I felt the writ drop rate was pretty decent, enough to have spares to trade for the full set, and not so stingy that you needed to buy.
Improvements like the Wasp Nest were great.
Still waiting for Runeboxes to be fixed so you can move them around more easily though.

After doing these quests for so many years there is a certain wonderful Fishmassy nostalgia to them. Like it doesn't feel like Fishmas without them.

Saying that as this one has done these quests since Brenda first set up her mead tent she does not do them perhaps as much as she first did.

This one sent her new apprentice Snowstorm Claws to do the quests as part of his training most days but still only managed to obtain about five of the new writs throughout.

There were enough event tickets though to get the style pages this one wished for.

Other rewards overall felt … poor. No new runeboxes or recipes and, as they do not stack or bank, an inventory clogged up with them again.

Style pages are a mixed blessing this one feels as you cannot mix them with a costume i.e. wear a nice dress and the outfit page hat together.

It is also time for the Imperials to have a Fishmas quest of some kind. So unfair to leave them out always.

Events become filler. Less focus on something new. Its recycled.

I know I don't have to do them. I didn't do this year's New Life for the above reasons.

ESO gets 4 updates a year which is A LOT for an mmo - these events are fillers yes, but they are fast and easy to do for zos - your argument would only make sense if the events would detract from a lot of development resources which could be spent elsewhere which i doubt is the case...

it all comes down to how much development time spent vs how much of an impact to how wide of an audience you can achieve

I think one event in between quarterly releases is more than enough. Too much, like the schedule we had this year could be exhausting to those people who did want to participate in the events.
There would be less pressure, though, if we were assured the events would come again on a regular schedule, like in SWTOR. But I guess the keep-em-guessing factor is the marketing plan to keep people frantic with scarcity mentality.

I can kind of see it. Events can be fun and/or profitable. Double telvar and a flood of people made IC much more interesting for a while, for example. Of course, since it's limited, it makes you want to get the most out of it while it's active. End of year is especially packed with events, so a little breather to return to the other things you normally do while playing is welcome.

It's the same event as it was before - far too many activities in my taste that you have to do daily if you want maximum boxes. New outfit style was nice, but locked again behind rather mediocre drop rates. Nothing beautiful anyway.

I appreciate the little touches that made some of the activities less horrid. "Encroaching Wildlife" spawns much faster and 5 at once, Betnikh wolves and wasps drop required mats in single kill, opening chests and running seemed to give a little more time. I only hope that ZoS can do the same treatment to other events as well.

    Pretty much.

That's the kind of Anniversary event I enjoyed. One that rewarded you for doing the DLC. IC is often so empty, but that got people into a zone and being (more or less) multi-player-y.

New Life, Witches' Fest, and those of that model are just 'do-the-same-dailies' again. I know there are new people every year, and good for them to do it! Great stuff!

I'm glad they added in some new recipes for Witches' Fest. The new tank gold food, and so easily obtained was great. I have no idea how much time it would take to make (even if just new skins) of these quests, but, I can only jump off the bridge in Eastmarch so many times.

Anyways, that's my unpopular opinion and my debrief for ZOS. TL; DR: more IC; less New Life.

I liked it. It was my first time going through it and I genuinely found it amusing at times. Everyone congregating around the fishing holes was relaxing and enjoyable too. I was excited for the rewards and think they fit well as a seasonal thing.

But I am personally over dailies. There's enough things to do on a daily basis already and one more isn't something I look forward to doing (or avoiding). I understand their purpose and I'd like to think they're mostly effective and well-received, but I wish there was... less. I want to feel like an explorer again, before I realized there's a lot of upkeep on maintaining money or materials.

    good:

many tickets, option to buy older indrik feathers

    as usual, double xp

    bad:

extremely boring, as not different as last year

as typical for events, people farm and sell less materials, so a stack of Bast actually costs 60k on xbox NA (300 gold for 1 bast!)

So I just did what was required to get the tickets, I did not actually enjoy the content of the event.

To level up 5 new toons, the xp bonus was fine.
I am glad though that it is over, hope prices soon will get normal again in guildstores.

I’m going to be grumpy about my obliterated heartwood supply for a while. grumble grumble, all of them requiring 12 pieces, who thought that was a good idea for a holiday event?? At least the old ones were a mix of single- and twelve-item writs. Harrumph.

But I really appreciated that they made the Betnikh one less of a hassle. No more scouring the place for those stupid wasps :)

If your cooldown needs its own warning message, that means the cooldown is too long. If the message triggers more than once during the cooldown, it means the cooldown is way too long and you should probably replace your user experience testers. ;)

Saying that as this one has done these quests since Brenda first set up her mead tent she does not do them perhaps as much as she first did.
Haha - I chose to call her Brenda, too, mainly because 'Return to Sender' kept popping into my head after completing a task.

This is my first year of ESO and I've been assiduous in partaking in all the events' daily tasks, ticket- and collectible-collecting since I started playing, halfway through the Jubilee Celebration (when I didn't have a clue what was going on)... until this one.

It didn't feel particularly festive to me, it was just another ESO event. On top of that, I found Brenda's daily tasks very boring and, eventually, arduous, so I cut them down to one a day, just to get the event tickets.

I also found that the writs (I got half of my Skaal stuff and the 12-New Life Writs award through them) consumed an obscene amount of Heartwood that I just wasn't prepared to sacrifice. I suppose that ridiculous expense was a reflection of the true meaning of Christmas, though.

My only problem with the event is that the Impresario didn't have anything that I wanted to buy. I have all the indriks and didn't care for the style pages this time around so when I hit 12 tickets, I had to stop doing the event. I will sit on them until the next event in the hopes that there is something I want.

One question, though... what am I supposed to do with all the Runeboxes? Are they just worthless now if they're already in my collection? (I have the same question about other event things like the Jubilee Cake ticket and also quest starter letters - they're all hanging around in my inventories... not talking about mementos, just the guff that clogs up the inventory.)

The sheer plenitude of guff from this event was something else that convinced me to slow down with it.

Over the last 12 months we’ve had 16+ Events, which is a lot and certainly felt like it at times. And all for a bunch of rather crappy Indriks....

Some were genuinely fun, I was actually glad that Witches was extended (due to the inevitable PC EU systems crash) and it felt as though it should always have been 14 days. I did more group arenas then than in the rest of the year combined. The double XP meant I could take 2 characters from 0 - 50 relatively quickly.

Some felt as if they had overstayed their welcome. The 5 week Anniversary Event ended up feeling way too long and bloated, especially as it topped a first quarter stuffed full of other Events.

Some were just bad. The continued failure of the Group Finder meant both Midyear Mayhem and Undaunted were tedious disasterfests that reinforced the feeling that little care and attention is going into the running of the game.

    What I like about events
    - they pull lots of people into the same content. So Wrothgar World Bosses become doable to get your ‘do 30 of them’ achievement, or many people want to do ICP or Blackrose Prison, and many people will be trying these for the first time
    - they’re generally good natured and positive
    - Double XP
    - They’re slightly frivolous, which is good because we can all be a little po-faced about the game sometimes
    - Some of the rewards are useful and fun
    - ZOS have put in a (minimal) amount of effort addressing choke points (esp quest related node spawning) which made some quests annoying PvP resource battles

What I don’t like about events
    - After playing for a year they are boring and repetitive. There is a fig leaf of new stuff (a recipe!, a motif!) tacked on, with the ‘Charity Writ’ being the latest lame idea (an idea so past its prime that New Life now has 2 sets of Charity Writs), but essentially we could all tell you exactly how the next ‘no effort spent’ Jester’s Festival will go and what the 3 tedious tasks will be right now. That’s a real recipe for no fun at all.
    - There are too many. If everything is an Event and special, then ultimately nothing is special.
    [snip]
    - Indriks, I don’t like them at all
    - Non-stacking, bag blocking rewards are offensive
    - The Nord Bathers Towel is so low res it almost feels like an antique. It also dyes very badly. Again no effort has been spent to improve something that could have a big, fun impact.

On balance, I’d like to see fewer, better thought out and implemented events in 2020. With more thought going into improving and updating the event elements, rewards and achievements

    And no bloody Indriks thanks.

    Edit for profanity and bashing.
