Veteran Dungeon Finder

Bogdano
Bogdano
Does the role playing bring out the worst in some people? I understand that some people are very proficient at every dungeon and have limited time available to play. When someone uses the dungeon finder to form a 4 person group, a less experienced person may be thrown into the mix.
If the members of a team don't want to extend courtesy to a less experienced person, then they need to become friends with each other, form their own private group and stop using dungeon finder.

Random finder gives you... a random group. Sometimes they might not be the nicest people. Or they indeed might be in a rush and not in the mood to teach someone new. Deal with it or follow your own advice and form your own group.

if you ahve ANY specific demands to your group

(no matter slow/fast run, exp/noobs, RP etc just ANY)

don't use finder and form your own pre-made group

this will save a lot of neurall cells for both you and those who use DF

I am dealing with it. I disabled my add-on that made maps hard to decipher. I am becoming a better tank. I farmed Crypt of Hearts to make the Alcast build for my nightblade. Now I am undaunted and collecting keys to put together the head and shoulder sets. So I am required to venture into alliances with dungeon finder.
The instructions of Maj LaRath (spelling may be wrong) don't always specify which of 4 possible dungeons must be completed. I will try to stay out of veteran dungeons, to avoid the ill-tempered hasty folks. I tried 3 of the 4 possible combinations for one of the required dungeons before I found the correct one in one instance.

The most recent one that got be booted and threatened with a report, was not easy to see which of the computer generated enemy was the boss. Playing as a tank requires me to taunt the boss and protect the other players from the boss. I think the first one was a miniboss, I missed it and quickly ended up removed from the area.

As you can expect, farming Crypt of Hearts I and II in regular in veteran modes, developed some tank skills.

Making friends is not as easy in ESO as one might expect. For instance, if I select a nearby potential friend and circle the selection to send friend request, does it do that when I release the key or do I have to hit a keyboard key afterward?

This is pretty blunt but correct. The group finder is best left to those with experience and thick skin. New/inexperienced players should find a guild where they can run content with people willing to teach, and there are plenty of them constantly posting in zone chat. You can spare yourself a lot of grief if you invest some time in finding the right group of players to run with.

Ah, I googled it and discovered that when I release the F key, it automatically sends the request. So the vast majority of players have too many friends already.
Well there may be some guild members in one of the guilds I have joined with whom I can form a group....

Hint, dont combine random and vet :)
Random normal or vet pledges works almost all of the time. Random vet can put you in some hard places.
Grinding just make you go in circles.
Asking ZoS for nerfs is as stupid as asking for close air support from the death star.

OP, Maj al-Ragath will always specify one of the dungeons. If the clues she gives in her text aren't enough, looking at your quest journal will tell you which dungeon is the pledge. Open the tab for the zone the dungeon is in and it will say Pledge: Cyrpt of Hearts II, for example.

Word of advice, if you effectively communicate at the start of the dungeon that you are new to the dungeon, and request someone give you a heads up on any must-know mechanics you will find that most people will have no issue guiding you through the dungeon. Especially if you are on a harder role to fill such as a tank. This wont always be the case however, if you are playing a tank, and you get into a dungeon that is heavily reliant on the tank playing his role well, you will still find yourself on the receiving end of what you might call toxicity. You know, something like veteran Bloodroot Forge, veteran Scalecaller Peak, etc. It isn't really others being toxic though.

If you are not playing your role in the group at a level that would allow you to complete the dungeon then you will probably be kicked. Even then though, communication (even just text chat) is key, and you will find most players are more than willing to help you. Players will adjust their skills, adjust their play style, and try to fill the gaps to relieve pressure on the one struggling until it gets to a point where it is clearly obvious they just are not ready for whatever content they are trying to complete. You really shouldn't take that the wrong way. They shouldn't all leave to form a new group either... Just take that as a sign that you could improve, and keep playing. I've completed some of the hardest content in this game, and even I have been kicked from PUG groups at times. It happens to everyone.

You are allowed to join 5 guilds, I would suggest doing just that...there are plenty of RP guilds out there if that is your schtick.

You should be able to build 4 man groups for dungeon runs with no problems, unless you are playing at really odd hours.

Just throwing out random friend requests to folks is not likely to get you many positive results.

    Randoms are just that, random.

You will see the full gamut of ESO players, including

The rushahead yolo *** - it’s his dungeon and you’re just dust in his wake (although he’s first to go whinefest about your performance)

The fake tank rushahead yolo *** - can’t be arsed to queue, can’t be arsed to tank, where’s my XP and fuvm

But, more often than you’d imagine you get a group of random players who know what they’re doing, don’t act like ***, actually read chat and say hello, and it’s a good, fun experience. I’ve been in groups where someone has been desperate to finish a week old pledge and everyone’s gone back to kill a particular miniboss. I’ve seen groups wait patiently while someone they’ve only just met goes afk or crashes or listens to that monologue you get in the middle of DC2 before you can continue the quest.

I’ve met a bunch of really cool people in randoms, been invited to guilds, invited players to my guilds. Had a load of fun.

I think my main takeaway is that the bad PUGs, like the *** players are quickly forgotten, the good ones, like the good players last a lot longer.

LFG is random, its luck of the draw really sometimes you'll nuke a dungeon other times you end up having to take charge and show others. If you want to farm/rush or learn the dungeon maybe they should make a pre-made themselves.

This isn't necessarily a problem with veterans players being rude to non veteran players, it's a problem with how people interact with one another in general.

Here's the thing, I'm a veteran player that normally runs a tank. I have a premade group for the weekends, but I also run some PUGs during the week. I have no problem explaining mechanics, but I frequently run into 1) people that don't want to listen, 2) people running vet dungeons in pvp gear/setups (that doesn't work btw), and 3) people who don't want to take advice about builds and weave (dps players that have the mindset of "I play how I want"). I'm okay with those groups of people in normal dungeons; however, in vet dungeons, especially dlc, that stuff won't work.

Yes, you are right that there are elitist out there and I agree that they need to cool it. However, it's just as frustrating for vet players to run dungeons, try to help, and get shot down because people don't want to change/listen. So, I think you comment about courtesy has to extend to all player types. Don't be a jerk to new players, respect players wanting to do vet content and if you decided to run vet content, come in with the proper gear, skills, and be open to learning mechanics.

Or you could learn to play better

Or you could stop complaining. Either one works.
