The responsibility of taking care of children is antithetical to running around doing quests, fighting daedra, engaging in thievery and assassination, and generally living a life of fantasy.

Children were mentioned in TES4:Oblivion by a hungry, creepy character at one of the Daedric shrines, but I think TES5:Skyrim is the only ES game that actually has children in it.

Well, there's Central Elsweyr, but that's just for Khajiit.

There are also plenty of sewers, so maybe people just do their business over those manhole covers. :s

the bigger question is why do people want to constantly waste finite development resources on nonsense that adds nothing or very little to the game...

It's a moral standpoint the gaming industry have in general, not able to harm kids. In a game where you can murder citizens it would be quite weird if you couldn't kill the children if they existed. Since most people that go on a killingspree probably aren't that choosy if it's an adult or a kid.
And children wouldn't add anything to the game, it was a good move to leave them out entirely, even to the degree of not mentioning them.

Saved zos having to explain why they chose to include children in a game where you can kill civilians at a whim and therefore not having to take any moral standpoint.

Before the invention of toilets, people used buckets and chamber pots. They were emptied in the simplest method available, sometimes right onto the street. In more sophisticated areas, refuse and discharge went into sewers or pits (to be cleaned out later). The only time towns and cities got reasonably cleaned was when the rains came.

Did you notice ESO has many NPCs you cant kill or steal from them? No problem here if there were unkillable childrens.

No I've actually not noticed them, only tried the killing spree thing one time, thought you could basically kill everyone except some quest givers and merchants 😁 you learn something new everyday, even after playing this game for 5 years lol

I guess they don’t want to point out that little Timmy ended up being a flesh atronach left buttcheek. So its easier to have adult victims. Which is sad because there is a Lore Book in TES5 that tells a story of a young kid that gets his heart ripped out and soul captured by a dremora.

I don't recall any mmo I've played that had children... WoW didn't, neither rift, Warframe, swtor or Neverwinter at least.

I'm sure it would cause performance issues to add more unnecessary npcs running around.

WoW definitely has children. Lot's of them even and much to my surprise they aren't annoying or in the way like the ones in Skyrim were. So it definitely can be done, but do you trust ZOS to succeed on that front?

They seem to avoid having child NPCs in MMOs, presumably due to horrible things happening to them being even more disturbing than horrible things happening to adults.

Also, if you had playable child characters, there would probably be a few weirdos doing virtual things to them, in the ESO equivalent of the Goldshire Inn (wherever that would be?).

Not harming them is not much of an problem, you could not harm npc at all before the justice system and lot in addition to merchants and questgivers.

However it would be plenty of work, just for decoration, you wound need child models for all the races and lots of different clothing and voice actors. They would replace some of the random npc but you would still end up with more.

WOW has a few children, its even an seasonal quest there you escort one, she became an non combat pet and that she is used for. people take them with them raiding :)
Grinding just make you go in circles.
Asking ZoS for nerfs is as stupid as asking for close air support from the death star.

WoW is full of children, no fuss about it at all, you can't harm them and that is it.

"Children are unkillable NPCs. They cannot be attacked and are not caught in Area of Effect attacks. Presumably, the designers feel that the possibility of killing children would not be appropriate game content. Games that allow violence against children would get higher content ratings in some countries.

While the children introduced in the original game and The Burning Crusade lacked voice clips (barring Anduin Wrynn) and remain as such to this day, pandaren and nightborne children do possess voice clips."

There is even great event about it:
"Children's Week is the time of year in which players focus on giving back to the children of the Horde and Alliance - innocent victims of the ongoing faction war (and their efforts versus Lich King). Orphaned children are available to be temporarily "adopted" from matrons and taken to visit various locations and people throughout Azeroth and Outland."

Not sure why it is all so philosophical here.

It has a few, but it doesn't have lots of them.

You could go for days and not see one child NPC.

Or, at least, that was what it was like when I last played it, about 5 years ago (in WoD).

Might be kids everywhere by now, I don't know.

Those are the new style char models - not the original ones.

I've always thought this was a rather large flaw, & certainly somewhat immersion breaking, for a game of this scope with so many NPCs roaming around. It seems a fairly easy step to just make some of these NPCs, kids.
