy side OP!

I tend to play as support. Sometimes emotional too, when I'm the only one alive during boss fight. You can deduce the rest.

On these forums I'm an absolute *** ***, so don't judge by my post history though.

An MMO that allows for a large amount of parallel play*, not just forced grouping.
I like playing with a bunch of people around, interacting with them and being sociable, but I appreciate that there are many ways to progress in this game without forced grouping. I can play in a group when I want to, but do my own thing when I want to as well.

Just because it’s not how *you* think people should play the game doesn’t mean they’re doing it wrong.

(*Playing adjacent to others, but not necessarily playing directly with them.)

Hopefully, not much at all since this is a video game where you kill things on a regular basis.
I mean, I haven't walked around town just picking up alchemy mats or ore for some time. I need to get back to that!

On a serious note, I think I've told this story before, but seems like a good fit for this topic.

I have a real life friend who plays ESO. We work together, and I see him almost daily. Let's call him Kevin.

Kevin is a real sweet guy. Always there to lend a helping hand, say a kind word, or buy you a soda...just because. Intelligent, thoughtful, and kind...in real life.

Put this man in any MMO...ESO, WoW, Guild Wars...literally any game, and he becomes a monster. He's an elitist. He mocks your gear, he tells you you're awful, if you kill him in PvP, he'll whisper you horrendous things that I can't repeat here. Not in the "I'm trying to help" way...he wants you to understand he is superior to you in every way. He once out dps the entire group in a WoW raid by a entire 1/2 percent and would not shut up about how he carried the entire team and how we should all be licking his boots. (It was way worse, but can't express what he actually said without forum mods losing thier minds)

He actually honestly wonders why people dont like gaming with him anymore, and repeatedly telling him to tone down the attitude has done little to nothing. It's as if he can't help himself.

Wonderful guy in life, a monster in gaming.

I put very little stock in how people act in game compared to real life.

The thing is, I take exactly the opposite lesson from what you've described here: how people act in game has nothing to do with how people want people to perceive them publicly in real life. It has everything to do with who they actually are.

It sounds like your buddy is not "a real sweet guy." Instead, it sounds like he is someone who is deeply invested in a type of "nice guy" persona in daily life, but has some serious underlying psychological and anger management issues. Now, we could debate whether he's chosen a relatively healthy way of working out those issues or not, but it certainly reflects what he actually has going on inside of him.

Now, my personal feeling is that whether you are talking to your neighbor out in the yard, or a coworker in the office, or a store clerk... or some anonymous person on the other end of a computer screen, it's NOT healthy to take out your rage on other real, live human beings. Kill as many trolls or bandits or bears as you want to work out your aggression, because they aren't real... but when you are being garbage to another human being, it IS real life, whether online or not.

This anecdote is like when women write in to advice columns and say, "Oh, my husband is the sweetest guy to me, but then he goes online and tells teenage girls to kill themselves on Instagram." Nope, your husband is a sociopath.

I am pretty much anticapitalist in real life, I refuse to be exploited by anything or anyone, physically or mentally. But in game, I spend a lot of time trading and looking for items to flip etc, and enjoying watching the millions piling up. When I buy something 1000gold and resell it for 122k(happened last week, a motif), sometimes I feel bad.

I play alone most of the time but I don't reject company for a limited time, but I am aware that without everyone else, things wouldn't make sense. Just like in real life : you know people who say they are independent and say they don't need anyone "I AM A SELF-MADE MAN!", people who defend the market ideology etc, these people often don't realize that if there is a market, it's because they actually need other people.

Above ALL, I LOVE being independent. I absolutely freaking hate being dependent on others regarding to basically anything. For that reason i picked up crafting and spent about 2 years researching all traits. I am a lone wolf IRL and a lone wolf ingame, pugging is all i do and i LOVE having no obligations to guilds or people. My friendlist is at 0 ingame, in real life i have abandoned most of my relationships with friends. My fiance and my dog is all i need. This goes back to when a very near friend of mine ditching me after a lifetime ( 15- 25 ) of friendship. That clearly changed me , a lot - regarding to relationships with other people.

Also, at one point in my life i was a GM for a raiding guild in wow (i was know as "the cow" , my main was Tauren paladin lol). Back then wow was a huge part of my life and i put a lot of energy and effort into the guild i payed for ppl subscriptions, spent crazy amount of time learning fights and organising raids, helpt ppl out etc ). Things eventually fell apart and i felt betrayed by my guildies, it left me feeling broken/devastated. After that, about 10 years ago i think, ive never been active in any guild or social in any way in online games.

ill do anything to solo group content - as far as its possible. I have my own pimped out house ingame with a LOT of crafting stations, cool stuff and mundus stones. I have acquired decent amounts of gold ( at 35 mill at the moment ) and i never ask anyone for anything, except tips on builds etc. Im generous and often give things away but i dont excpect anything back. Beying determined got me to flawless , which took me a LOT of time. I have similar projects IRL where i set a goal to do certificates for work ( currently working on MCSA / IT )and other goals like an apartament for my mom etc.

I also have a temper and have whispered not so nice comment to people that pissed me off in PVP. I made a thread about controlling emotions in PVP and thanks to your advice, that i really took to heart, its gotten a lot better.

So yeah, how does your ingame self reflect who you are IRL?

My guess is that you're a Nightblade? haha because if you are, then yeah, I feel you, man. Invest a ton of personal effort into friends and guildies, only to have almost nothing be recipricated.

My wife knows I'm a lone wolf and why I am that way. Been burned too many times. I definitely stick to the shadows, am self-sufficient in every possible way I can think of, and only reach out when trying vet hard modes etc. I've adapted to soloing veteran dungeons etc.

And my buddies wonder why I don't go play other games with them... it's because they flake out and change games every two weeks etc. You have to find people who understand and have similar views on commitment and investment and be willing to be in it with you. That is what I have found from my experiences.

I like helping people out in both real life and in game. I like helping others see improvement in their character or themselves. A coach a mentor; it's what I like doing.

I also like to stir pot, be the devil's advocate, you know troll from time to time on the forums. Usually once I hit a point in the game where I don't have anything worth doing or pursuing because I've done it all. I do it mainly to push the buttons on the elite player who belittle others or tell others to get better. I don't see that happening though for me for ESO, because I don't play MMOs like I use to as life happens and as life continues to happens my time to play MMO continues to dwindle.

I do have to say though, out of all the MMOs I have played this is the first game where I find PVE players actually help each other instead of trying to start something that results in nothing. Overall the players base here is more mature and seems to leave their nasty comments for PVP instead of using those in PVE group content.

As a MMO player one of the best group chats I've ever been in was when the player who was the tank, his wife asked how much longer it would be before he is ready to go shopping. His response was right after the last boss. The wife dropped a few vulgar terms and her statement "with you, it's always the last boss" is probably why as a married man my time playing MMOs have decreased but still one of the best group chats I was in. Never laughed so hard. Well there is another time I laugh as hard but that was all from someone singing about fried chicken.

Welp, I don’t spend all my time IRL setting stuff on fire until it dies like my mDK main does.

I’m also not a vamp last time I checked.

Possibly a good thing really :)

That said - given I’m a team lead IRL - a job which involves helping and supporting team members to get the best from them, I do like to think I’m pretty helpful in game especially in group content and I only call failure when I’m not being left any choice.

I also am a Finance guy who invests- so, yeah, wheeling and dealing to build up the gold pile?

Yeah I definitely do that lol.

I have a "me toon", even looking a lot like me - or at least how I looked when I made him in 2016. But it goes a bit further still:

    - He's a Nord, I am Swedish
    - He's a Templar, I'm a former combat medic and I dabble with traditional herbalism/healing
    - He has a (Dwemer) Theodolite pet, I'm currently a construction engineer
    - He's into Dwemer research ("RP wise"), and collects Dwemer artifacts (in housing), I love Antique studies and have collected quite a few old Roman/Germanic/Norse artifacts myself
    - He's my main crafter, I do or have been doing blacksmithing, leathercraft and silversmithing, besides actually making herbal potions and so on

For other toons, I tend to have some "ideas", but it doesn't stretch further than the name/class/looks. The above one, is the only one with "a real soul", so to say.

As an Italian I've always loved imperial lore and culture obviously because it's so similar to the Roman aesthetic. I remember when I first played oblivion I was totally immersed in that game for weeks just looking at the architecture. In eso 6/9 of my guys are imperials the other there are breton because I wanted some magic characters. So yeah if you dont think I'm thinking in my head "for the empire" every time I get a good look at my guy, you'd be wrong.
