WoW definitely has children. Lot's of them even and much to my surprise they aren't annoying or in the way like the ones in Skyrim were. So it definitely can be done, but do you trust ZOS to succeed on that front?

It has a few, but it doesn't have lots of them.

You could go for days and not see one child NPC.

Or, at least, that was what it was like when I last played it, about 5 years ago (in WoD).

Might be kids everywhere by now, I don't know.

Those are the new style char models - not the original ones.

Maybe in older content. But not really in Legion and Battle for Azeroth. There is even world quests involving children, like the one in Zuldazar where the Zandalari children stole some scrolls to turn themselves into dinosaurs. Or the Kultiran children asking you "Yarr! Do I sound like a pirate?"

Not sure if this counts, but this quest is to me anyway about a child and voiced by a child.

I suspect having to make child models, animations, voices, etc of each race would be a considerable amount of effort that they opted not to pursue.

From a video game ratings standpoint, yes.

Video games being hypocritical about morals?! Say it ain't so!

SWTOR did have children, there was the quest on Ord Mantell, and on Coruscant. And I’m pretty sure there’s some sitting around on Nar Shaddaa’s worker camp.

I assume it has to do with additional clutter.

Because there are simply no children at all. I mean, who would want to raise kids in Tamriel, where monsters or ferocious beats lurk at every corner?

the bigger question is why do people want to constantly waste finite development resources on nonsense that adds nothing or very little to the game...

Ty my point of kids being nonsense and they add nothing lol

They are all locked away in an orphanage. If they weren't we would not have the New Life War Orphan's Sojourn quest.

I mean, they could just shrink adult models and change their faces a bit. They did new face models for the dagis and the nagas, so it wouldn't really be much of a problem...

Also some of the regular voice actress in the game have done child voice in the past. (Like Kath Soucie who voices Naryu in the game. And I think Tara Strong voices some bosmers in the game too)

Probably has to do with all the NPCs being killable and ESRB would probably refuse a rating for killable children.

It's a moral standpoint the gaming industry have in general, not able to harm kids. In a game where you can murder citizens it would be quite weird if you couldn't kill the children if they existed. Since most people that go on a killingspree probably aren't that choosy if it's an adult or a kid.
And children wouldn't add anything to the game, it was a good move to leave them out entirely, even to the degree of not mentioning them.

Saved zos having to explain why they chose to include children in a game where you can kill civilians at a whim and therefore not having to take any moral standpoint.

This is the reason why. There is no reason to speculate any further.

Personally, I don't think children really add anything to the game and would be a waste of resources.

My question to OP and those that want to see kids in the game - why? What would it add for you?

Well, having children around, even unkillable children, would be more immersive and realistic than the childless ESO world.

On the other hand, this is a world where I can cook anything by stirring a single bowl and occasionally licking my finger, so I'm not too hung up on immersion and reality.

I hadn't thought about the immersion issue, so that's a good point. Frankly, I didn't even notice the lack of children for literal years, until my wife pointed it out to me and I was pretty immersed. Different strokes for different folks I guess?

No one wants the idea of real responsibility when they are gaming, and children innately make you feel responsible for your actions. They are better left out of the equation when we want to toss responsibility out the window while gaming.

Yeah, in BFA especially, there are kids everywhere. Several of the quests on both Alliance and Horde side involve children.

The game is focused on a lots of killing and action/adventure stuff. We know that children exist but instantiating them would distract from that too much, or render it tasteless. Much like going to the bathroom (I have been with my character for a long time and I have not seen him relieve himself once). It's awkward when it comes to simulating a reality, but still an understandable design decision.

You don't even really need children when you have the itty bitty Bosmeri

Honestly though, I won't mind them adding children to the game. I do realise every once in a while that something is strange and "oh yeah, there's literally no children anywhere". So it is a bit immersion breaking. But if the game runs better without it, I guess it's a fair sacrifice.

So, the reason given at launch was licensing in other countires - like Germany - that have stricter regulations than the US on showing children with violence. Most of ESO is a war zone, and while we in the US may not think much of the psychological horrors of insanity, not all of the world shares our views.

WoW did have children, as does Tera. Just the ones I know of, probably more.
