I really hope it isnt Vampires. Or Dragons.

Whiterun is known as the Heart of Skyrim. A darkness sweeping over Whiterun in someway would be intriguing.

Or Blackreach, and do something completely different and interesting with Skyrim for a change.

Winterhold would have been the capital of Skyrim at the time of ESO.

I suspect it has something to do with mead. Anyone for mead? I like mead. I hear mead is nice this time of year. I don’t actually like mead.

So keep in mind while discussing this, it has to be a place with cities and towns, Blackreach just doesn't have that. We will likely see the falmer and all that. But it's unlikely to be the focus of the expansion.
Edit; I voted before I considered that.

I have two guesses: either there will be a Reach storyline which is set in the Reach and Haafingaar, or there’s a falmer storyline with Blackreach being a zone or preferably a massive public dungeon, and the forgotten vale being a dlc

I’d venture to say they are confirming more kirkbride lore and adding to tower theory, pretty sure Tuttle loves that stuff. I think somewhere every tower has a heart and Blackreach has been long rumored to be the heart of the snow tower. Love it. Glad to see when they expand on kirkbride’s stuff, mostly for the salty tears of those diehard canon enthusiasts that don’t understand what Anu’s dream exactly pertains to.

As a heads up, I was reading a lorebook in Southern Elsweyr yesterday that may have a very relevant clue:

    https://en.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:The_Favored_Daughter_of_Fadomai
Lorkhaj stood in the doorway. He was broken and bleeding, and there was a hole in his chest. But the Great Darkness was still in his blood, and it filled the hole where his heart had been. The dark mass beat like a heart, and black blood spilled out onto the threshold. Azurah heard each beat of the heart like the beating of a drum, and each drop of blood tapped to form a rhythm she felt in her tail.

But Fadomai had taught Azurah the names of all of the spirits, so she recognized the Great Darkness for what it was, and she roared in time with the song:

UR DRA NA MII RA UR DRA NA MII RA UR DRA AZU RA

And Azurah tore out the dark heart of Lorkhaj, and all of the darkness in him came with it, and she cast it beyond the sea.

From the Dark Heart of Lorkhaj was born the Moon Beast, the first of the dro-m'Athra, who lurks at the edge of the Lattice and knows nothing but hunger.

And with the darkness bled from him, Azurah could see her mother in Lorkhaj, and she held him until he died.

Ur-dra is Nocturnal but why Namira there? Anyways both can be troglodyte falmer deities and Gloomspore can refer to them and so to Blackreach.

No, let's keep Kirkbride's fever dreams out of the games.

There's a reason this crap never made it into official lore.

There was speculation about this on twitter as well, and as Ive said there, I think the title refers to Rigurt the Brash: he is brooding, because he doesn't get to travel to foreign lands this time and teach them about Nordic culture...

Hopefully The Reach. Especially interesting since The Despot of Markarth is known to be an ally of Mannimarco

That could be interesting we know Manimarco does escape from molag bal at some point

Lorkhaj is the name of god for khajiits. Same guy, lorkhan in aldmeri, shor in skyrim. And yes, the heart is in the red mountain. Doesnt mean it cant be part of the story.

I'm guessing it's going to be both, hopefully.

Blackreach is quite literally the "dark heart of Skyrim" and the leaked images absolutely correlate. I also think vampires do need some love after all this time, and the Volkihar are prime candidates.

Taking stealth away from the Bosmer is like taking magic away from the Altmer, making Nords allergic to mead, or making Orcs pretty.

In that lorebook, the “dark heart” dosen’t refer to Lorkhan’s original heart (aka, red mountain) but something else entirely. From the story, the “dark heart” was birthed from the hole where his heart once sat and is the origin of the first dro-m’athra called Moon Beast. If the writers want to connect the next chapter to the Elsweyr story, this would be a way to do it. What became of the Moon Beast? What became of this dark heart of Lorkhan?
