I have a real life friend who plays ESO. We work together, and I see him almost daily. Let's call him Kevin.
Kevin is a real sweet guy. Always there to lend a helping hand, say a kind word, or buy you a soda...just because. Intelligent, thoughtful, and kind...in real life.
Put this man in any MMO...ESO, WoW, Guild Wars...literally any game, and he becomes a monster. He's an elitist. He mocks your gear, he tells you you're awful, if you kill him in PvP, he'll whisper you horrendous things that I can't repeat here. Not in the "I'm trying to help" way...he wants you to understand he is superior to you in every way. He once out dps the entire group in a WoW raid by a entire 1/2 percent and would not shut up about how he carried the entire team and how we should all be licking his boots. (It was way worse, but can't express what he actually said without forum mods losing thier minds)
He actually honestly wonders why people dont like gaming with him anymore, and repeatedly telling him to tone down the attitude has done little to nothing. It's as if he can't help himself.
Wonderful guy in life, a monster in gaming.
I put very little stock in how people act in game compared to real life.
I suspect, the person he is in real life, is an hallucination, he projects what it's useful for him. The person he is ingame, is the real deal. You might wanna try find people who work the other way around. You're dealing with a sociopath
I think a sociopath is something all together but making a judgement call about someone's friend based on 3rd party forum information is a bit sociopathic.
Look it up if you have to, and no, sadly not I don't get off that easy

Aptonoth✭✭✭✭✭I solo too. I’m naturally a loner for the most part. I have a few friends and family I spend time with once a week and that’s it. So few good rpg’s get made I play eso to fill the urge. I also like to steal in game and do lots of crafting.1

Not in the "I'm trying to help" way...he wants you to understand he is superior to you in every way. He once out dps the entire group in a WoW raid by a entire 1/2 percent and would not shut up about how he carried the entire team and how we should all be licking his boots. (It was way worse, but can't express what he actually said without forum mods losing thier minds)
He actually honestly wonders why people dont like gaming with him anymore, and repeatedly telling him to tone down the attitude has done little to nothing. It's as if he can't help himself.

Actually who he's being in real life, is a practical manipulator, his true face is who he is when he thinks noone's looking, or when his true personality could be detrimental to his circumstances in real life. But the OP says they used to play with this person, so they were looking XD There's a difference between being hyper competitive and it turning you into a huge jerk and being an actual sociopath. If he was really manipulating people for his own practical benefit this would have extended to the video games he plays with coworkers to keep up appearances. A sociopath doesn't just get diagnosed via a paragraph via internet forum, you need an actual psychological profile. It's something to be taken very seriously and I think just labeling people serious things they aren't doesn't help anyone.

I like playing rogues and healers. In real life I’m 6’, played Rugby and Football at a high level (provincial/state teams), am competitive and love complexity.
Why rogues? Well I’m the opposite in real life, I’m basicly a goody two shoes and don’t like j-walking.
Then experience too. I can’t seem to ever play MMOs casually. I always think, this time I’ll be one of those casual players. Never happens. Instead I throw myself into it and min-max like crazy. Path✭✭✭✭✭So I am a bit like my gaming rig.
Some parts are up to date, some are very much behind.
What that means is I play with what I have and I don't stress over what I don't have, or haven't bothered to research.
My skills are all over the place. When players say, "LF healer, DPS, Tank" I'm never really sure where I belong.
If they ask, "LFG, Gonna kill big stuff, come on out!" Ya well, I'm in.
I do collect Flutterbys (Always thought that was a better name for butterflies, Do they even like butter?)
I stop and take screenshots. Lots of them.
I like fishing. Figure that out. Hate it in real life or "reel life" unless it's trout fishing. Gotta be moving. Always wanted to learn to fly fish.
Mastered all crafting. Not sure why. Perhaps because I never die leveling.
Adore when random people chat in spatial. There are very few that brave that oh so old form of communication and perhaps friendship.
So I am pretty much me in the game. Not looking for bigger, better. Not trying to be more than I am. Happy running around my real world and those created by amazing designers. Happy to see what all these worlds have to offer.

I don't eat fresh water fish and that's all we have here.... well, HE doesn't want them either so it was mostly catch and release. So once again we (he and I - married 44 years last month) are at one in at least that one thing in our lives.
We actually did love deep sea fishing out of Washington, for salmon. And when he went to Alaska with relatives and friends, we had salmon for a year! He loved the trip, and I loved the fish. That was many years back now. And so was the trip to Colorado for elk, and the other trip there for pheasant.
The elk and pheasant were.... SCRUMPTIOUS;. There is nothing better than meat/fish you harvest yourself, butcher yourself, and know that when you cook it, you are eating the fruits of your own labors.
Not to mention that should (as seems quite likely these days) the world go to hell in a handbasket, we (husband and me) can manage to live on what we hunt and gather....4 -

I forage, chanterelles, berries, herbs, Scuppernong, muscadine, dandelion...whatever.

Oh been there done that! We actually don't hunt any more (seriously.... too old.... he's 85, I'm 71). I.... don't have any use for catfish.... but it's fine that others love them. We actually don't have a lot of deer (mulies here) in excess, but at least our small (VERY small....) town is excluded from hunting. I had some idiot in bow season years back shooting INTO my horse corrals.... You would have laughed yourself silly had you seen me out there naked (serious) with a rifle threatening that bozo! I kid you not, he was IN my corral trying to get his arrows back.... My RP characters all have a great antipathy towards authority and they relish in toppling tyrants and despots. They're the insurgents and never the pacifists; I suspect this might be some of my own repressed resentment percolating through towards constraints. Even my Altmer Priestess is a radical in terms of hierarchy and abolishing archaic practices.1 -

✭IRL im a widowed man in his 20s with sociopathic tendencies. As person Im completely empty inside and i dont care about others, but i still treat them with the respect they deserve, i only have 2 friends and both of them saved my life before and ive saved theirs too.
Im a huge fan of self-development and always strive to become smarter, stronger and more powerful as person. And i dream of becoming a succesful writer of fantasy novels.
INGAME however my friendlist is full, mostly from ppl that wanted something from me sometime.
I never cook in eso i always buy food.
I never steal or pickpocket.
Im mostly a solo player in PvP and almost never pve unless im farming for something specific for PvP.
I always experiment with different sets and builds, in search for more or even unknown power.
Im not really a helpful person, but i want to change that.

Some are closer to my real-life style, but I specifically try to play a variety of roles. I come from a pen-and-paper RPG background, though, so that's probably part of it. As far as how I personally act on an out of character level, it's pretty much the same as how I act in person. My online persona and my in-person persona are largely similar.0
