How does your ESO playstyle reflect who you are IRL?

Above ALL, I LOVE being independent. I absolutely freaking hate being dependent on others regarding to basically anything. For that reason i picked up crafting and spent about 2 years researching all traits. I am a lone wolf IRL and a lone wolf ingame, pugging is all i do and i LOVE having no obligations to guilds or people. My friendlist is at 0 ingame, in real life i have abandoned most of my relationships with friends. My fiance and my dog is all i need. This goes back to when a very near friend of mine ditching me after a lifetime ( 15- 25 ) of friendship. That clearly changed me , a lot - regarding to relationships with other people.

Also, at one point in my life i was a GM for a raiding guild in wow (i was know as "the cow" , my main was Tauren paladin lol). Back then wow was a huge part of my life and i put a lot of energy and effort into the guild i payed for ppl subscriptions, spent crazy amount of time learning fights and organising raids, helpt ppl out etc ). Things eventually fell apart and i felt betrayed by my guildies, it left me feeling broken/devastated. After that, about 10 years ago i think, ive never been active in any guild or social in any way in online games.

ill do anything to solo group content - as far as its possible. I have my own pimped out house ingame with a LOT of crafting stations, cool stuff and mundus stones. I have acquired decent amounts of gold ( at 35 mill at the moment ) and i never ask anyone for anything, except tips on builds etc. Im generous and often give things away but i dont excpect anything back. Beying determined got me to flawless , which took me a LOT of time. I have similar projects IRL where i set a goal to do certificates for work ( currently working on MCSA / IT )and other goals like an apartament for my mom etc.

I also have a temper and have whispered not so nice comment to people that pissed me off in PVP. I made a thread about controlling emotions in PVP and thanks to your advice, that i really took to heart, its gotten a lot better.

So yeah, how does your ingame self reflect who you are IRL?

Hopefully, not much at all since this is a video game where you kill things on a regular basis.
I mean, I haven't walked around town just picking up alchemy mats or ore for some time. I need to get back to that!

On a serious note, I think I've told this story before, but seems like a good fit for this topic.

I have a real life friend who plays ESO. We work together, and I see him almost daily. Let's call him Kevin.

Kevin is a real sweet guy. Always there to lend a helping hand, say a kind word, or buy you a soda...just because. Intelligent, thoughtful, and kind...in real life.

Put this man in any MMO...ESO, WoW, Guild Wars...literally any game, and he becomes a monster. He's an elitist. He mocks your gear, he tells you you're awful, if you kill him in PvP, he'll whisper you horrendous things that I can't repeat here. Not in the "I'm trying to help" way...he wants you to understand he is superior to you in every way. He once out dps the entire group in a WoW raid by a entire 1/2 percent and would not shut up about how he carried the entire team and how we should all be licking his boots. (It was way worse, but can't express what he actually said without forum mods losing thier minds)

He actually honestly wonders why people dont like gaming with him anymore, and repeatedly telling him to tone down the attitude has done little to nothing. It's as if he can't help himself.

Wonderful guy in life, a monster in gaming.

I put very little stock in how people act in game compared to real life.

Sounds like you’ve got some issues to deal with bruv. Though starting by publicizing what you see as the root of your self-perceived “independence” on a public forum is a good move I’d say. Not exactly a “Lone Wolf” maneuver, but it does give hope that the injured puppy in you can sort things out ;)

I'm not sure how much my actual play style reflects my personality but I'm just me in-game. I keep mostly to myself, I'll usually team up if approached (which very rarely happens) and I'm not unfriendly... or at least I don't think that I am... but I don't seek out company. PVP holds no interest to me and I'm not competitive at all irl, so there's that, but my favorite game activities are murdering npcs for the dark brotherhood and stealing things. That tends to surprise people. When it comes to social stuff I'm pretty much the same wherever we might meet- quiet but not extremely so, and easygoing.

I'm always very clear that my characters are not me and do not look or act like me - either the way I really am or the way I would like to be. And they do a lot of things I have never done and would never want to do, killing people for one.

But there are some small things I do in RPGs which I'd do in real life if I could. The main one is exploring pretty much at random, just going towards whatever seems interesting. I like travelling in real life but when I'm in an unfamiliar place I'm always careful not to get lost or end up too far from where I'm staying, not to get stuck or trapped and of course not to put myself in danger.

In games I don't have to worry about any of that. It doesn't matter if by the time I want to sleep I'm 100 miles from where I started with no clue where I am because I just stop playing and then I'm at home. I can leap over a precipice to see how far down it goes, or go cave diving with zero planning to see if there's anything inside. The worst that can happen is I have to reload or fast travel to get out, so why not go recklessly exploring?

irl im a slightly sociopathic introvert. i care about a few people alot and see others as ncps.
in eso i welcome new players and are good to most.
    then comes pvp.
i consider myself a pker. aka i kill players. no objective, i just hunt and kill. never comment much tho. kill in silence.
tbh im nicer to the average person in eso than irl.
    thats disturbing

Beats me lol. I'm a big PvPer, and I prefer aggressive melee builds that always use a longsword (2-handed sword). I also like playing as characters that look like myself so being 6'5" at 230 lbs I always play as a Nord in Elder Scrolls games. Other than that I'm an USAF medic waiting to get into the IPAP program (P.A. school for the military). I have my bachelor's in biomedical sciences, and I'm a husband and soon-to-be father. Personality type is INTJ via Myer Briggs.

Gonna have to agree here, sorry Kel. I don't think that people act that way unless that IS part of who they are.

I've been part of an online community for over 15 years. There's one woman who has been there for about as long as I have who has been a raging, terrible b* the entire time. Seriously heinous... racist, hateful comments, mocking mental health issues, and she's even mocked one of the other members who's currently dealing with terminal cancer. Just a vile person all-around; when she's not insulting people personally, she's posting nonstop pictures of female celebrities and tearing them to shreds appearance-wise (this is an all-women online community btw).

But.... she's met probably several dozen of the members in real-life. Their story is always the same: she's soft-spoken and very nice in person. You'd never know that she spews hate online all day. But I just don't think you can separate a person's behavior online from how they act in real-life, even if it's night and day different. It just shows that you have a nasty side to you and it takes certain situations to bring it out.

As for the OP.... I'm very shy in real life; I don't generally approach people myself and am pretty slow to open up. For whatever reason I have zero issues with this when it comes to things like Discord; I will happily join voice comms if pugs require it and will talk to a group of strangers there with zero issues. I guess it's because we all have something to talk about already though; I'm not walking up to a group of strangers where I have zero ideas on what the topic of conversation may be.

Not entirely in agreement. I can only speak for myself personally, but I try to be respectful irl as well as in-game. However, in game people are disrespectful all the time (including forums), and I typically don't even bother addressing it because it's a waste of time. In person though, I would not be as lenient. Thankfully most people are quite polite to me in person. I don't think I would assume everyone behaves the same way; especially in an RPG where people like to take on different personas in order to feel immersed.

I try to be a kind and considerate person both irl and in-game. I find no satisfaction in being an a-hole to people, as I have no epeen or irl ego to stroke. I feel better when the person I helped is happy.

And I’m an absolute doof with my friends.

At 40 with a wife, kid, family and a few close friends I stick pretty close to my core group of people in real life. I tend to believe the majority of people in real life suck.

In ESO I mainly solo and have joined a couple guilds that seem to have pretty close core group. Unlike other mmos I've played like swtor and wow I have found the in game community in ESO doesnt suck and is pretty good.

So in real life and in eso I pretty much stick to myself and a core group of individuals.
