Just to put some of these rumors to bed:

    1. We are not banning addons in the next patch.
    2. The “API guy” did not die.

Well, that's one way to leave the door open ...

    1. Not in the next patch, but i didn't say anything about any patch after that.
    2. He's alive, but i didn't say if he was still working for ZOS. Or if he's in fact still "the API guy". Maybe he got hit by a bus. Maybe he left ZOS. Maybe he got fired. We may not have any API guys anymore since we're planning to scrap the AddOn API at some point after the next patch. In fact, for a company of our size, it's a bit strange to just have one API guy anyways. Maybe we decided to do the same for the API guy(s) as we did with the QA team after launch, you know, fire them all since clearly they weren't needed anymore.

I'll sit back and wait for the rumor-mongers, nit-pickers and conspiracy theorists to read Gina's comments and draw from them first that she didn't say they weren't planning on banning addons, merely that it wouldn't be in the next patch, and second that she didn't say that the "API guy" was well and still with the company, just that he wasn't dead  !

Of course. Loopholes are critical to the survival of these sorts of rumors.
True, however eye and breathing holes in an tinfoil armor is obvious weaknesses like holes in the bottom of an boat and should be avoided even if inconvenient.

Time to lock this useless thread.
Wait. Nvm. "next patch" guess they'll probably disable them to "improve performance."

I need my addons. Mini-map- skyshards- lorebooks- psijic portals.

There is a rumor floating about that they are banning addons next patch? Are people just trolling or is this true? Because I think I would quit. The base UI looks so generic.

There can be an arguement for some addons needing to go such as being able to create your own titles. Yet many of the addons account for the lack of ui to the base game. Really, no mini map?

At the same time, some game feature give unfair advantages such as tab targetting an opponent. What's that, out of sight? Well execept your sillioute, still see you! Teleport and reverse time? I know right where you are

if zos bans mods they need to add the base mods like lorebook and skyshard map locations and increase UI options. but I don't get why people want all those huge numbers and other crap on there UI I love simple UIs

How dare you believe that rumors? they (ZOS) may add some sort of addon certification, to pass allowed addons and forbid cheat ones. Completely removing addons = killing this game.

ZOS will not ban all addons. No reason for that.

It would not be a smart move on their part. You may call some balance decisions questionable, and question the wisdom of the people who made those balance decisions. But no one at ZOS is stupid enough to pull the API and ban addons.

Now, will they remove some API calls that can affect performance or give an unfair advantage or invade privacy, maybe. In fact, they have done just this in the past. But these actions have only affected a select few addons. And, these were addons that were causing a lot of drama for one reason or another.

Not surprising given this is the same company who gave us the "Skyrim: Creation Club", which is just one step before banning all free addons and only allow certified addons which you can download from crown store.

Having crown only add-ons is by definition P2W. Lets hope it does not go that way.

Absolute nonsense, the difference between what’s possible to download via creation club and addons is night and day. Creation club allows for full adaptation of your game and whole new stories. That only works in a single player game, wouldn’t work in a MMO.

Just wanted to remind everyone that Bethesda kinda started the whole add on/ modding thing when they released the "Construction Disk" with TES3 Morrowind in 2002?
They taught us how to mod games.
I don't believe at all they would take that away and Gina kinda confirmed it.

Zenimax Media Inc owns Bethesda. It also owns Zenimax Online Studios (which make ESO) and a handful of other development studios, publishers and other companies. The "Z" for moderators and community managers here does not indicate the owner of Bethesda, but ZOS.

That is not really true. Game modding goes much further back than that, including developers giving players tools to mod the games. I remember Ultima Online, released in 1997, had heavy use of mods. Nexus Mods alone supports 859 moddable games as of right now.

I will grant you that modding has become a bit of a hallmark of Bethesda games, but the company did not invent or start game modding.

Why should ZOS stop a free market research? They can take a look what addons are downloaded multiple times and if there is an addon thats a huge QOL Improvement for all players and not much work for them to implement it into the base game, they will do it (seen on multicraft).

I have 9 crafters that I do the dailies on. 1 grand Master Crafter to do all the writs I get. I understand the tedious nature of it.

I don't think that is reason enough to quit a game because an addon is being removed that does the work for you. Maybe people need a little self reliance instead of relying on machine code to do the work.

Doing the daily writ quests without an addon is pretty quick and easy, to be honest.

I've never used an addon for that.

It's a bit tedious (especially, I would imagine, if you have multiple chars you do it on), but it's not hard.

What isn't quick and easy, is trying to work out which writs you can do and how much they will cost to do per voucher.
